Labor Day Weekend 2019
Drove from NJ for a 3 night stay with 4 people. Spent Saturday on a float trip sunning and fishing on the river. Caught 15-20 small fish. Saw a Bald Eagle. Cooked Saturday night Filets on the gas Weber grill. Plenty of tools to cook with. Sunday did a hike on Skyline Drive. Sunday evening went out on the river in the supplied canoes. Beautiful view and sunset. No one else was on the river. Went in hot tub with sore muscles. Cooked wings and shrimp on the gas grill. Made a nice fire in the fire pit and made smores.
Pros: Very clean. Beds were comfy. Kitchen fully stocked. The Weber Grill did a great job. The central A/C worked good. Close to Skyline Drive and Shenandoah River. Some what private. Although there is no cell phone service the WiFi in the house was fast. Satellite TV was good. There were many supplied board games to play and movies to watch. Drive into Luray for shopping was 15 minutes. Great to have the option to use the canoes. They supplied fire wood for a fee, which is convenient, but we bought our own.
Cons: I'm really struggling here but, The walk to the river is about 100-150 yards. I guess I thought it was closer. A few jets in the hot tub didn't work but now I'm being really picky.
I would 100% return and hope to do so sooner than later. Yes I recommend you go.
Rich in NJ
Can’t wait to go again!!!!!!
Nice Shenandoah vacation
Excellent location. The River was amazing 85 degrees. Mountain scenery
Great Place to Stay!
The house was cute and well-kept, and very nice. Hot tub was very pleasant, river access was very convenient and pleasant, and it's pretty convenient to Luray. We were very happy with our stay.
A few things to note though. The king bed was very firm and made my back hurt a bit, but not badly enough that I wouldn't stay here again. The place is down a long dirt road with some decent hills and curves, so it's pretty slow going; I'm not sure I would try to get to it in the snow, for example, with my 2-wheel drive car. Finally, the neighbors are very close, which wasn't a problem most of the time we were there, but when we first got out of the car after arriving, the first thing we heard were the neighbors chatting on their front porch. We didn't hear them other than when we first arrived, so it wasn't a problem.
Great weekend getaway!
Bear Timbers is a wonderful cozy cabin! It is so comfortable and spotlessly clean. We loved cooking breakfast and dinner in the kitchen and relaxing by the wood stove. The master bedroom was very comfortable and having two bathrooms is really nice. We enjoyed the hot tub under the stars at night. Although there are neighboring houses, you don't really notice it because of the way the property is set up. We did not see another soul the whole time were there. It is less than 15 minutes away from Luray where you can visit Luray Caverns, a brewery, restaurants, and shops. The owners are very helpful if you have questions in advance or during your stay.
Note that there is no shampoo or soap at all so be sure to bring your own. Also, the property book indicates that there are DVDs and games but there are none. Just bring what you want to have and you will be set- the house is absolutely lovely. Also, you are supposed to take your trash when you leave to the nearby trash and recycling station, but it is closed on Sundays- it would have been helpful to know that in advance, as we had to drive home with it.
All and all though a great stay. I definitely want to come back to Bear Timbers as soon as possible!
Thanks so much for your feedback! I wanted to point out that there absolutely are DVDs and games- the DVDs are in a large binder underneath the coffee table, and the board games are in the closet by the kitchen. So sorry you weren't able to find them!
