Great memories should be shared! Steve and Joy Powell believe that children are the future and nothing is more important than giving children a solid foundation and making memories that last a lifetime. It is their vision to give others a beautiful relaxed setting to make memories with those they care about.
Steve powell purchased this lodge in 2010
We experience 4 seasons that offer an array of activities all year round. Guest will be in close proximity to skiing, golfing, rafting, tubing, zip-lines, National Forest, orchards, horseback riding, The Biltmore Estate, Western NC Nature Center, Dollywood, Gray Fossil Museum, Christmas tree farms, natural hot springs, gem mining as well as every luxury a city offers; shopping, dining, theaters. The lodges are well planned to allow privacy and safety. There is plenty of driveway parking and there are no steep drops or stilts like most mountain cabins.
The owners, Steve and Joy Powell, live on Memory Mountain and offer tours of their farm to interested guest, however appointments must be made in advance. Their farm features rabbits, range chickens, pheasants, quail, egg gathering, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, apple/peach/pear trees. Their Antique Museum has the largest arrowhead collection in the Southeast. You may view depression glass, farm equipment and neat historical mountain finds. Arrowhead hunts may also be coordinated with your scheduled visit.
The lodges feature many unique charms such as wormy chestnut logs and wood, arrowheads found on the grounds, nooks for children to explore, private outdoor fire pits and plenty of gathering space indoors and out. A great deal of time has been spent collecting local reclaimed wood to build Memory Mountains' cabins and it shows.
Myself and (9) other gentlemen from PA rented the Waterfall Lodge last weekend and had an incredible time. Steve, the owner, and Lobo, his pet wolf, greeted our party as we arrived and set the tone for the entire trip with their fascinating life stories and background. The house is beautiful and offers more than enough room for a party larger than ours. We traveled a long way to experience the mountains in Asheville, but will most definitely return for the overwhelming hospitality offered by the owners.
We HIGHLY recommend staying in one of Steve and Joy's homes. They are huge, beautiful mountain cabins. The hospitality can't be beat. Our kids loved exploring in the woods, meeting Lobo the pet wolf, checking out Steve 's museum, etc.
Steve and Joy's homes created a great opportunity to get away and experience God. We highly recommend their homes for church groups to get away together for a retreat or just a fun time away together.
Steve was a gracious host and extremely attentive! He even let our kids play with Lobo, their pet wolf! Accommodations were just what we were looking for-comfy and spacious, with plenty of outdoors to explore! Came up with several family friends for a ski weekend and definitely plan to come back!
We were looking for a cabin rental for a long weekend that was close to skiing and tubing for the little ones. We didn't want to drive far because we had babies that had to go back for naps and we wanted the flexibility to come and go to our activities. The Waterfall cabin was the perfect rental! It had everything we needed as far as a cabin feel with everything nearby. The small gas station near the exit surprisingly had a lot of things, we found everything we needed there that we forgot. I would call it more of a convenience store.
The skiing was nice, it was a cute little resort and lodge that was perfect for first-timers and the kids. The tubing was small and quaint but we didn't need anything fancy. Both were only minutes away.
The best part of it all was coming home to our perfect cabin, it was spacious and held our two families perfectly, it could have easily held many more people! The set-up was great, the decor and real wood really gave it that cozy feel, and the fireplace and hot tub was the perfect relaxing way to end the day. The kids absolutely loved exploring the lake, and many times thought it was so cool for Bobo to accompany their hikes. The views are amazing...we cooked in the kitchen while watching the kids play outside in the mountain and lake scenery, and we were all able to eat together at the large table. If the weather was a little nicer we would have eaten outside on the large deck with dining table.
Lastly, when I rent, I feel it's just as important to rent from good property owners as you never know what to expect or what you will need when you get there. Not only is Steve responsive and accommodating, he is one of the nicest people you will meet and he has a great story as to how Memory Mountain came to be. He truly wants his guests to enjoy their stay and we will absolutely rent from him again.
The Powell family is extremely hospitable. The house was immaculate and there is so much to do in the nearby area. From The Biltmore Estates, great restaurants, Skiing, Tubing, or just sitting by the campfire...We did it all. (And Lobo the family Arctic wolf is so friendly, he hung out with us too!)
We enjoyed our stay at Waterfall Lodge. The cabin was big enough for everyone in our group and very clean. It was supplied with everything that we needed as if we were at home. Mr. Steve came by one morning with Lobo and the kids really enjoyed that experience. Mr. Steve and Ms.Joy are the kind of host that you would want when renting a place. Everyone in our group enjoyed themselves. It's an awesome cabin!
