Whidbey waterfront cabin on 200 + feet of Double Bluff beach in Useless Bay.
About Paul Tschetter
Two families purchased this home in late 2012 after meeting through a shared interest in kiteboarding. One of the families lives right here on Whidbey Island. The other family live in Seattle. We love Whidbey Island and especially Useless Bay!

Why Paul Tschetter chose Freeland
Useless Bay is unmatched, and this property is amazing! The remodel was a serious labor of love, but it was well-worth the effort. We had a vision for this dusty old diamond in the rough; we believed it could be updated and enjoyed by future generations of families.
What makes this Cabin unique
The cabin sits perched 40' up on Double Buff, but it still has direct waterfront access. The lot is 200' wide and over 3 acres. It's beautiful! World class kiteboarding can be accessed right in front of the cabin October thru April. The property is literally surrounded by 100s of acres of county and state land where you can explore miles of beach and public tidelands year round.

We had a lovely weekend at the house. The beach is steps away and we felt safe letting the kids run out to the beach on their own. The house has an AMAZING view and it was close enough to grocery stores but far enough away to really get away.
The proximity of the cabin to the beach is pretty special. Mom and dad can relax on the deck and watch the kids running free on the beach. The deck is great for people, wildlife and shipping lanes watching.
What a lovely house in a fabulous location! A very long beach is right out the door for taking long walks. A big deck w/ lots of seating is great for just taking it all in. The house is full of windows, so the view is always right there. Definitely coming back!
The deck is a great place to relax and spend quality time with friends and family. We just added 4 new Adirondack chairs this fall adding more seating options. Many of or guests love returning to Double Bluff Beach Club year after year!
A tale of two windows
It was the best of times and the worst of times, and it all had to do with windows.
This house is located on a very private spot looking out over a drift wood speckled beach. The view is its finest feature from on top of a bluff. Lying in bed the window is perfectly situated to take in the view and (if you're inclined) watch the sun rising. However, the windows in the main living area (as mentioned by others) are situated too high on the wall to allow one to sit and see the sights. While it would be costly to correct what was an architect or builder's boo boo and either replace them or add a row of windows below them, it is very frustrating to renters. Also, it would cost pennies to put up blinds or shades by the bedroom windows, and it is absolutely necessary for those of us who like to sleep.
My wife and I were otherwise quite pleased with this house, although it is set up and financially a better arrangement for people with kids or two families who want to squeeze together.
Larder pretty well stocked, although no oil or vinegar. Kitchen well equiped with everything you could want. Bar set-up instead of a dining room table (it was mostly too cold to eat outside).
Oh, and about the previous person who complained about the Yellow-jacks--- this is the season that they are in evidence, but they mainly are attracted to fruit and meat. We were never stung or incovenienced (and my wife is allergic). Not an issue for us!
Unfortunately, due to structural requirements, the windows are the size they are which means when you are seated on the couch, your view of the beach is blocked to an extent. The great news is that when you are sitting at the kitchen bar or anywhere on the deck, standing in literally every room of the cabin, the view is AMAZING!!! We do our best to keep the kitchen stocked. The windows do have treatments but need to be put back up after painting earlier this year (we have been so busy with guests that our handyman has not been able to get in to do this.) The cabin is great for couple as well as familes!
Magnificent view! Secluded and cozy...
If you enjoy the islands and the views this place will absolutely not disappoint. The layout, furnishings and decor are all top notch and provide a homey warm experience regardless of the weather. It should be noted that you need to be clear that the views are spectacular because the home sits on a hillside and it’s a considerable hike from parking to the front door. Though the incline has been nicely spaced out it is definitely a 3 story hike so “pack light” unless your training for a marathon. That being said I don’t want to discourage anyone because it is truly worth the climb!
The views from every room are quite amazing. As mentioned in our listing and reinforced by past guests, it is a little "hike" to get up to the cabin from where you park your car. Most would agree that the small hike is worth the view and overall experience!
Amazing beach getaway!
Our stay at the cabin was amazing. The views are spectacular and such a quick walk to a great beach. We saw plenty of wildlife including a pod of orcas that I saw from the fire pit. The kitchen is nicely stocked and there are plenty of beach towels.
We had 2 families of 4 and we had the right amount of space. The kids enjoyed the bunk room and having a tv there was necessary.
Definitely more pros than cons. Cons: the stairs are no joke, if we had grandparents or small children it would've been tough, our group had no issues; lack of curtains in downstairs bathroom - you can see everything from outside; lastly, no fault of the owner, the yellow jackets were insane and 3 stings during our stay, they were everywhere we went on Whidbey.
We'd definitely go back when it's not yellow jacket season.
We are so happy when our guest get to enjoy Double Bluff Beach Club as much as we do. Oops, we recently painted the interior of the cabin and a few of the blinds/curtains did not get put back up. We will make sure to do that as soon as there is an opening in the schedule.
Our professional pest control company sweeps the cabin exterior for wasp nests and bee hives on their monthly visit to the property however we have over 3 acres so they can not prevent yellow jackets 100% on our property and beyond.
We had such an amazing time at this house. It was the perfect size for our 2 families and we can't wait to go again. From the moment we got there, the kids were so excited to run onto the beach and play. The kids bedroom was a hit! They loved sleeping in the cabins and having some downtime. The outdoor shower was great and used often to rinse off the sand. The views from the house are incredible! The deck was spacious and a great spot to have dinner or your morning coffee. There are a lot of stairs but it was never a problem. Overall, an amazing trip! Thanks so much for a great stay.
Double Bluff Beach CLub is the perfect getaway for 2 families. It is cozy but there are two proper bedrooms for parents and then 4 bunk beds for the kiddos. The deck is scenic and great for having meals especially warm evening dinners!
