About the property

Sleeps 7 (plus 1) In the main house and guest house with two master bedrooms

Amazing views, fresh modern interiors, peaceful natural surroundings and a huge deck with swimming pool and hot tub define this Sonoma wine country retreat near Glen Ellen. It is an extraordinarily uplifting property at any time of year, only 15-20 minutes' drive from the wineries, restaurants and farmers' markets of historic Sonoma and Glen Ellen.

Cavedale Ridge is a 10-acre hillside estate facing west, with spectacular views across the vineyards and orchards of the Valley of the Moon to the Sonoma Mountain range, Mount Tamalpais and, in the far distance, the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge. The house is surrounded by olive and bay trees and fragrant Mediterranean herbs such as lavender, rosemary, and manzanita. In spring, there are blossoming crab apple trees.

A unique and outstanding feature of Cavedale Ridge is a vast deck running off the Main House living area for swimming, lounging, outdoor cooking and dining, and star gazing. The deck and the house were recently featured in Men's Journal in an article of Luxury Villas you can rent today - http://www.mensjournal.com/travel/collections/12-insanely-luxurious-villas-you-can-rent-today-w442808/cavedale-ridge-w446677

To reach Cavedale Ridge, it is a 10-minute drive from the main highway up a windy and narrow road (so we discourage nervous drivers). For everyone seeking a quiet and comfortable escape near Sonoma and San Francisco, this is a very special wine country retreat.

The Main House and Guest House (always rented together) are distinguished by pristine, light-filled interiors with white walls, contemporary furniture and vibrant accent colors. There are three master suites, with two enjoying panoramic views of the Valley, and the third a garden view.

Main House

Walk through the front door, and you enter an airy open plan space with hallway, living room, dining area for 10, and large kitchen. The bright comfortable interior has vast picture windows with magnificent views, making it a special place to relax in any season. A custom kitchen is designed for the gourmet cook. It has a large island with gas cooktop, extensive work surfaces and a breakfast bar. There are Bosch appliances throughout, and thoughtful extras such as a Kitchen Aid and gelato maker.

Two sets of sliding folding glass doors open from the dining area onto the newly-built extensive deck, creating a seamless transition from indoors to outdoors: a huge indoor/outdoor living space with swimming pool (heated in high season) hot tub (available all year), sun loungers, fire pit, and propane BBQ with food preparation surfaces. This is where lazy summer days are spent, lounging on the deck, cooking local produce together, watching breath-taking sunsets, and sitting around the firepit after dark, gazing at the stars.

In spring and fall, the folding doors create a semi indoor/outdoor area where you can comfortably enjoy the fresh air, stay sheltered, and be near the BBQ and the hot tub.

Upstairs in the Main House is a Master Bedroom with views across the valley, a king bed, and an ensuite bathroom with more views from its super-size bathtub and a shower. Next door is a small bedroom that can accommodate two guests: one on the twin bed and one on a roll out twin bed. This arrangement works especially well for a family with young children, who can be close to their parents next door.

The Guest Bedroom in the Main House is on the same floor as the living area. It can be made up as either a king bed or two twins. Two further guests can sleep on a double sofa bed. It has a garden view, and a bathroom next door with a bathtub with shower over. This bathroom also serves the living area. In the basement, there is a washing machine and dryer for guest use.

The Main House enjoys under-floor heating throughout, with air-conditioning in the Master Bedroom. There are three TVs with DirectTV and one DVD in the Main House.

Guest House

The private Guest House is on a lower level, below the main deck, and is reached from the deck by a spiral staircase, or directly from the front of the property. It is a superb design-led space with the same magnificient views as the main house. The bedroom and living area are open plan, separated by a floating wall with a sleek see-through gas fire. Enjoy the fire from the king-size bed or a love seat and chaise in the living area. The ensuite bathroom has a walk-in shower and separate wc. Off the living room is a wet bar with all you need (full-size refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, coffee machine and toaster oven) to prepare breakfast, a salad lunch, or serve drinks.

Sliding doors open onto a spacious covered wooden porch - somewhere shady for hot days, a quiet place to read away from all the poolside activity, or another spot for watching the evening sunset over cocktails. The porch also has a folding Ping Pong table for those more actively inclined. The Guest House has air-conditioning and heating and one TV with DirectTV.

Cousin's getaway

  • 5 of 5

We go to Napa every year to have a cousin's getaway. The house was beautiful, the pictures did not do it justice, my only comment would be the drive up to the home. While the owners did make us aware of the winding roads you really can't imagine it until you actually are driving it yourself. But even with the drive the house was well worth the drive! Thank you again Norman for sharing your home with us!

This home is absolutely amazing. The view of the valley is something special. The home has a modern feel with all of the amenities to make your stay the best it could be. The guest house is a great complement to the rest of the property.

Stunning views of the valley

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house with gorgeous views! Norman, the owner, and Victoria, the property manager were very attentive. They provided perfect directions to the home, and information about the area prior to our arrival. Don't miss the sunset views on the patio where the pool, hottub, and fireplace are!

Best weekend ever!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I recently stayed at Cavedale. The property exceeded my expectations. Every room had a magnificent view and we loved cooking in that beautiful kitchen. My friends were blown away and could not believe we scored such a beautiful place.

The owner and the property manager Victoria were wonderful to work with. We hired a masseuse to come to the house for Sunday morning massages. You will not be disappointed if you rent this property.

Bill from Dallas

  • 5 of 5

Great place!! Pictures don't really show how great the view is from almost every room and the outside deck as well as the great sunsets. We rent a lot of houses and this one was the most well stocked with everything you need. We left in the am, visited wineries ( all within a 30 minute drive) in Sonoma and Glen Ellen had lunch and ended up back at the house for hot tub and sunset. The perfect day in the wine country! Will definitely come back.

Great for Girls weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful time at Calvedale, from start to finish. The owner and the property manager Victoria were wonderful to work with. Victoria even offered to do shopping for us and stock up the house before we got there (which was very helpful since you wouldn't want to go back down the long windy road after you get there). The hot tub and pool were wonderful, and the pictures don't even do the view justice. We took advantage of the outdoor area by hiring a chef and eating an alfresco lunch. The guest house is beautiful! We went for my sister's bachelorette weekend and it's a perfect place for relaxing and doing some wine tasting.
