Charming detached cottage on estate w. salt water pool and hot tub, shade trees
This charming one bedroom, detached house is the original 1940s stableman’s quarters for the Bette Davis estate Riverbottom. The cabin is fresh, vibrant and newly refurbished while still maintaining some of its unique, original features.
The cool, open LIVING ROOM and KITCHEN has high ceilings, exposed beams, white wood floors and original art on the walls. The front door and main windows face the garden, trees and hammock, and the stable block. The back windows look out over the neighboring horse paddocks and in the far distance, the LA Equestrian Center and the setting sun beyond that.
The BEDROOM is small, simple, with a Custom Comfort (very comfortable) queen sized bed. There’s built-in closet/storage area. A small fold out couch at the foot of the bed.
The BATHROOM has a groovy tiled shower and looks out through arched windows toward the pool.
Named after Humphrey Bogart’s character Michael O’Leary, the stableman in Davis’ 1939 film Dark Victory; the cabin enjoys a 32” flat screen tv with both digital cable with the movie package and HBO, Apple TV and Netfix, there’s wifi throughout the estate. Heating and air-conditioning are in the wall unit in the living room; the laundry (clothes washer and drier) in the adjoining utility room.
O'Leary's Cabin is the smallest and most remote house available on the estate at the far end adjoining the stable block. The other houses that are available are:
Rivergate House VRBO Listing #712356,
the whole estate at VRBO Listing #708660,
Dillard’s Pool House VRBO Listing #488798 and
O’Leary’s Cabin VRBO Listing #465113
Rivergate is a private, historic equestrian ESTATE. It enjoys massive organic gardens, almost half acre of drought tolerant garden with an abundance of butterflies and birds, saltwater pool and spa, hammocks, shade trees, French Lavender maze for toddlers to learn to walk through, art studio, fire pit, fountain area, fruit orchard, outdoor dining areas… and Wi-Fi throughout.
The horse stables are on your doorstep where Reina and her baby foal live (unless you are staying early 2018 and she might still be pregnant) The art studio is also under the arches of the barn at the far end of the estate (please check out my two Airbnb Experiences for painting https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/65880 and horseback riding https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/70605 and https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/78904 is the new horseback VIP ride
It is not uncommon as the sun is setting that we all gather to play or chat in the garden, the park, or in the front orchard. It is a unique place and a little hard to describe, it feels a little like a village on a summer day.

About Amelia Pitti
I live part time on the estate with my two young children Winston and Vivienne. I am originally from London, England. I take my role as host very seriously and personally. I have won the Hero Award from another Holiday Rental site. We have a kind and hardworking team here and we do our very best to make sure that you have a great time.
Amelia Pitti purchased this House in 2012
Why Amelia Pitti chose Glendale
The NEIGHBORHOOD upscale and residential. Many of the large houses have private stables and it is common to see cowboys riding in the streets. We are just a few miles from Los Feliz, Silver Lake and Atwater (two exits on the freeway, about 5 minutes). We are bicycling distance from the studios (NBC, CBS, Warner Bros, Disney, Nickelodeon …). Additionally, there are four golf courses very near, as well as Travel Town, the LA Zoo, The Autry Museum, several horse riding facilities and playgrounds, Pickwick ice-skating and bowling and of course the wildlife and 52 miles of hiking and horse riding trails in Grffith Park. Don’t let the rural setting and the hooting of the owls fool you, we are still in the heart of the city and you should be aware that you can sometimes hear the freeway, helicopters, dogs and sirens typical of city living. I mention it because it seems out of place while you lounge in the sun on the lawn feeling like you are out in the country.
What makes this House unique
RIvergate is a special community of holiday homes. The families and friends that stay with us bring joy and companionship to the relationships that are forged here. We are united in friendship and the vacation sprite. It is nice to have people similar to ourselves; families seeing the Hollywood sites, Industry professionals, and locals seeking a beautiful place to relax in the center of it all. There are great cycling trails and running tracks throughout the neighborhood and into the Park. Downtown Los Angeles is about 15 minutes away, depending a little on the infamous LA traffic (there is a shortcut through the park along Riverside Drive that is very pretty and cuts out some of the traffic). Burbank and Glendale are home to loads of shopping including the Americana (a high end outdoor mall with fountain, fine restaurants and events). A Pavilions supermarket is one of the finest around and within walking distance.

Just amazing in every way
I didn't even know places like this existed anymore.. especially in LA. So peaceful, soulful, simple, easy. You feel like in a good old world there. Our cabin was super clean, comfortable, nothing too much or too little. So glad we found this place and can't wait to come back. Thank you Amelia!
Beautiful property in convenient location
This is our second stay at the O'Leary Cabin. In the five years between visits, Amy has created an even more beautiful and inviting oasis. She has replaced lawns with lovely dry weather gardens with winding stone paths, a field of lavender, jasmine, bouganvilla, and other beautiful planting including fruit trees (Amy said I could pick lemons and I made delicious marmalade).
While Boston suffered four major storms, we sat in the spa or read in the many comfortable outside seating areas. We also enjoyed the nearby presence of the mare Raina and her foal, Contessa.
The O'Leary Cabin is simply but comfortably furnished. Amy is an incredibly responsive host and quickly supplied us with a few items we requested to make our monthlong stay more comfortable. She even loaned us Bette Davis DVDs so we could enjoy our own Bette Davis Film Festival. We will not be staying here again only because we are relocating to the LA area to be near our family. We highly recommend this property and the other cottages Amy manages in this lovely compound.
Thank you for an excellent stay.
Amelia makes you feel right at home and is quick to provide any assistance that you may need. The location is just in the right spot for getting to downtown and all around.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to travel to LA for a weekend or a few weeks. :)
I was in the area for work and picked this place because it seemed homey and I'm so glad that I did. Amelia was very accommodating and i loved visiting Reina (the horse) everyday. The home is convenient to stores and restaurants. I would definitely return.
The hostess is excellent & even had a personal note for me with details for my comfort !
Flowers, coffee. Cream & a fruit basket! Love this place!!
The most unique vacation rental ever!
My husband and I stayed in O'Leary's cabin for the month of December and it was great! What makes it unique? It is located on a ranch (yes it is dusty, but ranches are that way) in Glendale which is a suburb of Los Angeles. It was like living in the country while being in the city and close to many attractions. We visited the Gene Autry museum, Norton Simon Museum, Brand Library, and Huntington Library. The cabin is small yet very clean and quaint with a kitchen if you would like to cook your own meals. Although we found a few favorite places to eat as well: World Empanadas (really good breakfast burritos), Basecamp for coffee, Mambos (cuban), Sotta (kabobs), and Summer Buffalo (best Thai ever!). Our host Amy is such a delight and communicates very timely. Meeting her and her children was a joy! All in all, when we visit the Burbank area we will stay at here again!
