Great memories should be shared! Steve and Joy Powell believe that children are the future and nothing is more important than giving children a solid foundation and making memories that last a lifetime. It is their vision to give others a beautiful relaxed setting to make memories with those they care about.
Steve powell purchased this lodge in 2010
We experience 4 seasons that offer an array of activities all year round. Guest will be in close proximity to skiing, golfing, rafting, tubing, zip-lines, National Forest, orchards, horseback riding, The Biltmore Estate, Western NC Nature Center, Dollywood, Gray Fossil Museum, Christmas tree farms, natural hot springs, gem mining as well as every luxury a city offers; shopping, dining, theaters. The lodges are well planned to allow privacy and safety. There is plenty of driveway parking and there are no steep drops or stilts like most mountain cabins.
The owners, Steve and Joy Powell, live on Memory Mountain and offer tours of their farm to interested guest, however appointments must be made in advance. Their farm features rabbits, range chickens, pheasants, quail, egg gathering, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, apple/peach/pear trees. Their Antique Museum has the largest arrowhead collection in the Southeast. You may view depression glass, farm equipment and neat historical mountain finds. Arrowhead hunts may also be coordinated with your scheduled visit.
The lodges feature many unique charms such as wormy chestnut logs and wood, arrowheads found on the grounds, nooks for children to explore, private outdoor fire pits and plenty of gathering space indoors and out. A great deal of time has been spent collecting local reclaimed wood to build Memory Mountains' cabins and it shows.
We loved being there with our family and friends! We had an awesome long weekend getaway and would love to come back soon!
This cabin was the perfect place for our wedding rehearsal and weekend retreat with our family and friends.
We had a group of twelve adults stay at Memory Mountain's Waterfall Lodge over a long weekend, and were very pleased. The owner, Steve, went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. There was plenty of wood for the fire circle by the pond right outside our door, lots of fish in the catch & release ponds (to the enjoyment of many) and covered porches that wrapped around most of the second floor to allow for comfortable visiting at any time of day. We also got to meet Lobo, Steve & Joy's rehabilitated wolf, who wanders the grounds and greets most guests. Lobo even stopped by one afternoon by himself for a photo opp (to the delight of most and horror of one). Lobo was a perfect gentleman and won over everyone's heart.
There were three bedrooms on the third floor, along with two full baths, a bath with shower on the main floor, and two bedrooms and one full bath on the ground level. Twelve adults fit well (four slept in the third floor master, which had a king bed and bunk bed), and you could fit extra younger kids in easily in the hide away third floor loft or on the futon in one ground level bedroom.
One note to consider is there are eleven (I believe) lodges on the property, which are all accessed by a road which splits below Waterfall Lodge. Memory Mountain was fully booked while we were there, as a wedding was conducted on the grounds (beautiful site), but because of this, there was quite a bit of traffic. If we stayed again, I would consider looking at lodges further back on the property.
Hosted extended family in the Waterfall House for a relaxed wedding weekend, including guests aged 16 months to 85. House was perfect with independent areas for quiet, private rest for sleeping, easy grouping of sleeping areas for individual families, spots for active socialization and eating, and busy toddler activity areas that allowed restricted open play. Kitchen was generous and functional, hot tub and grill were useful. Bathrooms were plenty.
Outside, the environs are beautiful, and other nearby properties on site are equally beautiful and accommodating.
Our warm host and property owner, Steve Powell, was always available and very helpful.
We are coming back!
Waterfall cabin is spacious, comfortable, and well equipped for a family vacation that included 3 generations. This was our best family vacation thanks to Steve's hospitality and beautiful property. There are many different areas in the home to play games, read, paint, or nap. We enjoyed meeting Lobo the wolf, having campfires, and relaxing in the hot tub. TV was not turned on once during our week here. Lots of time was spent fishing in the stocked ponds, relaxing on the porches, and hiking on the property to enjoy the panorama of God's creation. It would be impossible to stay here and not recognize the loving, majestic presence of our creator. This location is far away from city life, yet close enough to make day trips to lakes, waterfalls, and mountains.
My family and I had a wonderful time staying on memory mountain. Steve and Joy (the owners) have an amazing thing going here on the mountain. This home is cozy and beautiful, the ponds are stocked for fishing, there is a larger pond to swim in, a place to make a campfire. Steve and Joy are two of the kindest people you will meet. They invited our 4 childen to pick eggs from their chicken coop every morning for a fresh egg breakfast. Lobo, their wolf/dog, came to greet us every day and the children (and me) LOVED Lobo. There is a beautiful chapel that Steve built that sits near a running stream, we took time out to go sit in the chapel and it is truly a place of peace. The fresh mountain air is just what our family needed and this place is a perfect relaxing getaway. We will be back, no doubt about it. This is a place to make memories. We feel blessed that we met Steve, Joy, and Lobo. Below are the reviews from our children!
"What I liked about this trip. Steve let me ride his 4-wheeler, it was fun. I liked picking out my eggs every morning from the chicken coop. I loved swimming in the pond. My dad made a fire everynight for us to make smores over." ~K. age 9
"On my trip to memory mountain I met Mr. Steve and he was really nice. I loved the antique museum he had, he took me into his museum to show me his arrowhead collection. We played on the pond on big rafts with paddles, I fished and caught tons of bass, bluegill, and crappy. I had an amazing time on the mountain with my family." ~B. age 13
"I loved Lobo and Mr. Steve" ~J. age 4
"I liked meeting Mr. Steve and Lobo, I liked playing on the rafts on the pond. Mr. Steve took us around to find the best black berries that my mom used for pancakes. I had a fun time." ~G age 7
