About Dan Bready
We have enjoyed this home for the last 20 years. We were also friends of the previous owners, The Hanes Family (Hanes Underwear). This is just the most perfect place for my extended family and my family of choice to come for the summer. And it's funny, when everyone comes to Camp To-No-Na we all usually end up staying right there- at Camp and the lake for the whole time!! We love to fish and spend as much time on the water as possible! The locks (two) let us enjoy over 25 miles of waterways. I have great secret spots for the fisher person in your group which I will be happy to share, and our dock is a favorite with the kids and will keep them happy ( and busy) with tons of fish!!
Dan Bready purchased this Estate in 2001
Why Dan Bready chose Saranac Lake
We really appreciate and love the Adirondacks, and we were very lucky to have the opportunity to purchase this very rare waterfront property- especially one with sunsets!!! We are just behind Trudeau Institute ( world renowned) and love that they are such great neighbors. And we love to spend all of our time on the water, fishing, skiing, kayaking, and just relaxing near the lake! We have approx. 5700+ SF under roof and love the spacious layout for privacy if wanted, and for large gatherings in the Kitchen, Family room and of course the Great Room!
What makes this Estate unique
The size of this home is a great attribute ( 5700+) under roof and the fact that it really is a fine example of the craftsmanship of the era- and still is! We have been very careful not to over renovate or change the character of the home. The walls are all original woodwork, the kitchen and the baths still have the original feel of the era, but with great updates! Love it!! We often gather in the very large screened in Porch overlooking the lake and enjoy the breezes that come with our great location with sunsets. The screened in porch has a great couch swing, rocking chairs, and lots of cozy furniture with comfortable blankets for that chill evening we love... We also have two marina's on our lake. They rent all types of boats for the day or week. We supply 3 kayaks, a canoe, and a rowboat. Pontoon boats are very popular here and you can rent them on our lake or one of the connecting lakes in town. We often take our boat into town via the locks for lunch or for the Saturday open air market- loads of fun!!!

Perfect for a large family and everything we needed was there. What we loved the most was that lake
This property was one of the best - top 3 that we have stayed in over the last 10 years. There was plenty of room for a large group and we felt like we could truly relax in this home. The lake was beautiful and the convenience of the marina right around the corner was great. We had a wonderful time here and would definitely consider returning.
Huge and well-appointed cabin by the lake
Our family loved this property. Rustic but charming as h*ll, and has everything you need for a mountain lake vacation.
Camp To-No-Na is a step back in time to the great camps of the Adirondacks. Our family had a wonderful week. Lower Saranac Lake was definitely the best lake we’ve experienced after many years in vacationing in the ADK. The lake is large enough for water sports and offers great fishing, but was also very quiet. Boat rides through the channels and locks to Oseetah Lake and Middle Saranac Lake were great fun. The kids enjoyed swimming off the dock, paddle boards, canoes and kayaks. We rented a pontoon boat from Saranac Lake Marina just around the bend (highly recommend). The home offers plenty of space to gather for meals in the kitchen or for games in the living room. Nights were spent around the fire pit with s’mores and laughs. Even with our large group there were bedrooms for everyone and the kids had a blast in the bunk rooms. The owners have made every effort to keep the home period perfect and Dan was incredibly responsive. The only limitations here are the smaller backyard (no lawn) and 2 showers (one is outdoor with a great view of the lake!). Regardless, our family had an amazing week at To-No-Na. The home takes you back in time and the lake was our favorite setting in the ADK.
We had a great time, house is large enough for a large group and we enjoyed being right on the lake. A full week of swimming, tubing, camp fires and games - our families enjoyed the entire week!
Beautiful Lake Front Home
The property has a great deal of history. The inside is a "walk-through time". Our older children and small grandchildren founded their own niche in this wonderful building and the surrounding water front. From shuffle board to fishing off the dock, everyone had an enjoyable time.
Thanks Bruce- glad you had as much fun as we do at Camp To no na! And, thank you for leaving our place in such great condition- it was a pleasure having you all!!
Beautiful Setting on Lake Saranac - Great for large gatherings
Our family makes a point to gather together annually for a week of shared vacation on waterfront property and this setting was very nice and accommodated three generations very well. The home is very old with lots of history and maintains its original charm. There was plenty of separate spaces for us to do our own thing if needed both indoor and outdoor. While there is no grassy area for us to play outdoor games, it was made up with a very nice dock to sit and soak up the sun or swim from; campfire area between the home and waterfront area with plenty of chairs provided and firewood provided; spacious screened in porch overlooking the lake; outdoor deck and very large indoor great room including a well-maintained shuffleboard. Get ready for breathtaking sunsets.
If you don't like taking baths, be prepared for only two showers (one indoor and one outdoor). Amazingly, while the family originally thought this would be an inconvenience, everyone used the outdoor shower as they loved the experience.
There are 9 bedrooms all on the second floor: BR1-one king, BR2-one twin, BR3- one twin, BR4-two twins, BR5-three twins, BR6- two twins + 1 crib, BR7- one bunk (full bottom – twin top), BR8 Bunk (full bottom – twin top), BR9- two twins. There is one bathroom on the main floor (off the kitchen) and 4 bathrooms upstairs (one of them is private for the master king bedroom).
The camp is fully stocked and no need to bring anything other than consumables. The kitchen is very functional, equipped with a nice 8 burner / double oven gas stove, two dishwashers and two refrigerators. There is also two clothes washers and two clothes dryers in the adjoining room.
We enjoyed using the kayaks and canoe (bring your own paddles for canoe if you plan on using it often as the ones provided are too short).
If you bring your own boat, there is a nice dock to accommodate up to a 20 ft. boat. There is a very nice state-run launch at the bridge (outside of town), which is about a 10-minute boat ride from the camp. The property is close to town for shopping needs, etc.
The property manager is very responsive and answers questions factually. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend this property.
This Great Camp is located just minutes from Saranac Lake NY and 15 to Lake Placid. We are on the Lower Saranac lake with 25 miles accessable by water ( 5 lakes) thru the locks. Easily and quickly accessible to almost every comfort you might need. Groceries, restaurants, charming small town with local attractions, art walks, antiquing, etc...Location, Location, Location!! There is water access through 25 Miles of lakes and waterways from this property and you will find the quiet serenity you are looking for in the Adirondacks as there are only 35+/- homes on the whole lake-and ours has almost 500 Ft of Lakefront! We are mostly state owned and its just pristine!!! The sunsets are just glorious and the home retains all of the original details from the early 1900's with modern upgrades of course- but by all means still retains all of the old world charm!!!
