About Steve powell

Great memories should be shared! Steve and Joy Powell believe that children are the future and nothing is more important than giving children a solid foundation and making memories that last a lifetime. It is their vision to give others a beautiful relaxed setting to make memories with those they care about.

Why Steve powell chose Asheville Area

We experience 4 seasons that offer an array of activities all year round. Guest will be in close proximity to skiing, golfing, rafting, tubing, zip-lines, National Forest, orchards, horseback riding, The Biltmore Estate, Western NC Nature Center, Dollywood, Gray Fossil Museum, Christmas tree farms, natural hot springs, gem mining as well as every luxury a city offers; shopping, dining, theaters. The lodges are well planned to allow privacy and safety. There is plenty of driveway parking and there are no steep drops or stilts like most mountain cabins.

What makes this lodge unique

The owners, Steve and Joy Powell, live on Memory Mountain and offer tours of their farm to interested guest, however appointments must be made in advance. Their farm features rabbits, range chickens, pheasants, quail, egg gathering, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, apple/peach/pear trees. Their Antique Museum has the largest arrowhead collection in the Southeast. You may view depression glass, farm equipment and neat historical mountain finds. Arrowhead hunts may also be coordinated with your scheduled visit.

The lodges feature many unique charms such as wormy chestnut logs and wood, arrowheads found on the grounds, nooks for children to explore, private outdoor fire pits and plenty of gathering space indoors and out. A great deal of time has been spent collecting local reclaimed wood to build Memory Mountains' cabins and it shows.

A very special place~!

  • 5 of 5

Once you step foot on the property- you will feel it. Memory Mountain was built with love... and it surrounds you in a feeling of family. Our children were swimming in the pond, skipping rocks, and singing together by the campfire.

We had our wedding ceremony in the gazebo, with family gathered around in the vintage benches and on blankets on the hillside.

We stayed in the cabins for the week, and having a place where ceremony was 10 feet from reception, and no one had to drive or entertain themselves in between or worry about anything.... was priceless.

Steve and Joy were very helpful and sweet.

The lodges were super clean, comfortable, and allowed us all space to get to know each other... and to have time to ourselves when needed too!

A great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 13 enjoyed the Waterfall cabin on Memory Mountain. It was spacious, well kept, and a great home away from home. Our son's family of 6 and daughter's family of 5 , were able to enjoy time together and the beautiful location as we made memories together. When I asked each family member what they liked best about the week, their responses included: Lobo, the tame wolf, the hot tub, the big house, time with cousins, fishing, no phones, Mr. Powell and his kindness, the family atmosphere on the whole mountain, and the blessings of enjoying family and God's creation. It is a perfect cabin for mulit-generation family gatherings. The kitchen is very adequate, bathrooms updated, the big dining table allowed us to eat together, and the view as we listened to waterfalls was relaxing. We highly recommend renting on Memory Mountain!

A great home away from home

  • 5 of 5

My family rented this cabin from Steve and Joy to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We had four sets of families staying here and had plenty of room. Steve and Joy came and introduced themselves and welcomed us shortly after we arrived. Steve was very easy to get in touch with and even emailed me to let me know we could check in early! The cabin had plenty of amenities for us to enjoy. A family of ducks visited us numerous times throughout the day and we had a great time fishing in the pond! Lobo (and his girlfriend!) came and visited us too and was gentle and fun to play with. There is a beautiful chapel they have and we visited it several times throughout our stay. This cabin is a great place to go to get away; it was so relaxing. We did a lot of sightseeing on our trip, visiting places my parents went 50 years ago, but every night when we got back, we would sit out on one of the porches and enjoy the night. Steve and Joy are an awesome couple and I've recommended their cabin to several friends!

Rustic wonderland

  • 5 of 5

Steve & Joy,

Thank you so much for your hospitality! My now husband, our family, and friends all had an excellent stay at Memory Mountain. The chapel made for the perfect location for our ceremony; it was quaint, accommodated 30 guests very comfortably, and a beautiful structure with a beautiful purpose. At the reception we had several guests jump into the pond for a swim, the dogs were swimming, music and laughs filled the air (along with the smell of Luella's delicious BBQ). We had great fun! I also loved that there were no time constraints to wrap everything up by 11 like many venues so the party lasted into the wee hours of the night. The grounds were gorgeous, many people said it looked like a dreamy rustic wedding when viewing photos. We hope to return again to celebrate our love and relive the memories for years to come!

Thank you,

The Galt's <3

Great property, beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our wedding at Memory Mountain was amazing!! The area is stunning and Steve and Joy are an absolute pleasure to work with! If you are looking for a unique area to host your next event, I would say you found it.

The cabin and property were perfect for what we needed. The cabin had more than enough room (6 adults and 5 kids). The kitchen has about every utensil you could need for cooking which is convenient. Everything there was clean and taken care of. Highly recommended.

"Memory Mtn" says it all! A wonderful family experience

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have imagined a more perfect setting for our daughter's wedding. Steve, Joy, and yes, even Lobo, welcomed us as though we were Family. The Waterfall lodge as well as the social barn provided the perfect rustic feel balanced against well-thought out comfort amenities. It is easy to tell that Steve and Joy pour their hearts into their property and meeting the needs of those who visit. Upon our arrival to begin setting up for the wedding, Steve and team immediately jumped in to assist with every last detail and provide thoughtful recommendations wherever needed. The lodge was clean and well-maintained. The balance of such a beautiful setting and a loving owner-team provided a relaxed atmosphere that quickly defused any pre-wedding anxieties and allowed the joining of two families in an amazing wedding event. Thank you so much Steve, Joy, and Lobo! You truly provided a memorable experience and we feel blessed to have met you all. Hope to travel back for perhaps vacation next time!
