Pictures Don't Do It Justice
Absolutely beautiful house on an even more beautiful piece of property. Totally quiet, able to see hundreds of stars in the sky at night, and plenty of outdoor gathering space to enjoy it all. The house is updated and spacious. Would 100% come here again.
I would highly recommend renting a car (SUV, if possible) because rideshare is not available at the top of the mountain. We had no trouble getting up and down the steep driveway with our rental vehicles (Durango and BMW SUV).
I'm still giving this 5 stars but shower space is limited (2 bathrooms) and our guest shower was not draining. Outdoor shower is available as possible third option but water is cold (several of our guests enjoyed it). A/C unit had trouble keeping the house cooled during the heat spell. Property did have fans that we used.
As the crow flies
This is a lovely property and well appointed. Little things were great--like the quality of the silverware and the towels and what great windows when you want to let in that lovely breeze. The yard and views were stunning. If you are into boating it is quite close to the marina. The only drawback was --yes it is only 15 miles from Napa--but the road is pretty challenging and you have to go 30 mph so it takes a good half hour and you wouldn't want to do it after drinking. Pay attention to the owners info on the driveway as well--also not for the faint of heart. But--our bus driver made it up and down twice with no mishaps.
Our friends had such an excellent stay at the house. It is stunning and the backyard setup with the grill, lawn games, and hammocks makes for a really fun place to hang out. Thank you for allowing us to experience your home for an awesome weekend in wine country!
Beautiful home - perfect for an extended weekend getaway to Lake Berryessa
I stayed here with a group of 12 for a birthday party weekend and there was more than enough space for all of us. The house is even better than the photos -- gorgeous, with fantastic views. We used the grill on the patio and ate outside, which was lovely. I highly recommend laying out in the back yard at night and gazing at the stars -- there is no light pollution and the sky is unbelievable!
As previous reviewers have said, the water does have a strong sulfur smell. Rob did provide us with brita filters and large jugs of water for drinking, which was much appreciated. Also, there is hardly any cell phone service on the property, and we had some trouble connecting to the internet. We were advised to book a shuttle service to take us to a winery, which was great advice and made transportation run smoothly. I would not rely on uber or lyft to take you to or from the property -- best to plan in advance.
Rob was extremely communicative and patient with me, as I had many questions about the contract and payment. He gave me all the information I needed and some I wouldn't have thought to ask for!
Overall, it was a fantastic stay. I would absolutely stay here again.
Since this stay, we've upgraded the wi-fi at the house. Previously there was a low data limit on usage; once that limit is reached the wi-fi previously slowed down significantly. Because of this issue, we've now increased the data limit on our subscription so the slow wi-fi/internet connection will no longer happen. Wi-fi calling is also enabled at the house, so that helps address the weak cell phone signal some carriers have at the house (note that only certain carriers don't work well at the house; others work just fine).
Beautiful property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Sulfur smell to well water should have been part of property description
The sulfur smell in the tap water waxes and wanes, and is only noticeable to some guests. We've implemented a well conditioning regimen that largely addresses the problem. In any case, we provide Alhambra drinking water in 5 gallon jugs for drinking and cooking purposes if the smell is bothersome to guests.
California's Wine Country is a world class wine, food and outdoor recreation destination. Lake Berryessa is a large freshwater lake (over 150 miles of shoreline) located just over an hour north of the San Francisco Bay Area. Boat, kayak, jet ski and fishing equipment rentals are all available. The property itself is secluded and quiet, covering 40 acres with 2.5 miles of private hiking trails. A short drive West puts you in the Napa Valley for renowned wine tasting, restaurants and shopping. Local Napa markets will provide bountiful, local specialty foods if you enjoy cooking yourself. Major shopping outlets for anything you need are within 30 minutes drive.
