Charming, Deceptively Spacious Original Fisherman's Cottage with private Pool

Bedrooms 4
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 5 nights

Minimum Stay
5 nights

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday cottage in Crystal Beach - Beach Cottage

Renovated 4 bedroom Fisherman's Cottage across from Gulf of Mexico

This is an original 1915 Fisherman's Cottage that has been tastefully extended and renovated to provide all the modern comforts but retain it's old world charm with many original features including the wood floors, cabinetry, beamed ceiling and knob & tube wiring (for show only you will be pleased to read). The original front door leads directly into a spacious living area and from there into the large dining area and kitchen. The huge master bedroom with ensuite bathroom is located at the back of the cottage and gives direct access to the pool area. There is a spare bedroom off the master. The two remaining bedrooms share a separate bathroom with tub & shower. Located in Crystal Beach, originally a fishing village developed in 1912, this area has remained unspoiled and has been compared to Key West with it's feel and charm of a seaside community. Enjoy the park setting & shell pathway fish from the pier or visit nearby Honeymoon Island & take a ferry to nearby Caladesi Island.

Local Restaurants: There are lots of great restaurants all within a five minute car ride of the villa. The Thirsty Marlin in Palm Harbor, Molly Goodheads in Ozona & Rusty Bellies waterfront in Tarpon Springs are just three to mention. Great steaks and seafood served in a laid back atmosphere where shorts and a t shirt are considered formal wear. You can eat out at different restaurants for fourteen nights straight and never go to a bad one. Bon Appetit.

Local Beaches: Crystal beach, sunset beach and Howard state park beach all host live music most Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings to accompany the sunsets. Drive over the causeway to Honeymoon island and walk the beach for miles up to the pass overlooking Three Rooker bar-a deserted sandbar popular with local boaters and dolphins. Catch the ferry from Honeymoon island to Caladesi state park with it's award winning beach. There are wildlife walks round the island where you can come across armadillos, racoons, giant tortoises and signs that say 'beware of rattlesnakes'' or, if you go through the week you can be a castaway with the beach to yourself. All these beaches are very close to the villa but away from the main tourist area, easily accessible and with great facilities. There's a beach here for everyone and they all share the same crystal clear warm waters of the gulf.

Enjoying the Cottage: A lot of our guests are happy to chill out after a hectic week in Orlando. The back garden is a sun trap, great for topping up that tan and when it gets too hot you can slip into the pool then sit under the palms sipping on chilled white wine or a frosty beer out of the fridge. It is very quiet and peaceful except for the hum of the occasional golf cart that is the preferred mode of transport for the locals. You can watch the ospreys heading back from the gulf with their next meal still wriggling in their talons, hand feed the resident egret with cold hot dogs, once he gets to know you and occasionally stroll down to the beach and watch the fish leaping as the giant pelicans glide by. Its not compulsory but cocktails on the beach at sunset confers on you the title of 'local' for the duration of your stay. Cheers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Really enjoyable 10 days or so. The house is lovely-we had a minor glitch with the a/c that was fixed straight away. CVS & Publix are just up the road, the sunsets are spectacular and we can vouch for Honeymoon Island, Clearwater Beach and the Pinellas Trail with a park for the kids. Emily's for breakfast is also good. This was our 10th visit to different parts of Florida and we'll happily recommend this to anyone

Kevin and Sheila, thank you SOOOO much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home! This was our first time renting a home for vacation and they made the process so easy! The home was so welcoming and charming! We really enjoyed our stay there. Loved having the pool! The binder that was left with instructions was the best. It listed local places to eat which we took advantage of and loved the restaurants! I would recommend this home to anyone looking to stay in Palm Harbor. The home is centrally located so no matter which way we went, it was not a far drive. Again, thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful home! God Bless!

A beautiful Crystal beach home

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from a wonderful week at the Fishermans Cottage.

After many vacations in the area over the years, this is far the best and most enjoyable.

The decor, amenities, pool and overall comfort factor made this an excellent choice.

The area is a friendly, peaceful neighborhood and suitable for all ages, our party ranged from 2 to 72 and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We appreciate the hard work and thoughtfulness that Kevin and Sheila have put in to provide a beautiful, quality, holiday home. Thank you

Fantastic Vacation Spot for Young Families

  • 5 of 5

We shared this rental property with another family recently and what a LOVELY spot. It was very clean, bright and cozy and well outfitted with all the essentials (lots of kitchen goodies like grill, blender, good knives, etc.., lots of linens and towels). The surrounding neighbors were so kind and welcoming. In fact, everywhere we went the people were so friendly and helpful! We were amazed at how quaint and quiet it was even though the Alt 19 was less than 1/2 a mile away. Everything we needed was close by (grocery store, pharmacy, liquor store, bait shop...) and the pier was put to good use with a daily fishing trip. Our crew had 4 children ages 4 and under...so having our own pool, BBQ and kitchen was perfect! The kids could play hard during the day and after an early bedtime the adults could all sit outside and enjoy drinks and dinner by the pool. The grounds are well kept and the overall decor and style of the cottage was modern yet just the right touch of traditional. Lots of room for 8 people. There are also many great beaches and activities close by (we especially enjoyed Clearwater Beach, Howard Park and the Kiwanis Sprayground!) and of course, Rusty Bellies Crab Cakes are not to be missed! We are already planning our trip for next year. Thank you Kevin and Sheila!

Our Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second vacation to this home and we have now booked a 3rd stay in 2016. The owners Kevin and Sheila have made this truly feel like the home you wished you had, and having the beach so close by is just an added bonus. The pictures do it justice, it really is that nice! On each visit there we have found the home to be meticulously clean, every surface dusted and gleaming, and the owners approachable and available for anything that might pop up. On our first visit there, once it was discovered we were travelling with children, they dropped by one day with an armload of more pool toys for them to enjoy. The small enclave of Crystal Beach is a real hidden gem and close to everything you could think of to do. For fans of the Toronto Blue Jays, Dunedin is just a short 10 minute drive away, if the Jays aren't your thing, the shops there are quaint and the restaurants many. 10 Minutes north is Tarpon Springs, my favorite place to spend a day exploring or enjoying a meal in one of the many Greek restaurants. Disney is 90 minutes away and is an uncomplicated drive. Some of the best beaches in America are within a sort drive and include Calidisi and Clearwater. I would highly recommend this home and the owners and we are counting down the days until we return.

Real Florida Living

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to experience a slice of real Florida living and fortunately for us this was the perfect choice. The locals are so friendly and within a day or two we really felt part of the community. One of the neighbours told us that the house is one of the original Crystal Beach homes and somewhat famous in the area so I guess we were grandfathered in!! I'm sure they must have had a professional do the interior décor because it matches the house perfectly and makes you feel right at home. All the bedrooms are lovely but if you go as two families like we did, and there is plenty of room, make sure to bag the master bedroom. It is VERY spacious and opens directly onto the pool. We felt very relaxed the week we spent there because it was like home from home, so well equipped with everything we needed including a fishing pier at the end of the street that my husband made good use of.

Owner's Response: Crystal Beach is a very special location that gives our guests the opportunity to experience all the great tourist attractions in the area while staying in an "old" Florida setting. It is this unique combination that makes the place so popular

Perfect for families

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from staying at this property and have nothing but wonderful things to report. The owner, Kevin, could not have been more helpful. First the home was beautiful, an older home very well decorated and renovated. We loved the cottage look, the quiet neighborhood, and of course having the pool. The kitchen was well stocked, everything you should need. Even the pool toys were available for the kids. Directly down the road is a dock for fishing or watching sunsets. The people in the neighborhood were so friendly and helpful giving restaurant suggestions and ideas of things to do. We've rented through this site many times and I'm pleased to say this home was one of our best choices.

Our villa is situated on a quiet shady lane exactly 150 yards from the small, sandy public beach and community pier. This is a self contained area of real Florida where everybody says hello and the locals drive around on golf carts. The beauty of it is that you can easily trade the peace and tranquility of your own private pool for the razz matazz of more conventional holiday destinations like Clearwater Beach a twenty minute drive away or the wild rides at Disney and Busch Gardens ninety minutes away. Whatever you feel like doing, there is something here for all ages.
