If you come for the fishing White Iron Lake is spectacular! We sit in a bay with a quaint island offshore, while the lake itself is 7 miles long and part of a chain of five lakes. We have access to the Boundary Waters right from our shore. White Iron Lake is known for its large Northern Pike and Walleye as well as Bass and Crappies. If you would like a guide to help just ask we have guide service available.
For the more adventuresome we offer easy access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA), one of the wildest places in the USA. Overnight access to the BWCA is closely monitored by the US Park Service and we strongly recommend you make plans ahead of time if you plan to camp in the BWCA.
Our neighbors include deer, wolves (largest population in the lower 48), black bears, fox, bald eagles, and the occasional moose.
While we are located in the Great Northwoods we are only a short drive to town. Ely has been called the 'coolest small town in America'. It features many quaint shops and restaurants. If you run out of supplies there are 2 full service grocery stores in town as well as several places for sporting equipment, bait and the like. The area offers many places to boat, hike and fish as well as interesting attractions like the Soudan Mine. The North American Bear Center and International Wolf Center are both located right outside opposite ends of town.
My husband(Pete) and I have been coming to Ely for 42 years. We love the area ,the adventure and the people. In 2003 we were able to purchase Outdoor Adventure Canoe Outfitting with partners Kerry and Sandy Davis(owners of White Iron beach Resort). So we loaded up the truck and moved to Ely! Well first we needed to retire from our jobs and convince our family we weren't crazy. The first few summers we worked the business during the summer(I was a teacher) and we did our day jobs the rest of the time. My husband worked at the power plant in Alma,Wisconsin and worked 4 10 hr days then drove the 5 hour trip on the weekends to be here. We learned to pack food and equipment, repair canoes, cook pancakes and haul people out to the entry points of the BWCAW. We worked hard but enjoyed every minute of our 20 hour days. We met some great people, made lifetime friends and fell in love with Ely all over again!
In 2009 we retired and were able to develop the property. Pete and I were able to purchase the main lodge as our home and develop a rental unit. Now as my son says we are living the dream and growing old in Ely! We love to fish and spend as many days as we can on the water or maybe just sitting on the deck drinking coffee and diet coke. If you want, you can always get my husband to tell you a fish story. He knows a lot of good fishing areas and loves to share his knowledge.
Kerry and Sandy Davis purchased this lodge in 2009
The white pines that surround this property are awesome as is the view of the lake from our deck.. The island that we look at is ever changing and just a peaceful place to just look at.
We have the best view of the Lake from our deck and from the living room area. we have just expanded the living room area so there is lots of sitting room for visiting and enjoying the view. Last year we added an outdoor patio area for roasting marshmallows and enjoying the night sky.
We have stayed at this location for almost the last 10 years! The cabin itself is clean, has a wonderful layout and you can't beat the view! The owners are amazing, they go above and beyond to make sure we have everything we need to have an enjoyable stay. We have 3 small children (ages 7 months, 3 and 5) and we always have an outstanding. There is fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, games in the main lodge, and play areas outside. We've tried other places and always come back here!
We are located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area.
