About Maria Alberga

My husband and 1 with 3 small children moved to this island in March1978. We instantly recognized it was a heavenly place to live and raise our kids, and it has been a very gratifying experience over the years. Being both working professionals establishing ourselves in a new environment, it was an easy transition as we were welcomed with open arms and assisted in every way by the local community. Being both from other West Indian Islands Cayman was completely different, we have had a wonderful life with the kids growing up in a safe and friendly environment, and meeting all the wonderful people who reside here. I now own a Real Estate Company and continue to serve the island community in any way I can. Blessed now with 10 beautiful grandchildren we happily enjoy each other's company so we enjoy celebrating our lives with them and special friends. I look forward to sharing my knowledge of the island with my guests in any way I can to make their stay a fulfilling experience.

Maria Alberga purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Maria Alberga chose North Side

My whole life I had dreams of owning a special property on the water. One day during my many travels to Cayman Kai I spotted this property behind a hedgerow which I immediately fell in love with, however it was not for sale at that time. One day a couple of weeks after Hurricane Ivan I received a cold call at the office from a gentleman in the States who mentioned that he would like to sell his property, lo and behold it turned out to be the exact property I looked at over the years driving to Cayman Kai. WELL I wasted no time, I moved forward in acquiring the property in 2004 from a delightful elderly couple who shared their special love and life here in Cayman, she was an artist loved by all in North Side and Cayman Kai, and he an Engineer who actually built the home back in 1984, we became instant friends. It was a dream come true and a gift from Heaven, after many months of renovations and changes to the property, clearing the land (the hedgerow went with Ivan) and planting the garden, I was totally pleased with the beauty that was created. It a true testimony that dreams do come true and I wanted nothing but to share this lovely property with friends and family which we have enjoyed fully over the years.... and now all the wonderful guests that I look forward to meeting and having them share a home filled with love....

What makes this cottage unique

One of the many benefits of this property is having the serenity and privacy, having only one neighbor who visits very seldom, gives one the freedom and comfort to enjoy the outdoor spaces without the concern of disturbing others. So much to enjoy outdoors, walks on the beach, snorkeling and diving in a virgin environment filled with beautiful coral and wild life, kayaking when the weather permits, or a game of badminton or other outdoor beach games. The location of this property is also unique in that it is minutes away from Cayman Kai and Queens Highway so it gives one a great choice of restaurants, beaches and other activities for a change of scenery if one desires without driving any great distance. These and other factors made me fall in love with this property, and I have discovered living here for 17 years that the main attraction is the love that permeates in the energy that surrounds this wonderful place I call home, which I am sure will embrace all who chooses come and share a part of their life here in these islands.

Perfect Spot on North Side/Rum Point

  • 5 of 5

If you want to get away to a quieter part of the island with great restaurants, beaches, scuba diving and boat rides; I highly recommend this location. The home is very cozy and sits steps away from the ocean and white sands. Maria was a wonderful host greeting us at the house the day we checked in to give us a tour and a nice welcoming gift. Maria has lived on the island for several years and knows all of the in's and out's. Very functioning kitchen with everything you need. An awesome screened in sun deck and beautiful patio. Book and enjoy a relaxing vacation here!

The picture of the oceanfront deck tells it all.

  • 5 of 5

To echo the other reviews, this is a great location away from the congestion of some other areas on the island. The large deck allows for great lounging and enjoying the view, while the screened in porch provides airy respite when needing a break from the sun. The small kitchen is well-stocked with appliances and utensils, and the availability of nearby restaurants was appreciated when not wanting to cook. The layout of the home provided nice privacy for us and our traveling companions, and the air conditioning works well, if it is desired. The snorkeling right in front of the home is good, and various sea life was seen there, including lobsters and schools of fish. Although we didn't need the provided snorkel gear as we had our own, the inflatable rafts were also nice for more lazy water enjoyment. The housekeeping service during our 2 week stay was a plus. Overall, a very pleasant rental in a lovely spot!

Beautiful home right on the water. Maria went out of her way to accommodate our travel changes.

  • 5 of 5

Due to flight cancellations in our area, we arrived at this beautiful beach home three days late. Fortunately, Maria was able to accommodate us by adjusting our dates. We were greeted with a welcome basket of wine and snacks. The home was everything we could ask for. Spending our days at the beach or snorkeling the reef, then falling asleep to the sounds of the waves, was the perfect escape from our snowy New England weather. I wish I was still there.

Beautiful home! Quiet! Superb snorkeling!

  • 5 of 5

Maria's personal home is lovely, large and spacious! The beach front yard is kept immaculate! An awesome place to stay if you care about being healthy!! Kitchen was well stocked with appliances and dishes & stainless steel pans (could use a stainless fry pan, though). Ask her about the non-toxic environment. No chemical cleaning sprays, etc! She washed the linens in vinegar to remove any detergent residue. Bedding sheets were amazingly soft! I forgot to ask the brand or where they were made! They must not allow all the fabric treatments and chemicals on fabrics here. I noticed even cotton clothing seemed to lack that stiff feel they have at home in the US. 2 large bathrooms with showers but no tub. 1 large master bedroom and 2 med/large bedrooms. Lots of closet, drawer space. Ask how the remotes work for lights and AC. It took us a few days to figure them out :-) Maria had snorkel gear for all 5 of us, life jackets sand toys that went to every beach we visited! The kayaks were not available but it was too windy some days for our family to use kayaks anyway. The beach entry into the water is not easy. The water is not accessible to young children but the beach sand was nice and 15 minutes up the road, withe no traffic, is a perfect beach area for little kids. Entry into the water was fine for us once we figured out how. Swim socks would have been nice. The snorkeling was the best we experienced on the island! The reef is very close (which is also why the rocks are at the water edge) and we saw lots of life in 3-12 feet of water without going very far! We even saw one Nurse Shark sleeping on the bottom. Another really cool thing about the North Side, besides being away from tourists, we met a lot of locals. Maria's house is next to a small boat dock where locals come to fish. The grocery store a 2 minute walk away is locally owned. So nice to support non-corporate business! The house has one neighbor who was there while we were there. Otherwise there are no neighbors. Nice & quiet! Tell Maria North Dakota sent you to her lovely home!

Owner's Response: Hi Dale, Thank you for your lovely review, the Ceramic Pan there is actually a bit healthier than the Stainless Steel so I was happy that you had that choice. However I will take you suggestion and put in a Stainless steel one as well, its just that things tend to stick more on that surface. Happy to say that the kayaks are on the island, so should have them at the property in a couple of days. The entrance to the water is not really difficult, but yes I agree booties might be helpful if you have sensitive feet, as there are some stones......one negative thing about having the reef so close to snorkel, but it is so beautiful there it kinda makes up for the small inconvenience . The Master bath room bath tub combination is so large that many people do not use it as a tub. but one can if they have the time for it to fill :) So happy that you had such a wonderful time and that you met Ernie the fisherman, and you got free fish, how lucky for you....he is a very kind man... and very interesting to talk to about the Cayman of yesteryear....happy you arrived back home safely and it was a joy to have you as my guest.... Kindest regards Maria

Beautiful, peaceful and comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

The house looks just like the pictures, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We were very comfortable and very happy. When we weren't running around the island finding new adventures we were hanging out on the deck. This side of the island is very peaceful and the house is perfectly located. We enjoyed watching the sun come up but my favorite part was turning off the lights at night and relaxing watching the million stars twinkle while listening to the ocean. We were able to snorkel right off the deck and we had a beautiful parrot fish visit us daily. Beach-combing in the morning was great. It was very nice meeting Maria, the owner, she was super friendly just like all of the islanders we encountered. She told us about the island and left us a very nice welcoming basket. There are some great restaurants nearby, the food at Tukkas is outstanding, the appetizers were out of this world. I would highly suggest stopping in, they are located on the east side of the island and across the street is a great little shop that sells souvenirs that are mostly made by islanders. We really enjoyed Chez Inn which is a very unique outside place that had great lobster and grouper among other very different food, it is a BYOB place so make sure you stop at the liquor store first, it is just outside of Bodden. The owner of Chez Inn is very unique as well and we had a great time and lots of laughs there. The house is close to Rum Point which has a lot of great activities and good food. Just down the road from Rum Point is Kaibo's make sure that you make a quick 7:30 am run for freshly bake croissants at least once which were delicious, they sell out extremely quick. We also enjoyed pizza and island drinks there one night. The Cayman Caves are also right up the road which were very interesting and beautiful. We were able to tour the entire island and had a wonderful time. I wish we would of scheduled one entire day to just hang out at the house and next time we will! We all definitely enjoyed the house, it was peaceful and relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle of the 7 mile beach area although it was fun to visit that area too. I would highly recommend renting this property, you won't be disappointed. Thank you, Maria, we couldn't of asked for a better place to rent!

Fabulous vacation at Sea Loft right on the water on the quiet side of Cayman

  • 5 of 5

This house totally exceeded expectations. Every room has a water view, and listening to the wind and waves was soothing and wonderful. The house is beautifully decorated with warm colors and the kitchen worked well. We cooked most of our meals. The master bath is newly renovated with a water view in the shower. The internet was fine. There is a big table on the screened porch, great for games. The location is very good, about 10 minutes drive to Rum Point beach (which we loved) and a little more the other direction to the grocery/liquor store/restaurants in East End. We liked Tukka If you want to get to 7 mile beach or West Bay, it is quite feasible with a bit of a drive, but after the first week we were happy to hang out here. The owner went out of her way to make the vacation enjoyable for us, with welcome treats and a bioluminescence water trip at the end of the stay!

Owner's Response: Dear Andrew, Thank you so much for your lovely review of my property, it was indeed a pleasure meeting you and your family and I am so happy that your stay at Sea Loft fulfilled all of your expectations, and that you were able to feel at home away from home, and utilize all the home had to offer. After such an arduous day yesterday waiting for your flight, it was a pleasure allowing you the comfort of staying at the Villa the extra time needed instead of stressful hours at the airport. Arriving home around 4.00am in the cold is never a pleasant experience, it must have been exhausting for you,but I am happy that you and the family made it back home safely Thanks again for staying at Sea Loft it was a real pleasure meeting you and your family. One of the most interesting tour in the area is the kayak tour at night to see the sparkling waters, you can row yourself in tandem with the other kayaks or you can go on the electric boat who has someone narrating about the tour and the eco system of the waterways. Great for the whole family. Reservations are required.

The underground Crystal Caves 3 mins away is also a great family outing, the caves are all lit and the mobile train is open air allowing for great picture taking...a must see for the family. Reservations necessary.

The Mastic Trail which is an interior trail is also great for hikers who enjoy walking through an eco system forest.Must have a guide as one can get lost in this interior environment.
