City Double Room
Apex Grassmarket Hotel
Apex Grassmarket Hotel
Pool / Spa
We have previously stayed at the sister hotel the Apex City Hotel, both hotels are situated on Grassmarket, so ideal to explore Edinburgh on foot.
The hotel has the benefit of private parking at reasonable rates, upon arrival we couldn’t find a slop, however Reception staff responded quickly and found a parking slot, in addition they provided a card for the local NCP Car Park, great service. Checking was quick and efficient, and the requested upgrade to Castle View room obtained!
The hotel is looking tired in the general areas, with only one lift in operation, as one was in the process of being replaced, not an issue as we were on the first floor, the room was roomy and well furnished with an excellent bathroom, only two negatives would be the excessive heat generated from the in room fridge, and the noise levels from outside, Grassmarket is party central at weekends,
The food options available were of good quality and price, the service in the bar was on the main good, albeit with one or two language issues, if you ask for vinegar with fish and chips, you don’t expect a finger bowl to appear!
The only issue would be the length of breakfast service on Sunday morning, well over an hour and a half, with a waitress who constantly had to be reminded, that apart would stay again!
Noisy construction site. Gloomy no view
We were booked for 2 nights. I would have left earlier had I not paid upfront.
The hotel did not disclose that they had construction being undertaken as many hotels do on expedia. This is material to a guest when they are paying a lot of money for a room. If the room is discounted then fine, if not then its not fair.
The room didnt overlook the castle as per the photos on expedia. Instead it overlooked a carpark. The very same carpark that the tradespeople congregated in and crashed and banged in from about 7am each day.
The room is essentially IKEA chic. Plastic floors and kitset furniture housed in a converted 1960s office block. It has the feel of a budget hotel but without the budget price.
Given the many options we had we regretted our choice
I had a very happy memory in apex grass market hotel ,the hotel is excellent

No sleep for 2 nights.
Street noise was worst I've experienced in 40 years if travel. No sound insulation at all. Horrendous experience

Great location and nice room
This room was great and perfect for the location of the city. The staff was overall nice, just don't bring a water bottle into the restaurant, they don't like that. The bartender and front staff are nice and I enjoyed the sauna.

Nice central hotel
Hotel is nice , centrally placed and clean with a wonderful staff at reception.. Unfortunately, the entrance is not ideal since one is faced with a flight of stirs which caused difficulty to take up heavy luggage to reception. The rooms do not have double glazed windows and if one is in a room overlooking the car park, one is woken up at 6am with the rubbish truck and delivery vans doing their noisy job!
