The Millpond estate where the Cottage is located was the site of a mill in the 1800s. The Longhouse Creek flows under a rustic footbridge, into the millpond, and over the falls. In the 1940s, the property was owned by MGM Studios, and was a summer retreat for Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, and other celebrities. Bellvale Market within walking distance offers deli items, fresh fish, meats, and a wide range of prepared foods. Visit the nearby Bellvale Farms Creamery for Zagat-rated homemade ice cream! The village of Warwick is quaint and fun, with lots of shops and restaurants.
Nearby Wawayanda State Park has a sandy beachfront, large lake with boat and canoe rentals, and miles of hiking/mountain biking trails. Seven miles from Warwick is Greenwood Lake (the largest lake in Orange County), six miles to Sugarloaf Arts and Crafts Village, 15 minutes to Sterling Forest (New York Renaissance Festival, Spartan Race), 15 minutes to Vernon, NJ, (Mountain Creek Water Park and Ski Mountain as well as Crystal Springs and Minerals Spa), 20 minutes to Woodbury Commons Shopping Outlets in Harriman, NY, Skiing at Mount Peter is just around the corner and offers free lessons for kids.
