There is an alternate ferry service from 2km down river which runs all year.
There are excellent golf courses within 5 to 10 minutes drive from the accommodation. The closest are Benamor, Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima, Monte Rei.
A car is not at all essential. Tavira offers plenty of local entertainment and places of interest.
Car rental, taxi transfers and bicycle hire can be organized with local reputable firms in advance or by calling the local representative. The accommodation is suitable for children, taking in account that there are two flights of stairs.
There is a cot and high chair provided. Please let us know if you have any other requirements.
This is a centrally located townhouse with close proximity to neighbours, restaurants, late-licenced bars and shops. Tavira skyline is like a patchwork of close knit terraces and rooftops, which can be overlooked… adding to the character and experience of town life!
Casa Joaquim is easily accessible by bus, train and by car. The entrance has a traditional ‘porta da reixa’ gridded door leading from the street.
This is a mostly residential area though there are some cafés and late-licenced bars on the street to the back of the house.
Ashtrays are provided for smoking outside the property.
Due to the possibility of guests being allergic to animal hair, we would rather not allow pets.

Wij zijn tevreden over het huis dat wij hadden uitgekozen in Tavira; alles was naar wens. Hartelijke groet;
The house is well situated for restaurants and bars, there is one drawback and that is the roof seemed to be festooned with the local wild birds this could be a little irritating at times at early morning feed. The living room furniture was covered with throw overs to hide wear and tear, there was no CD player as mentioned in the description of the house. The patio area was very nice although a little restricted by the sail cloth on the top if you wished to catch a little sun. However altogether a great base and we would visit again.
We were a party of 3 middle aged couples and we spent 12 nights at Earl's House in Tavira, at the end of September, 2015!! This place was amazing and exceeded our collective expectations! First of all, it was very clean and inviting, with its blend of authentic Portuguese charm and modern updates. Secondly, it was a very large living space, accommodating 3 couples for a fairly lengthy time! The apartment is laid out over 2 floors, with 3 large, attractive bedrooms(decorated with Portuguese tile works) that had comfortable beds and large windows, 2 large bathrooms that had great water pressure and quick action water heaters, a very well equipped kitchen that opens onto a beautiful outdoor terrace, which was another wonderful 'living room', where we were able to eat all of our meals al fresco and a very comfortable living room, on the first floor!! The apartment is in a PERFECT location to everything that is amazing about Tavira.....the River Gilao, the garden square, Bishop Square, quaint shops, sidewalk restaurants and bars!! As well, it is about 2 blocks to the grocery store! Tavira is Paradise and Earl's House was the perfect place to call 'home', while we were there!
Set within the very heart of Tavira, this delightful two storey house provides comfort for spending time 'at home' while being just steps away from the rhythm of town life...This is a mostly residential area though there are some cafés and bars on the street to the back of the house and in the near vicinity.
Enjoy the bustle and outdoor entertainment of summer months or the quiet serenity of Tavira out of season...Earls House is available all year round.
Summer months offer a host of choice in street theatre, live music, exhibitions and concerts plus two outdoor cinema festivals showing a selection of European and American films. After the heat of the day, the cool and scented, vibrant atmosphere of the summer nights are enjoyed by many families until the early hours of morning...
Tavira Island beach can be reached by ferry boat from just across the river, a 4 minute walk away. You will discover wonderful golden, sandy beaches, beach bars and restaurants on an island 10 miles by 1.
There are many highly recommended fish restaurants, which serve locally caught shellfish and fresh fish dishes, enjoyed with a glass of ‘vinho verde’, the ´green` sparkling wine which is typically Portuguese. Numerous cafes and restaurants line the river, public gardens and quiet squares, offering an array of traditional patisseries and fresh fish dishes.
Tavira beaches make up part of the Nature Reserve of the Ria Formosa, which comprise six unique barrier islands protecting a system of salt marshes and tidal mudflats, each fronted by white sand beaches that spread as far as the eye can see. An unspoilt haven for nature lovers, walkers and bird watchers.
Few places in Europe have so many Blue Flag beaches in such a concentrated area, you can enjoy the boat and miniature train river crossings, many of which are operational throughout the year.
Inland and set in rural countryside 7 km north of Tavira is the waterfall of ‘Moinhos da Rocha’. A series of wooden decks and bridges skirt a leafy ravine sheltering the crystal clear waters of a small stream. This culminates in a low but impressive waterfall that empties into a small lake. Further up stream are the other beautiful cascading waterfalls of ‘Pego do Inferno’, both pretty places for picnics and having a dip!
There are seasonal festivals of live music, street theatre and open air cinema interspersed with various fairs. One of the main festivals is Sâo Joâo on the 24th of June, when Tavira is decorated in paper flowers, host carnivals and processions with late night sardine- eating and street dancing!
