About Susan Worth
Our family is originally from New England but have lived for many years in the NYC area with a family home in Eastern PA. My husband works for an international consulting company and I run our ranch in Nosara. As a family we have spend a lot of time traveling in Central and South America but we always happy to come back to Nosara.
Susan Worth purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Susan Worth chose Nosara
Our love affair with Nosara began 25 years ago and our two twenty-something daughters consider Nosara their second home. We bought the Rancho Rio Montana property in the 1990's committed to maintaining the property as a vibrant working cattle ranch which supports several local families. In 2004 we finally decided it was time to build and we finished our home in 2008. We have hosted many wonderful gatherings of family and friends over the past eight years.
What makes this Villa unique
Our house was built by us as a labor of love: from the 'eco friendly' features to the custom wood work built entirely with wood harvested on the Ranch. The tranquility and privacy of the Ranch location is unique and what we love the most. When asked, our family and virtually all of our guests will tell you that the horseback riding on the Ranch with the cowboys is there very favorite activity. As wonderful as it is to hang out at the beach there is something special about leaving all the heat and dust behind and heading up to the Ranch at the end of the day to enjoy the cooling breezes and spectacular sunsets.

Heaven within reach
Rancho Rio Montana is hard to describe using the usual traveler terms. In part that’s because it isn’t just the sum of its beautiful view of the Pacific, it’s spacious open design, the amazingly wonderful infinity pool that lies right outside the bedrooms, the friendliness of its staff, or the pleasure of watching a family of monkeys spend the afternoon lazing about in the trees across the road. It is more about the feeling of being part of a world that takes you away from whatever cares you arrive with and lets you relax and enjoy life as it should be - warm, friendly, delicious and comfortable. The one thing you should know is to take seriously the advice of the owners to get a 4WD vehicle. The roads are rustic, and easily driven on if you have the right car, which only helps to slow down the pace of life and ease you into your Costa Rican lifestyle.
What a magical, beautiful house! All of the rooms of the house are open (but can be private by closing the shutters) and are surrounded by well-tended gardens. The views of the mountains on one side of the house, and the jungle and ocean on the other side, are breath-taking. Every room and the large infinity pool is beautiful and clean, and the staff members who work there are all very friendly and helpful. The kitchen is well stocked, and there are games, yoga mats, boogie boards, etc in the house for guest use. We even spotted some monkeys in the trees right outside one morning when we were up early! I wish we could have stayed longer!
Perfect Vacation Spot
This is a great place for a family vacation. It is a bit of paradise to be shared with the ones you love. The house is open to nature - no glass windows. They're not necessary. The doors and shutters, where needed, are carved out of beautiful locally sourced lumber. There are enough spaces for group activities or to quietly cuddle up with a good book. We were greeted every morning, before our dip in the fabulous infinity pool, by howler monkeys in the trees around the house. The beaches are all spectacular, as described in the literature provided by the owner. Great restaurants, too. Rene, the caretaker, is a wonderful and very knowledgeable host. Maritza and Hugo, the caretakers, are lovely people. I really enjoyed speaking Spanish with them. There's much more to say, but I suggest you find a way to plan a trip to this heaven on earth and experience it's wonder yourself.
Our visit to Rancho Rio Montana was in a word - fabulous. On a hilltop, overlooking the Pacific Ocean as we were lounging in the infinity pool as the sun started to set over the horizon, the constant breezes keeping us comfortable during the bright sunny, warm days and during the moonlit, starfilled evenings, one could only think he or she had arrived at some magical, truly special spot and they would be correct.
The hacienda is wonderfully designed - spacious, open and beautiful. No glass but all rooms have shutters that can be opened wide to allow the breezes to blow through and all for spectacular views in all directions A very private location on the 1300 acre ranch - a perfect spot for a family or small group.
There is plenty to do..very well trained and cared for horses are at your disposal for riding the hills and trails behind the hacienda with knowledgable and delightful guides. Beaches are large, unspoiled, uncrowded expanses of sand with rolling waves and areas that are hotspots for surfers. Ziplining is nearby and numerous yoga or spa opportunities are in nearby Nosara. Local restaurants serve up delicious local fare espcially the fresh fish and the local fruits and vegetables are wonderful.
The ranch manager is Rene who is friendly, knowledgable, helpful, multi-lingual and works hard to make sure every visit is perfect.
While a fit of a drive from the airport in Liberia, Rancho Rio Montana is worth every minute it takes to get there. Picturesque, relaxing, comfortable, delightful -our five days there were a truly memorable time.
Views are spectacular, the accommodations are beautiful and very comfortable. Spacious living and dining areas. The pool is refreshing with Pacific views. The manager, Rene, is very gracious and always helpful.
Your Private Resort
I am so excited to be returning to Rancho Ria Montana. I was there previously with friends and on this trip my husband is joining me with another couple. The hacienda is spectacular and accurately pictured in the photos. The view and constant breeze is heavenly. The ranch manager can answer any question about the region and make your stay care free. There is much to do in the Nosara area-yoga, fishing, surfing, zip-lining, good restaurants and shopping. Then there is nothing you have to do. Grab a book, a glass of wine and relax by the infinity pool. You can wonder about town, meet the people, absorb the culture then return to the ranch where you can ride the property on horseback and view a living fence and hundreds of cattle and howler monkeys. While this feels like a resort with its beauty and amenities, the ranch is the real deal. This is not Disneyland. That is just one of the things that makes this spot so special.
If you are looking for the hidden gem of Costa Rica, Nosara/Ostional has it all. World class surfing at Guiones and Ostional beaches, world class yoga at Nosara Yoga Institute, Costa Rica's best Zip Line Tour, deep sea fishing, stand-up paddling, kayaking, hiking, birding, horseback riding, mountain biking, ATV tours and Pilates are all available in this laid back surfer village.
If relaxation is more your thing then look no further than the many day spas and retreat spas found in and around Nosara.
If your passion is food and drinks (whos isn't?) then you will find plenty of excellent options in town ranging from seafood to Italian to Thai to Mediterranean to French to classic American with bars to suit all lifestyles and ages.
If privacy is what you crave then look no further then the pool deck of our home. Relax in the spectacular infinity pool or request horses delivered to your doorstep for a guided horseback tour of our Ranch with your very own cowboy guide. Catch a perfect sunset over the Pacific surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens.
