Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday home in Bailey Island - Flying Lobster Ocean House

Postcard Views Fr Every Room In 5 King Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, 10 Sleeps Cottage

Experience charming, picturesque Bailey Island a Maine Casco Bay Coastal Island destination for vacationers from all over the world for over 100 years. Because Bailey Island is now connected to the mainland by the World's only existing Cribstone Bridge, it is no longer necessary to take a ferry to visit. 2013 built large 5 king bedroom Ocean House with incredible panoramic views in all directions with back of House located less than 50 feet from Merriconeag Sound on West Side and front of House less than 50 feet from Garrison Cove on East Side of Oceanfront House. Every room has incredible long distance oceanfront views. The view from the front of our property was recently listed in the 60 Year Anniversary Edition of Downeast Magazine as one of the best views in Maine. The House is surrounded by so much water and ocean scenery, you will feel like you are cruising on a boat. See beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the large windows and decks on East, West and North sides of the House. House is in the middle of Lobster Land. Garrison Cove is a working lobster harbor with several lobster boats moored and a working lobster dock in front of the House. Walk 200 yards to famous Cook's Lobster Restaurant and Lobster Pound and eat lobsters at the Restaurant or buy precooked lobsters at the Pound or live ones and cook them at the House. You won't taste fresher or better lobsters anywhere. The lobsters you eat are caught in the waters surrounding the House on the same day by the lobster boats moored directly in front of the House. If you have your own boat, we have a deep water mooring you can use located in Garrison Cove in front of our property. House has many amenities including 60 inch TV and Surround Sound System and gas log fireplace in living room, WIFI throughout house, and 32 inch TVs in all 5 Bedrooms, 3 of which have private decks. Central air conditioning, screen porch overlooking Sound, and decks on both side of house and huge raised sun deck on edge of Merriconeag Sound. The views around the House, especially Garrison Cove and the Cribstone Bridge, are some of the most photographed scenes on the Maine Coast and extend to Small Point to the East, High Head to the North, Harpswell Neck to the West and Cape Elizabeth to the Southwest. From the House, screen porch and decks, see seals swimming in the Sound, lobster men and women setting and pulling traps, and Casco Bay Lines ferry boats, kayaks, skiffs, sailboats, tuna, fishing and lobster boats cruising by just a stones throw from the shore of the property. Walk on the beach on the front of the House adjacent to Garrison Cove or the shoreline on the deepwater oceanfront side finding shells, crabs, mussels, snails, sea glass, driftwood and other ocean treasures.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A wonderful week in a beautiful house with a thoughtful and kind welcome. A trip never to be forgotten. And thank you for all the "kindnesses" and attention.

Some wonderful things we did: Kayaking in Boothbay Harbor, Reid State Park, Five Islands, and antiquing.

What we saw and discovered: Harbor seals, incredible landscapes, some of the most delicious lobster we ever ate.

Moments, glimpses, and little details that mattered: Looking out from any window in the house to watch the sun rise and set while the lobster boats go by.

Amazing Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Three generations from 16 months to 62 - what an incredible week! Our first visit to Maine and so glad we picked Bailey's Island. The Flying Lobster was incredible and exceeded our expectations. Jim & MariJo were quick to respond to emails prior to our stay and checked with us upon our arrival to be sure all was in order. We very much appreciated the high chair and Pac n' Play for our grandson. He had his own room and slept very well - of course all that fresh sea air helped too. House was equipped with all the necessities and then some. We walked to the island's point to go to Land's End and shop for souvenirs (2+ miles). Also, the beach at the point was nice to launch kayaks or sit & read. Cook's was too convenient! Went for lobsters twice and a couple of happy hours. H2O Outfitters is just a short walk across the Cribstone Bridge - Gabrielle was great to help us with our kayak rentals - so many places to paddle to - visit the island with the flag. Found great shells - 1/2 hr. leisurely paddle. Walked the beach in front of the house many times; explored Cliff Trail, Farmer's Market, Freeport & Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens - which was just beautiful! Children's garden was perfect for the little one. We had no expectations for this vacation - especially traveling with a 16 mo. old. However, we were blessed with so much having stayed at this home - everyone had space. Great family meals at the large table; in the evenings gathered around the coffee table & large (very comfortable) sofa to play Rumikub & eat popcorn; evening sunsets/cocktails on the adirondack chairs; and EVERY morning a picture perfect sunrise for me, Nana, on the brown leather couch facing the bridge. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!

the perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Flying Lobster House. The house was spotless, all the bedrooms had king size beds with nice linens and pillows, each room had a TV and a view of the water. The kitchen was very well equipped with dishes, utensils, pots and pans. We enjoyed cooking together a few nights then lit the fireplace and played board games. Wonderful family time. We all gathered on the deck by the water for morning coffee and evening cocktails. Being from a state in the middle of the country, we enjoyed watching the boats and lobstermen pulling up the traps.Jim, the owner, called early in our stay and told us about nearby restaurants and things to do. Everyone found something they liked to do nearby-beautiful walking trails, kayaking, restaurants, and just enjoying the view. We drove to Camden one day. Loved the picturesque small towns along the way, visited a couple lighthouses, took lots of pictures of the rocky coastline and enjoyed shopping in Camden.

There were no negatives to our stay. The house is gorgeous, and they thought of all the little extras like soft blankets in baskets in the family area to snuggle in, games, brochures of places in the area, and the nice surprise in the refrigerator upon our arrival. We plan to come back many times!

Beautiful home perched on the water in Maine!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this home, we had 7 ladies on a girls New England adventure! The house was perfect for us, each room has amazing views, wonderful bedding and beautiful decorated. We were there when it was cold, so we didn't use the Adirondack chairs as much as I would have liked, but just seeing them brought a wave of tranquility over me. The kitchen is fully equipped and we had a wonderful surprise in the refrigerator waiting for us. You will not be disappointed booking this home, it is outstanding!

A treat and an adventure!

  • 5 of 5

Dramatically beautiful setting, pristine home, well decorated, and comfortable! This home is amazingly thought out. You feel as though you are on the water. It sits on a small bit of land in an authentic setting. If you are looking for the true taste of a small coastal island in Maine, I don't think you can do better than the Flying Lobster house. We will return.

A Little Piece of Heaven...

  • 5 of 5

Honestly, words cannot express the incredible time we had at Flying Lobster House! Jim and Marijo were a pleasure to work with & incredibly accommodating. My friend who spent the year fighting breast cancer was coming up on her year anniversary of her diagnosis. When I booked the trip we didn't know what her prognosis would be, but thankfully a week before the trip we found out she was in remission! Due to treatments over the past year, my friend and her daughter had not been away & I wanted to set up a girlfriends weekend that would take her mind away from everything. I ended up inviting my Mom on the trip and what a WONDERFUL mother/daughter time we had! The house is magnificent & honestly even better than any pictures could depict-- you will have the reaction of tears and utter awe when you walk through the door like we all had I am sure! Every morning you can take your breakfast & sit out by the water and enjoy the incredible views with a feeling of privacy on the dock.We also enjoyed the surrounding towns Boothbay Harbor & Bath which are fun day trips. In town we enjoyed walking from the house over the bridge & enjoying the crisp air and beautiful views. We hiked Devil's Back & went to see The Giant Stairs which is a town favorite when you ask the locals. Jim called & offered some incredible suggestions & made sure there was nothing else we needed, what a wonderful & personal touch! Not only were Jim & Marijo so kind about accommodating our shorter stay, but due to the fact that 3 out of 4 of us work in emergency medicine which is where I met both my friend & her daughter, in order to all be off for the same time period it meant that some finagaling had to be done. Jim was very kind to help us all out & try to make this little heavenly retreat happen for my sweet friends & they did everything they possibly could to make the stay as special as possible for us all. I was overwhelmed by Jim and Marijo's generosity to help us schedule the dates & it ended up being four of the best days that we can all remember. Some of our favorite moments were spent in the house, bringing cooked lobsters in and having a family style dinner and then sitting around the comfortable great room catching up with great friends. I wish that more people could experience the incredible time that we had & I encourage anyone to book this house! You will not regret your stay at the Flying Lobster House & we will remember this vacation for years to come, it was truly a gift!
