About Deborah

While I was living in The Cottage (VRBO 384587) I noticed The Victorian three blocks away was in foreclosure. I love old houses! After seeing the monumental overhaul it needed, saying a few prayers, and talking to family and friends, I bought it...and was instantly overwhelmed!

First project: Put in a huge deck in back--the beautiful views kept me inspired during the long rehab. And now it's all finished and worth every bit of the TLC it required. Hopefully it blesses my guests as well!

Deborah purchased this house in 2007

Guestbook comments from the owner

Spectacular

  • 5 of 5

The Victorian was a perfect place for our three families to stay. There was more than enough space. We were in Petersburg to visit attractions so we spent little time at the house. Most of the time we were there, however, we enjoyed the deck and sunroom. The view of the Ohio River was lovely. Our sleeping quarters were quite comfortable. Deborah's Guesthouses sent us quite a bit of information via email, so we felt quite prepared upon our arrival.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this home. There is something about staying in a place that has "history". This home is beautifully kept, perfectly laid out, private, with the best back patio space overlooking the Ohio River. We had lots of kiddos with us on this trip and they had as much fun at "home" as they did visiting all the attractions through the week! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. It was a fantastic experience.

Old home renovated and perfect for a large group.

  • 4 of 5

Positives: There was plenty of space for our group of 6 adults and 9 kids. It was so much nicer than trying to hang out in a hotel. Being able to cook our own food saved money as well! The kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms were well supplied with what we needed. The house was very old, but updated. The kids felt like they were on an adventure because of the "old" feel. The view of the river was beautiful. We even saw an eagle. Though it was a tight squeeze, we managed to sit around the front room table to play games. The little town had some neat history. The floors, bedrooms, and kitchens were very clean. It had dual heating and air, so we were able to control the temperature well. The owner was very pleasant to work with :) We enjoyed our time there.

Negatives: The small town was peaceful, but very run down. It made us quite nervous at first. But once we were there two days, we felt comfortable walking down the street. There were a few cobwebs and dust in high places - mold in the caulking around the upstairs tub. As I said, it was a very old home, so when you first entered, it had an "antique house" smell, which we got used to. One sleeping area was tight, but cute. It was in a small area attached to one of the rooms and it had a washer and dryer in it also. The ceiling slanted with the roof and was very short. My younger sons loved it though.
