About Suyen Vargas
We are a family from Cincinnati, Ohio and fell in love with Nicaragua in 2007. We have two small boys and wanted to make Nicaragua a permanent part of their lives growing up. We love Nicaragua for the natural beauty, the cultural immersion and—most of all—the wonderful people.
Suyen Vargas purchased this House in 2013
Why Suyen Vargas chose Las Peñitas
We chose this house most of all for its great location. It's right on the Pacific Ocean next to the low-tide surf break. It's a 15 min (or less) walk to all of the restaurants and hotels in Las Penitas, yet only a 15 min drive to the historic colonial city of Leon, with its universities, museums, and churches, including UNESCO world heritage sites. Las Penitas is a quaint fishing village where you can watch local families catch their dinner—and yours. On the weekend, you will see local holidaymakers from the city of Leon. During the week, you will have the beach to yourself (but restaurants remain open).
What makes this House unique
The most unique aspects of this house are the open layout, the views and the pool. The house features two balconies and two patios, with plenty of hammocks and rocking chairs made locally. Have dinner prepared by our lovely caretaker, Mary, in the outdoor dining room. Later, enjoy a book in the upstairs breezeway featuring the same 'mimbre' furniture used by the new upscale resort Mukul which has been featured in the Wall Street Journal. Every bedroom in the house has a view of the Pacific Ocean, and even the kitchen has a great ocean view. Listen to the waves crash as you fall asleep (you don't even need the air conditioning). The oceanfront swimming pool is one of our kids' favorite spots. It features steps into the pool and goes to a depth of about five feet. Finally, relax in the oceanfront, shaded rancho with locally made hammocks and hammock chairs. Watch the incredible Las Penitas sunsets every night while you have a local beer or locally made rum. The house features a full-time, on-site caretaker who handle cleaning, and cooking services can be arranged for an additional fee. The caretaker and her family live in a separate residence on the property.

We stayed the night with a large group of people and loved it! Beautiful beach and very homey atmosphere.
This was the perfect getaway. The house was spacious and spotless. The weather was awesome and the house had what felt like a private beach. Mary was fab to have help us out during our stay.
Peaceful beachfront for the family
I stayed here with my family who is from the area. They said this was a perfect rental for the family to enjoy for a week and they were right. Mary and her family who live onsite and work with guests were amazing. This location is a great escape that is close enough to the action to keep one satisfied. Thank you Casa Natalia!
Amazing vacation spot
We had the best experience at this place. The views are amazing and hard to find this kinda of view anywhere else. The staff was amazing and very gracious. We loved the open feeling and the sounds of the ocean. The hammocks made it so relaxing. We have told many people about Casa Natalia and will be back again for sure. And the picture opportunity at sunset makes for great family beach pictures.
Beautiful, Spacious Beach Front House
I shared this house with several friends and it was delightful in every way. The house was spacious and well-decorated with A/C in the bedrooms, the outdoor living area was inviting (the hammocks were everywhere you needed one), and the pool was perfect. Easily accessible by bus/taxi/car from Leon, the property is mere steps from the beautiful beach. I would love to stay at here again!
We spent three lovely days walking our "private beach" in the off season, enjoying Mary's cooking and hospitality. It was a long anniversary weekend for my husband and I. We picked up groceries and fresh fruit from the farm stand in Leon and arrived at sunset. We planned to eat at one of the local hotels, but Mary's quick prepared a fantastic feast. We enjoyed every meal at the house in comfort. Loved her traditional food from seafood soup and lobster to pollo and snapper filets. Don't miss out on gallo pinto, nicaraguan bacon and fresca (fresh fruit juice with sucra). Walking the beach was enjoyable at all tides. The second floor porch and hammocks afforded naps and reading. Next time we'll plan for a hike at Cerro Negro.
Las Penitas is a beautiful and laid back Nicaraguan Fishing village. Tourism is growing in the area so there are a number of restaurants and tour operators, but the feeling is still very authentic Nicaragua! You can buy fresh fish right out of the boat and have our wonderful caretaker family cook it up for you Nicaraguan style. You will also have plenty of opportunity to practice your spanish, take a boat ride through the protected mangroves or paddle out in the water and catch some waves with the local guys. The days will also pass quickly in a hammock or in the pool, but the colonial city of Leon is only 15 minutes away and there you will find an incredible amount of history, architecture, great food and Music. Las Penitas offers the best of all worlds!
