This lovely and well-equipped 3 bedroom apartment boasts 2 terraces from which you can enjoy the beautiful views over the mountain sierra while you dine outside. Its location offers the best of both worlds, as you are only 5 mins walk away from the town centre with all its restaurants, cafes, shops and local amenities; and 5 mins walk away from the woods and mountains. The apartment is on the top floor of a four storey building. There is off-street parking outside the building and the flat is on a quiet residential road. There is no swimming pool as such with the apartment, but there are two great public swimming pools in San Lorenzo de el Escorial: one is the sports' centre with an indoor pool and two outdoor ones (large one and toddler pool), and the other is the one at the golf course. The neighbours are all locals and very welcoming. Please note that there is no lift in the building.

Beautiful City

San Lorenzo was a beautiful town and a great location. We were centrally located to be able to visit Madrid, Segovia, Avila, and Toledo, as well as San Lorenzo. It was fun to just walk around the city and El Escorial was great to visit. The apartment was roomy and comfortable. We did have some communication difficulties before our arrival and we thought we would have Wi-Fi, but we didn't, which made things a little difficult and costly because we were driving and my husband was looking up driving direction at night, which he couldn't do without internet. My phone was set up for international use, but cost us $10 a day to use. We did get refunded a portion by the owner because the place had been listed a having Wi-Fi. The listing has been updated now, but just be aware that there is no internet. There was no soap for the dishwasher and no way to stop the kitchen sink, so washing dishes was difficult. I also couldn't find a hair dryer and there was no outlet by a mirror, so I couldn't do my hair. None of these were huge things, but it did kind of make our stay a little more difficult. I would probably give the rental a 3 1/2 star rating if I could.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, and I'm glad you enjoyed your time in San Lorenzo. Apologies again for the lack of internet. We did use to offer a pay-as-you-go internet connection, which the guests would have to pay themselves to use, but guests used to find it frustrating, as the charge imposed by Vodafone of 20 euros for 2 GB of data didn't seem to last very long. We decided to discontinue this service recently, as the value for money wasn't acceptable. I hadn't realized that I hadn't updated the advert, but it's now up to date to show there is no internet on offer. You will find that even with the $10 a day you had to pay to use your own mobile internet, the cost will have been covered with the 20 euros I refunded you, as you would have had to pay 20 euros anyway to use the pay-as-you-go internet (which was never included in the price originally in the advert). So in fact, for the 3 nights you were there, the $10 a day charge was 10 euros cheaper than if you had used the pay-as-you-go connection, taking into consideration the 20 euros refund. In relation to the hairdryer, I had to get the cleaner to check, as I thought perhaps they had been stolen! But the 2 hairdryers are still there fortunately. They're kept in the top smaller drawer of the chest of drawers in the main bedroom. There is also a plug socket near enough to the mirrors in the bathroom, 2 bedrooms and living room that can be used to dry your hair. There is a plate rack under the kitchen sink that can be used to dry the dishes if hand washing them. We just put a tea-towel under it that soaks the water drips. It's a fair point about the dishwasher tablets, so in the future we will leave some out for guests, as it's not worth you buying a whole pack of dishwasher tablets if you're only staying a few nights. Thank you for leaving the apartment in good order when you left, and for being respectful guests. It is much appreciated. Please accept my apologies for those issues that may have made your stay less enjoyable.

Swifts, Mountains and a Monastery just 'round the corner ...

We started our Spain sojourn here, staying for 7 days. It had ample room for a family of four and all the amenities required for a pleasant stay. The two balconies on either side ensured sun followers in the family were catered for as well. Everything required was close at hand (shops, cafes/restaurants) and there was a frequent bus service to Madrid that took away the need of a car.

The booking process and communication with Elisabet before and during our stay had been clear and concise resulting in a calm and relaxing week.

A peaceful lovely flat near everything.

My family and I just want to recomend this flat to everyone who wants to be in an extremelly pleasant, lovely and peaceful village... just half an hour away from Madrid, just one hour away from Segovia...; so, if you don't want to miss a thing about a big and interesting city like Madrid, but don't want to melt into crowds of people, just get in touch with Liz, and just enjoy her hospitality!!!

Tres agréable découverte....

Situé idéalement a deux pas du coeur de ville et du monestère, cet appartemtnt bien équipé et pourvu de 2 terrasses rst tres agréable. Les attentions des propriétaires qui donnent des pistes sur ce qu'il faut découvrir est un plus. L'impression d'etre en visite chez des amis laisse un souvenir de vacances réussies. Le coeur de l'Espagne est tout simplement fabuleux. Seul bémol...Les toilettes sont dans la douche, pas toujours facile le matin, mais enfin, ce sont de belles vacances! Merci à Elisebet, toijours aimable, disponible et réactive.

A place to return

A cosy and comfortable flat makes a perfect base for sightseeing especially if you have a car. Communication with the landlord was excellent and she provides detailed information on what to do and see. We found diverse attractions and activities and had a handful of destinations for amazing daytrips. Location close to the town centre facilitates straightforward provision and proves helpful if you are fed up with driving. We could have stayed longer (one can stay there for a month without getting bored) but it is prudent to leave something for another visit. If you have no issues with stairs and hilly streets this is definitely a place worth consideration.

A perfect retreat for art and nature

The apartment is situated towards the top of the village of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, giving stunning views over the hills and the plain below; perfect for mornings on the balcony. We chose the area as it combined the possibility of visits to Madrid, Avila, Segovia etc. with the proximity of areas of natural beauty offering relaxing walks and picnic opportunities. We were very pleasantly surprised with the town - peaceful squares, ample eating establishments and friendly locals, and totally blown away by the monastery/palace with its stupendous art collection and architecture. Anyone interested in art and nature will be spoilt here and love the comfortable, well appointed apartment which we found perfect for our needs. A real 'home away from home' feel with none of the starkness and lack of personality of a hotel room; all requests for information or help were met promptly and efficiently and the apartment is very well equipped. We would love to visit again.

San Lorenzo de el Escorial is at the heart of Madrid's mountain sierra, and is only 50 km away from the capital. It is a UNESCO protected town famous throughout Spain for its architectonic and historical heritage, and its natural beautiful setting. Places of historical interest are: the Monastery, Valle de los Caídos, and the town centre itself. For the nature lover, there are plenty of mountain walks, a nature centre and an animal sanctuary nearby.There is a wide range of restaurants, street cafes and bars that serve excellent food and wine. It also offers all the local amenities you may need. There are excellent and frequent (every 10-30 mins) bus and rail services that connect San Lorenzo to Madrid in 50 mins for 3.50€.

It's an ideal base to explore the historical cities in the centre of the peninsula, such as Segovia, Avila, Toledo or Salamanca, and the different tourist attractions of the Guadarrama mountain range, La Granja of San Ildefonso, the Navacerrada Ski Resort, etc.
