In 2003 while on vacation in the south of France I, some might say in a moment of madness, bought a large ruined property near the center of the Olonzac. Olonzac is the capital of Minervois valley which is noted for it's wine production. I've fallen in love with this region as so many have. It is still quite rural but offers so much with it's laid back lifestyle and friendly community
owner/property manager purchased this house in 2003
I was intrigued but the possibilities of this large property with it's buildings built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Chateau, actually a large maison de maitre or Gentleman's house, I renovated into 9 apartments, next was a huge stone barn converted into 3 conjoined modern houses and I only have 5 more buildings to do!
One of the attractions of this property is the amount of open space within the walled grounds. There are now lawns, gardens, a fish pond and swimming pool. All this just steps from the main boulevard.
Olonzac is centered in the Minervois valley wine growing region of France. It has a Mediterranean climate. 35 kilometers from the coast and 5 kilometers from the foothills of the Black Mountains it is perfect for Biking and Hiking. There are a number of villages in the valley but Olonzac is the commercial hub with numerous cafes and restaurants. There is a lively Tuesday morning market.
Olonzac is situated half way between Narbonne on the coast and Carcassonne a restored walled city.
