Thank you for allowing our family to be together at your house in the mountains the weekend before Thanksgiving to celebrate a 7 year olds’ birthday! We had 5 adults and 3 children and plenty of room to play with room to spare. The house was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The kids loved playing with their helium balloons in the tall ceilings and their car and train tracks on the roomy floors. It was great to have 2 awesome spaces to watch TV, one for morning cartoons and the other for morning news at the same time. The thermostat controlled gas fireplaces were a new experience for us – amazing how pretty and warm they made the rooms. Even though our weekend was cold, we spent plenty of time outside too. We hiked Crabtree falls to mile marker 1.1 – about as far as our group could make it with lunch and nap time approaching, especially since the 2 year old was in a carrier on his mother’s back and one was a Gramma. We enjoyed the fire pit in the back yard roasting marshmallows and watching the fire. Even with icicles forming on the boulders in the Tye river, we did a little rock hopping and exploration. Thank you Kealy, for so generously sharing your house with visitors from the city.
The listing description was accurate. The house was clean and well maintained. I would recommend this property to others and would like to return myself, perhaps for a fall trip. Enjoyed mornings on the deck with a cup of coffee, a book and the sound of the stream.
This spot was perfect for our group who just wanted to relax off the grid - while still in a beautiful home with excellent amenities.
We hiked a local trail, Spy Rock, which is on the AT, and only about a 10 minute drive from the house. There is other hiking close also.
If you head back towards Charlottesville, from the house, there are wonderful places to have a beer or glass of wine, or a meal, while basking in the beauty of the Blue Ridge. Truly a spectacular area.
(My only warning would be that there is no a/c in the house. The temperatures are generally cooler at the house because of its location in the mountains, and the house is equipped with ceiling fans and window fans, so the conditions were pleasant for us.)
This property does not have air conditioning, unlike they advertise. It was over 100 degree heat index during our stay and we were very uncomfortable.
the house was easily accessible, spacious, clean and easy to live in. everything was provided. the tye river is right across the road, crabtree falls and the fish hatchery are within a few miles, but everything else (except walking) to do requires at least a 45 minute ride. cell service was non existent and there was no wifi either. there were three tv's with limited options. none of this is necessarily negative, but worth knowing in advance. ideal for people without kids or adults who don't need distractions.
ENJOYED THE HOUSE VERY MUCH --- PLENTY OF ROOM---GREAT VIEW---COMFORTABLE---NICE PLACE. WE HOPE TO RETURN IN THE FALL.

Wonderful visit to the area. House is very nice and comfortable. Great location. The only problem was we had very little water pressure and the upstairs shower would not even work because of no pressure. It was very difficult to shower in any of the baths.
