|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
A simple house, beautifully renovated & maintained. You can separate the two floors, and treat them like 2 apartments since they have their own private entrance, kitchen & bathroom. Upstairs a one bedroom apartment and Downstairs a large studio. Perfect for couples, small families, and small groups of friends wanting to holiday together but retain that sense of privacy. Both floors access the courtyard and roof terrace independently. You can dine al fresco, or simply watch the sunset over the harbour with an ouzo or lovely Greek wine. The house is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood on a cobblestone corner. All it takes to get to the port or the beach is a lazy 10 minutes.
Total cost for the whole house from 700 euros. Depending on time of year and number of persons staying

What's unique with this house, is both floors feel like 2 totally different spaces. Each with it's own charm and appeal.
The top floor is light, bright and airy. White ceilings, white walls, beautifully and simply decorated.
Downstairs is rustic and earthy with it's rock features, fireplace, thick walls, stone tiles... a feeling of time standing still.
Original artworks throughout the house from local artists.
You will be met at the port by my housekeeper. From here, they will show you the supermarket that does home delivery. You can order away, all the heavy stuff, like water, beer, wine, washing powder, canned foods, etc... and they'll be delivered the next day to you. This is a free service that the supermarket provides for shopping there.
Hydra is a very picturesque, aristocratic and cosmopolitan island of the Saronic Bay. As all the islands of the Argosaronic Bay, Hydra is an extremely popular destination for the Athenians, especially on the weekends. There are 2,500 inhabitants during winter and a lot of Greek and foreign visitors during summer. The town of Hydra – that is the sole town of the island – has been declared a landmark and car transport is prohibited. It is built within two rocky hills and is full of traditional houses with tile roofs, deep blue doors and windows. The mansions of Hydra are made of stone and usually due to the sloping ground they are 2 to 4-storeys. Most of them have external stairs that end up at a flat roof. Their rooms are big, high-ceilinged, with arches, embossed interior design, murals, garlands, geometric compositions at the marble floors, side frames and painted wooden ceilings.
The very town of Hydra is a large representative sample of the unique local architecture that combines island and mainland characteristics. Either the plain houses or the mansions have a special and impressive architecture that cannot be seen in other areas of Greece or abroad.
Hydra is connected by boat to the rest of the Argosaronic islands, Methana, Ermioni, Porto Heli, Nafplio, Astros, Tolo and Leonidio, all year long. From Piraeus Port, the trip lasts 1.5 hours with the flying dolphin.
We stayed at Kiaffa cottage 3 times in 2011, 2012 and 2014, always at springtime. If you don't mind walking steep stairs uphill, this is a fantastic place to enjoy Hydra, far from hordes of day-trippers but quite close to everything. The aperitif on the rooftop is a must. In Kiaffa Cottage you will find a homy feeling, don't expect luxury. Everything here is genuine and simple, just like Greek food :-) Pascal and her pals have always been very helpful, friendly and mindful. Despite the disappearance of a bunch of classic rock vinyls that were the perfect touch in such a lovely house (Where Have All the LPs Gone?), we love Kiaffa Cottage and we do recommend it. We will be back, no doubt! Silvia & Max.
We could not have wished for a more perfect place to stay during our visit to Hydra. First of all, Pascal is the most polite and friendly host one could hope for, not to mention thorough in advice and information about the island and the property. The house has a very zen feel about it with it's subtle whites and light greys - Van Gogh or Picasso would certainly have not looked out of place in the charming simplicity of Kiaffa cottage. As for Hydra...well, if you're a fan of buzzing mopeds and cars you're in the wrong place - it's just donkeys and a whole load of steps and winding lanes, magic! :-)
We had a brilliant holiday at Kiaffa Cottage, we cant recommend it highly enough!
To be able to return 'home' after a hard days reading on the beach and to be welcomed by a magnificent roof top sunset views (that never failed to deliver), it was the ultimate in relaxation therapy.
The cute winding stairways to the top just added to the intrigue, and every day we tried to find a different way up, and by doing that discovered loads of other interesting nooks and crannies, as well as other great views of the harbour.
The flat itself was exactly how it was described on the internet, very clean, romantic, and with plenty of homely, rustic bits and bobs, to helping to create a welcoming and homely feeling. Because of the steep staircases in the house itself, you have to be extremely careful with small children, I would imagine.
The beaches, although not pristine white sand beaches, were all nice in their own way, the water crystal clear and refreshing, and were all in closeish walking distance, easy to find. The walk over (or around) the hill to Vyclos (sp?) beach and back home while the sun is setting was superb. The further away beaches, Bisti, for example, were by far the nicest, although the price for a return ticket by boat (€12 p.p) is not the cheapest, (especially if you wanted to go every day!)
There are plenty of good restaurants and bars in Hydra and the surrounding Kamini and Vyclos areas, couldnt really fault any of the one we went to, and even an interesting live music venue, halfway along the walking track between the Hydra and Kamini ports.
Wed love to come back, when the island is greener, in spring, and do some of the longer walking tracks, which also sound fantastic.
We can't wait!
Hydra is the island, the rock, and Kiaffa Cottage is the house to live in...From the roof terrasse you can look over to the Peleponnes, you can "go into" the sunset, you can take a walk to the top of the Island, to the profet Elias monestery. You can take a walk on all the steps...And you can walk to the beach if you are in a need of a swim. The neightbourhood gives you a warm welcome. We had a wonderful 2 weeks stay in May month 2011. Kiaffa Cottage gives you the greek feeling of coming home, a warm and including feeling, the house has good rooms for your staying, in the courtyard you can enjoy your breakfast, or just a cold Mythos at the roof terasse. From Anna and Anna. May month 2011.
Having stayed in many Greek villas over the years, this one definately has the most character! I soon got used to the clip-clopping of the mules going past the window every morning, which just heightened our sense of the romantic! All facilities worked perfectly and the sun terrace comes into its own in the morning for a yoga session, although it has the sun all day.
I will certainly be back!
Stayed in this delightful cottage in June 2009, before the renovations took place! We loved it then and it's probably even nicer now it's been upgraded! Great location (eventhough walk home after a long night was a bit taxing!) but a good little 'supermarket' down the road and a short amble to Leonard Cohen's house (a bonus for me!) The cottage was well equipped with all one would need for a holiday let, no shortage of kitchen implements, great little dvd player and even a selection of books to read on those lazy days!
This really is an authentic Greek cottage not too far from beach or port and i will be back to stay again very soon!
The house is located on a quiet cobblestone corner, above Hydra Town. A lazy 10 minutes walk to Kamini beach. It takes around 5 minutes to get to the port of Hydra, and a leisurely 10 minutes walk back. I'm at the crossroads of Kamini Beach and Hydra Port. Very close to 'Four Corner' supermarket. Being at the crossroads means you can walk upwards thru the pinetrees and mountains to the monasteries. Or walk to Vlychos, a beautiful little village via the mountain side.Once there, you're rewarded with some lovely tavernas and beaches to enjoy.
