About Chris Steffens
We are both middle and high school science teachers who enjoy teaching in the US and abroad. Lisa is from California and Chris grew up in Maine. Although we have taught abroad for many years, we always find time in our year to come spend a relaxing week or two at our home in Jonesport. We hope you will too.
Why Chris Steffens chose Jonesport
Jonesport is a lovely town, fun to explore, with the freshest lobsters and easy bike rides to hiking. This house in located in-town, but on the end of a quiet dead-end road, right on the ocean. The house is cozy and warm and a wonderful place to just get away from it all. We hope you'll love it as much as we do.
What makes this House unique
Jonesport is a hidden gem and a "get away from it all" vacation. Enjoy the ocean and Maine as it was meant to be. Book the week at the end of June or first week in July and watch the quaintest in-town 4th of July parade you've ever seen and watch the lobster boat races from the front lawn. (Check with us to verify the actually 4th of July celebrations as they vary from year to year.)
Cancelled bookings will not receive a refund.
Ocean front hideaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Chris was super helpful. The information provided was so helpful. The beds were comfy and we loved every minute of our stay.
Just what we needed. We don't like a lot of crowds or places that
We loved this quaint, quiet place by the sea that wasn't overloaded with tourists and tourist trappings. My parents have a waterfront home on Lake Michigan so I'm very comfortable being on the water in a quiet spot. So much fun at this spot because being Michiganders we don't have lobster/fishing boats, so we loved watching the boats going in and out. The people were down to earth and friendly. We went to Lubec (one hour), the farthest east point in the US, for whale watching. We went to Beals Island (1 mile accross the harbor) for hiking (it's brutal if you are over 50 and not used to deep woods hiking, but we did it.... Yeah us!!!). We went to Bar Harbor ( two hours away) nice spot with lots of restaurants, hiking, and shops but way too many tourists in August. We had dinner at the Blue Bird Ranch family restaurant in Machias. They have food which was completely surprising when looking at their restaurant front. I had a lobster alfredo which I think had an entire lobster on it, my husband had my leftovers for his entire dinner the next night and was full. I also had a blueberry martini, which was absolutely "over the moon" amazing. We went to "Wild Blueberry Land" and bought some really cool blueberry stuff including Maine blueberry soda and a 5 pound box of fresh blueberries to take home for making fresh blueberry pies. We walked the town on three different occasions finding some amazing houses and properties. Our favorite was a house the we dubbed the "Bates Motel" of Jonesport. A total diamond in the rough with an amazing view of the bay but abandoned nd really spooky too. The owner of our cottage, Chris was no more than a couple of hours away any time I contacted him (and he lives in California). Turns out his parents live down the road in Jonesport. They came and visited us on our way out. Wish we would have met them earlier, they were very sweet. If you are looking for a really quaint, quiet, affordable place with everything you could possible need, please rent this place. You won't be disappointed.
The property was clean and had everything we could have needed for the week. It was fun seeing the lobster boats come and go, and Chris and Lisa left a lot of great tips for things to see and do in the area.
Location is also great for day trips along the coast of Maine.
Little Cottage on the bay
Wonderful cottage, more than I had expected. Jonesport is a small fishing village with a very rural life, wonderful place to go to unwind and relax. Watching the lobster boats come an go became the favorite pastime.
Great stay in a clean, comfortable house
This was a 2 story, 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath house. The furniture was comfortable, the kitchen had everything that you need and unlike many places, it had cabinets full of spices, pasta, coffee, canned goods and WAY beyond the basics. It was spotless, extremely well organized and everything had a place. Even the basement with the washer and dryer was spotless. We loved sitting outside on the edge of the water overlooking a working lobster harbor. This is the real Maine, not a resort or tourist town. While the area lacked the tourist restaurants and shops, it also lacked the tourists. Two things important to us are Wi-Fi and cable TV and they were perfect. Finally, the owner was great. He was easy to contact, great to talk to and had loads of information without being overbearing. He has a list for everything from things to do, to restaurants, grocery stores and anything else that we needed. If you want a place to decompress, I highly recommend this place.
Enjoyed the house and its location so much the first time we stayed there, we went back for a second
'Twas a good Maine summer vacation house with a nice view of the water
Our cottage is only a short distance from great hiking in the forest and along the Maine coast. Explore Jonesport by bike or on foot. Easy drives to Bar Harbor, Eastport, and New Brunswick. Golf is nearby, as is the University of Maine Machias which has a public library and fitness center. Whale watching, kayaking, and puffin tours can be arranged.
