Comments from previous guests:
** Sourdough Cabin was perfect for us as we were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniv and the cabin surpassed all of our expectations! The cabin was a true log cabin and decorated beautifully! The bed was soooooooooo comfortable and the grounds were gorgeous! We picked raspberries off of our deck! Our hosts provided our Gold panning gear and we had a Blast at Pedro Mine site. We enjoyed the Howling Dog Saloon, Silver Gulch Brewery, Chena Pump House Restaurant and Chatanika Lodge for dining and music. The North Pole and Tanana Valley Farmers Market are great stops too for Alaskan souveniers and foods. We LOVED Fairbanks and hope to return again soon! God Bless!
**We spent 10 days in the Riverbend cabins (December 2011 - January 2012). And in one word I can say that everything was PERFECT. 1. Location: 20 min. driving to the University and the downtown in Fairbanks. 12 min. to the supermarket in Fairbanks or in North Pole. 50 min to Chena Hot springs. 2. The place really beautiful. Everything snowy and so quiet. I suppose in summer it is also very beautiful. 3. The cabin (Sourdough) so cozy!! 100% clean. Warm. Perfect for a couple. 4. The owners - wonderful people. 5. Of course we will stay there again and again! I think we were really fortunate to find this cabins!
In addition to our Sourdough cabin, Riverbend offers the Chinook cabin. The Chinook features 2 upstairs bedrooms, a downstairs full bath with shower and Jacuzzi tub and a half bath upstairs. The cabin comfortably sleeps 4 guests. For more information on the Chinook cabin, please see VRBO listing #118558.

Debi Hanson purchased this cabin in 2002
We both had a lifelong dream of building a log home. When we found this property, we 'just knew' it was the perfect land to start the process of fulfilling our dream. The combination of the serene riverfront location, the surrounding boreal forest, wildlife, wild berries and flowers gives the feeling of being in a sacred, special place. We made the decision in 2006 to build additional cabins so that we could share our dream with others. We thoroughly enjoy the wide variety of guests that stay in the cabins. We love sharing information and stories about our Alaskan lifestyle and hearing about the lives and travels of our guests.
Quiet, peaceful riverfront setting, centrally located between Fairbanks and North Pole, Alaska. The rustic elegance of the cabin, comfortable furnishings and beautiful artwork is enhanced by the gorgeous river view and surrounding boreal forest, creating a perfect place to rest and relax on your holiday or vacation. Riverbend's Sourdough cabin provides an excellent location to view and photograph the Northern Lights. (Note: Our property with the Northern Lights in the background is featured on the front page of the 2012 Fairbanks Vistior's Guide). Opportunities to view and photograph a variety of wildlife (moose, waterfoul, beaver & eagles). Fishing in front of the cabins, nearby hiking trails and centrally located to Interior Alaska's activities and attractions.
Staying here was by far the highlight of our honeymoon trip in Alaska. Everything was perfect! The cabin was extremely clean, cozy and welcoming! Bruce and Debi were amazing hosts. (We loved their dog Molly too!) I cannot imagine finding a better place in Fairbanks. If planning a trip to Alaska - I highly recommend spending some time in Fairbanks and staying here! You will not be sorry! We travel often and this is the first time I have been motivated to give a review. Awesome place. Lots to do in the area. We enjoyed the Northern Lights from the upper deck of the cabin. We will be back!
What a super place to stay. We spent five weeks this September (2016) travelling around Alaska and the Yukon by car. We had a three night stay with Debi and Bruce in their Sourdough Cabin, it was just perfect. The welcome we received was exceptional and from the very start of making our booking Debi could not have been more helpful. I just did not want to leave! The cabins are both in true Alaskan Log Cabin style and really are the "real deal". Sourdough for two people was so cosy and all the little personal touches made you feel completely at home. We arrived to fresh flowers, fresh home grown tomatoes, home baked loaf and even a birthday card for my Husband, as I had mentioned it would be his birthday during our stay. So much appreciated by us both. This venue is top of our list of all the places we stayed during our trip . The location is within a short drive to North Pole where you can meet Santa if you want and pick up supplies from a very good local supermarket. Another short drive to Fairbanks with all the different things to do which a larger town offers, including and excellent Vintage Car Museum. There is fishing on the Cheena River and Gold Prospecting and also of course a drive out to the Cheena Hot Springs. In the winter of course there will be all the winter activities and how I would love to be there in the snow and experience a winter wonderland with the northern lights dancing above and warm and cosy little hideaway to curl up in. . We will definitely return and cannot recommend Riverbend enough. It was everything we hoped for, Debi and Bruce could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Thank you so much, you're the best!
Debi and Bruce Hansen are the perfect hosts of this beautiful log cabin retreat about 20-25 minutes east of Fairbanks city center. The photos online are beautiful, but even they don't do it justice. My husband and I stayed there when a foot of snow covered the ground and truly made the place a majestic winter wonderland. Debi greeted us with amazing home-baked blueberry banana nut bread and a perfect log cabin straight out of a magazine. She and Bruce are so warm and welcoming and always made sure our needs were taken care of. We went on Bruce's 2 hour snow mobile tour down the frozen Chena River and through the snow-covered woods. It was one of the most fun activities of entire week in Alaska! The location of Riverbend is excellent for northern lights viewing - we saw the lights three nights in a row by the fire pit! We roasted marshmallows and hot dogs and listened to music as we looked up to see the green beauties dancing across the night sky. We even saw a moose one night! He was quite friendly and didn't pay any attention to us. Riverbend is in a great location close to convenience stores, restaurants, and only 15-20 minutes from North Pole, AK (a must-do for any winter Alaska/Fairbanks traveler). We stayed in the Sourdough cabin which is perfect for 2 people, the most romantic getaway my husband and I have ever experienced. Thank you Debi and Bruce and come see us in Austin sometime!
The Sourdough was just what we were looking for - we did quite a bit of research before settling on Riverbend - weren't disappointed. Beautiful and comfortable. Outfitted with everything we needed. Debi provided us with a wonderful banaba/blueberry bread that we had for breakfast all week. The cabin was warm and a perfect place to venture into the beauty of Alaska during the day, and with the frozen Chena river a perfect place to see the northern lights at night. We watched them one night from the comfort of our bedroom! Bruce and Debi kept us informed of the good times to see them - and even started a fire in the firepit for us on the last night when the Aurora was very active - in fact they called us as we were packing to let us know as it was so early! The Chinook is bigger with a roomier kitchen and bath, but for us the Sourdough was perfect. Kitchen is well stocked. We didn't avail ourselves of the sauna, but there are robes if you dare! We liked the convenience of cooking our own meals. A wonderful coffee is provided. Not much more than 30 minutes from the airport and far enough out that there is no light pollution. Thank you for a perfect vacation - absolutely wonderful! We'd love to return and highly recommend it - went primarily to see the Northern Lights and were not disappointed - Good food and drink is no more than 15 minutes away and Chena Hot Springs Resort is less than 60 miles away. Far enough from the city to be wonderfully alone yet no more than 20 minutes from city center.
This place was wonderful!! A true Alaska log cabin with all the comforts of home!! Even DISH TV!!!! Debi and Bruce did everything to make our stay a great one. Fairbanks was awesome. Ate at Silver Gulch and Big Daddy's BBQ, great! Riverbend Cabins, Highly recommended
Had a great time staying at the Sour Dough Cabin. Everything was perfect and very comfortable. Saw the northern lights and all the recommendations from Debi and Bruce were spot on. It was a very authentic Alaskan adventure with great host. Thank you so much! Will definitely stay here again!
Thank you very much for everything while we stayed at your Cabin.
aurora and your kindness....everything was wonderful and we were very
We will return to your Cabin again.
Located on the banks of the Chena River with abundant wildlife (moose, beaver, eagles & waterfowl), the Sourdough Cabin has the best of what Interior Alaska has to offer. The cabin is situated on 3 ½ secluded, peaceful acres and sits next to Riverbend’s two bedroom Chinook cabin (see VRBO #118558). The option of renting both cabins is available for larger groups. The owner who lives on the property is happy to answer guest’s questions and help with planning your activities. During the long summer days, guests can enjoy an outdoor cookout, hike the nearby trails, pick wild blueberries and raspberries, fish for Arctic Grayling or seasonal King Salmon, go boating on the river or nearby lakes or relax on the cabin’s deck or riverbank. Summer guests enjoy nearby gold panning (we provide panning tools for the more adventurous) at public sites or Gold Dredge #8, a paddle boat ride on the Riverboat Discovery, visiting our local museums (Alaska Museum of North is a favorite), floating the Chena River or taking a drive to Denali National Park. For guests who like to fish, we do provide basic fishing gear. Our winter guests enjoy our magnificent displays of the Aurora Borealis, the wood fired outdoor sauna, dog mushing, soaking in the waters of Chena Hot Springs Resort, ice fishing and downhill and cross-country skiing. Sitting around our campfire and watching the northern lights is by far the favorite activity of our winter guests!
