Nestled beneath the ramparts of the medieval town of Semur en Auxois, this former fisherman’s cottage has been restored with style by Patricia and local craftsman. Oak, local stone & family antiques add to the character and charm of this ‘petite maison’.
Once you walk through the little red garden gate, the ‘petite maison’ and its setting capture your imagination with breath taking views of the river and beyond.
This very special garden, enclosed by a stone walled on one side and the river on the other, the leafy green garden and the river carry you away to a world of your own.
Perfect romantic getaway. Great for relaxing and be away from it all. WiFi connection!.. So you are not completely disconnected!
Patricia warmly welcomes you

Hello, my name is Patricia. I lived abroad most of my life, USA, Portugal... and I spend 12 years in the UK. I worked in Sales and Marketing in the IT Industry and I now teach English and French. I moved to Burgundy in 2010 and renovated 3 gites, I am also the founder of 123lang.com and provide immersion classes in French and English.
I fell in love with the cottage as a child, the cottage was a family property. The house at the time was a fishermen's cottage with stone floor, no water nor electricity. I decided to renovate it and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
We have enjoyed the stay in your cottage. But indeed, the weather was really far from perfect so we could not enjoy the region a much as we had planned to in tems of outdoor activities. We shoul come back in spring or summer. The cottage is really nice - But would have been nice to use the garden.
What a wonderful place this is! We keep coming back and everytime it feels like a warm bath, like our second home.
The cottage is small, cute and very cosy. And it is amazing how complete it is furnished, everything one needs is there. The bed is big and very comfortable, placed on the mezzanine which makes it even more cosy. And the shower....I'm over 2meters tall and used to the fact that in most rentals I can not stand up straight. But in this little cottage the shower is definately high enough and even has a strong flow. In the private green garden next to the riverbank (small calm river), you can enjoy the shade or sun, listen to the birds and hunting fish...so relaxing an silent. The location is good, the environment is beautiful, for walks for instance. And at 10 minutes walking distance your are in the middle of the little village with nice restaurants. Or if you like to visit a nice city, Dijon is only 50 minutes driving. And last but not least, the owner Patricia, she is so nice and easy going, she takes care that you have everything you need. We will definately go back again. If you consider a stay at this cottage....do yourself a favor and book it!
We stayed at this lovely place in early July and the weather was fabulous.
The cottage is small but very well organised and Patricia (the owner) has thought of everything so you don't need to pack things like tin foil, cling film, matches etc.....
The property has a lovely new shower with lots of hot water and is a good size. The bed is very comfortable and the pillows are just like home!
However the garden and the river are what sets this place apart - we loved it. So much so we chose to stay in most nights and BBQ.
The nature watching for otters and water vowels is enchanting and my husband caught a huge huge carpe and had several more bites but they got away.
Overall, if you are looking for a very relaxing stay, with nature and fishing (if you are into that) however near to all the amenities and the lovely Burgandy area, I could not recommend this place enough!!!!
Patricia made us very welcome and comfortable in her unique little cottage on the river. The location was lovely -- and convenient to Semur en Auxois, with several interesting routes up into the historic town. It was a treat to stay in such a self-contained unit after weeks of hotels and inns. While tiny, it had all the necessities, and scaling a ladder to settle in a night felt a bit like being on an adventure. We enjoyed the proximity to the river although cool weather prevented us from sitting out. Thanks Patricia for a memorable stay...
A very warm welcome from Patricia, extremely well organised for directions, access and information.
Cottage ground floor has comfortable sofa, dining table, desk with excellent WiFi,portable sound system and a small selection of reading material. Galley style kitchen area electric hob,microwave/oven plus all the normal utensils, condiments etc.
Shower and toilet facilities very good, shower very good plenty of hot water.Actual shower cabinet is very compact, entry and exit could be awkward, we are both small size and light weight but we managed ok.
Bedroom area is in the roof space accessed by a large oak stair ladder. Most comfortable thick mattress on oak polished floor no sleeping problems from our viewpoint.
Again be aware if you have mobility problems both climbing the stairway and moving around in the angle of the roof space.
Heating via electric radiators was excellent and numerous lighting options are available in both areas.
Long shady garden with BBQ and eating area would be good if the weather is good. Two reclining chairs to move in or out of the sunny spots ,relax and watch the river and ducks float by.
An interesting old town to amble through numerous cafes, eateries etc. Beautiful countryside and places to visited Vezalay,Fontenay Abbey,Beaune,Dijon,Chablis.
A super visit, suited the purpose very well, would highly recommend for future visitors to the area.
Many thanks to Patricia for providing such well managed, clean and warm accomodation.
This is a very charming cottage, in a pretty, peaceful position in a picture- book perfect medieval town. Patricia the owner is efficient, helpful and friendly. The cottage is clean and equipped sufficiently but to a no-frills level.
The property is small, as it says in the description but as Patricia has said in her response to another review it is a bit like a boat or a caravan in that if you keep every thing in it's place you will manage and there is plenty of outside space if the weather is good.
What I wasn't expecting was just what a challenge the bedroom would be.Not the ladder, that was stable and felt safe. However even though I am only 5' 5'' I found it really difficult to move around without bumping and bruising myself. It is like a ridge tent with very hard walls! The only way I managed was to stoop or crawl when in the loft space and to take my clothes downstairs to get dressed. I mention this because I think it is important to understand you will need to be reasonable flexible of body and attitude to be comfortable in this cottage. If you enjoy camping/caravanning then I think you will love the cottage, if you are not so keen on that sort of thing or have any joint or back problems this may not be the best choice for you.
Le Jardin d'Armancon is a romantic little cottage, next to a river, with parking right outside the gate, in a quaint Medieval village with a few great restaurants. The owner, Patricia, came down and welcomed us the first evening we arrived. A few nights later, she invited us to her home where we met a British couple and shared a lovely evening with cheese, bread, pate, a lot of good wine, Patricia's yummy homemade vegetable juice, and interesting conversation! Patricia even let us do some laundry there! The cottage is small but very well organized with everything we needed. Our only complaint would be walking up the ladder to the loft-bedroom where it was too tight to stand up, although the bed was very comfortable. (It probably wouldn't bother a younger couple!) Overall, a delightful experience we would highly recommend!
Its location gives you the best of both worlds, calm & tranquillity amongst the natural surroundings on the terrace or in the garden but, within a two minute walk you can be in the centre of town with all the local activity, weekly market, shops, cafes and restaurants etc.
Semur itself is a favoured and well positioned destination of many visiting the region. This medieval town is ideally set between Chablis to the North and Beaune & Dijon to the South with local Vineyards of Auxois close by, providing a perfect location for the wine & food lover. Historical villages and sites are also in abundance and within easy reach - Fontenay Abbey, Flavigny, Bussy Rabutin, Les Forges de Buffon, Vezelay, Epoisse, Chablis, Wine route. Plenty of local walks to discover the Flora and Fauna. Special visitors come in the garden - Ducks and heron.
