About Judith Bergsma
We have a wonderful, extended family who loves the waters of Lake Michigan, sweet, summer breezes, biking, sailing, swimming, and making delicious meals. There is a large family cottage purchased in the 50s also located in Macatawa where my 90 year old parents welcomed their daughters, son-in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with their friends throughout the summer. The Pilot House is a leisurely walk or bike ride away from the family cottage and a welcome retreat, but also close enough to help manage the family cottage. (photo: niece, grandniece, and daughter).

My sister and I had a wonderful time. This is such a cozy scenic location. We would definitely return....we decided we wanted to live there.
Beautifully maintained and equipped apartment with an amazing view of Lake Macatawa and the channel.
My husband and I spent 3 nights in the upper floor 2-bedroom apartment. The apartment is furnished with care to every detail from the comfortable beds to the kitchen which is the best equipped of any rental. The views from the upper floor porch and the bedrooms are lovely and we especially enjoyed watching the fishermen and the boats go in and out of the lake. We loved the short walk out to Big Red Lighthouse and spent an evening watching a spectacular sunset. The property is conveniently located near Holland and Saugatuck which we enjoyed exploring.
Great place to stay!
Our family really enjoyed staying in the Pilot house! We had a great week and would recommend staying here to anyone.
Totally enjoyed our stay. Place is extremely well equipped and organized. We spent several hours in the evenings out on the porch watching the parade of boats passing by. Nice....
The Pilot House is the perfect home for enjoying Holland, Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan.
Highly recommend this property for a summer getaway. The location is ideal. Judith, the owner, is wonderful to work with. While we enjoyed the local restaurants, the Pilot House has everything you would need if you wanted to cook your own meals. Our favorite thing about this place is the deck where you can watch the boats coming and going between Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan. Holland has a lot to offer. Great restaurants and shops. Conveniently located between Saugatuck and Grand Haven. Great boating destinations. We also found a fun 9 hole golf course nearby. The area is very bike friendly. Definitely hope to return.
Perfect retreat from the world
Judith is a warm, welcoming host! The Pilot House was perfect for my daughter and me to get away for quiet time. We could have cheerfully never left the apartment. Judith has it stocked with everything a person needs to cook. We loved sitting on the balcony, reading and watching the boats go by. It was wonderful having access to a private beach a little further down the way. We sat our chairs on the edge of the water and soaked up the sun, wind, and waves. Our vacation was perfect, and we’ll definitely go back!
Impressive, historic cottages line the sidewalks of this private beach community. Enjoy the vast, beautiful sandy Lake Michigan beaches, fish off the pier, play beach volley ball, swim and soak up the sun. You could lollygag on the beach all day, but there are plenty of other activities to relish. Bike the extensive network of prime bike trails between Macatawa, Holland, and Saugatuck. Stroll through the bustling Holland Farmers Market Wednesdays and Saturdays, and watch street performers and delight in New Holland's hand-crafted beers and meal offerings in downtown on Thursdays. Go antiquing or shopping in countless independent stores and galleries in Holland and Saugatuck. Rent a kayak, paddle board,a jet ski, power boat, or charter a fishing boat or sailboat cruise. Take a classic dune ride near Saugatuck. Play golf (numerous local golf courses), tennis (private club in Macatawa), or go berry picking on blueberry or strawberry farms. Hope College and Saugatuck offer excellent summer theater. Sunsets are beautiful on the lake and you might find your best evenings end in saluting the sun and sipping a cool beverage from your 2nd story porch overlooking this local scene.
