About the property

1 bedroom cabin in the heart of the Adirondacks, outdoor lover's paradise

Welcome to our tiny home in the heart of the Adirondacks, outdoor lover's paradise!

The entire cabin is yours to enjoy - it sits on a quiet street at the base of a mountain and offers a country feel right in the village! The cabin is within walking distance of downtown Saranac Lake where you'll find restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, art galleries and other entertainment. It's also a short drive to the High Peaks area's best venues like Lake Placid; hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails; wineries and craft breweries; and numerous lakes, ponds and rivers for fishing, swimming and boating.

You’ll love our cozy cabin because of the full kitchen, the comfy beds, the many amenities and the beautiful, Adirondack-style interior. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families with up to 2 kids.

Interested in experiencing tiny home living? At just under 500 square feet, this newly constructed Adirondack White Pines cabin is surprisingly roomy. The living space includes a kitchen, dining area, living room with full size sofa bed, office/library, bedroom with full size bed and bathroom (shower, no bathtub). It can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children comfortably. There's a washer and dryer to handle all that well-used outdoor clothing and a fully equipped kitchen for nights when you just want to hang out at home. Outside, there's a cozy fire pit and lawn chairs, a Weber charcoal grill and private parking.

I live just 5 minutes away so, if you ever need anything, have a problem that needs attention or just want to get the "insider info" just give me a call! I can be at your door in minutes.

We provide coffee, tea and light breakfast fare for our guests, usually homemade banana bread, a selection of yogurt, fresh fruit and orange juice. We are also able to accommodate vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan diets - just let us know your needs/preferences before you arrive and we're happy to do it your way! We will happily stock the kitchen with your choice of groceries before you arrive so you can spend your time playing, not doing chores! (Contact us to learn more about this service.)

We also offer help planning your trip - there's so much to see and do here in the Adirondacks that sometimes it helps to talk with a local about the "must see's" in our area. We're happy to provide info and ideas so you can plan your perfect trip!

About Calli Shelton

We recently relocated from Houston, TX to Saranac Lake and we love it! I (Calli) am originally from the Adirondacks but we've lived in Texas for many years, raising our 5 children and seeing our 6 grandchildren come along. On a Thanksgiving 2015 visit to see family in the North Country, we spotted an old building in downtown Saranac Lake that was for sale - and bought it! Now we're renovating the former Dew Drop Inn and we'll be opening a restaurant and bar, 2 luxury apartments and a cooking school in 2018.

We enjoy all the area has to offer including skiing, hiking, canoeing, running, cycling and making great friends. The people we've met since we've been here have been some of the nicest, most interesting and most genuine people we've met anywhere.

We also enjoy traveling, most recently to Greece and France. We've also been to the West Indies, Tahiti, Peru, Colombia, Canada, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, England, Singapore, Costa Rica and India. We've stayed in short-stay accommodations like ours in several of the places we've gone - it's a great way to see the world!

Calli Shelton purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Calli Shelton chose Saranac Lake

The cabin was custom built for us about 2 years ago by a local tiny home builder, Bill Plumb of Adirondack White Pines Cabins. We loved the quality, functionality and design he puts into every cabin he and his son build. It's warm in the winter, cool in the summer and incredibly energy efficient. It's the perfect, all season way to enjoy vacationing in the Adirondacks!

What makes this cabin unique

The property our cabin sits on once belonged to a family member and was perfect for a vacation home - a wooded lot with privacy and a natural feel but within walking distance of downtown and the local beach. The roads on this side of town are great for running and cycling and we're just minutes from the local ski hill; a lake for swimming, fishing and boating; and hospital and an urgent care facility. Everything we could possibly need practically on our doorstep!

Lone star cabin

Stayed 3 nights in this beautiful little cabin. Cabin was spotless and Calli was great! Very nice touches like home made banana bread and champagne for our second anniversary. So much to do not enough time.We will stay longer next time.

a perfect little cabin close to town and hiking

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin for a girls' weekend. We are three work friends who all love to hike (and eat). This cabin was perfect. The cabin itself feels new and is very clean. Calli was a wonderful host who contacted us ahead of time to ask about ETA and food preferences. She had breakfast foods waiting for us. The location was perfect. It was a short drive to Saranac area mountains (the Saranac 6-ers) and a short walk to restaurants and shops. Calli contacted us each day we were there to make sure we had everything we needed. She also gave great hiking advice. We will definitely be returning for more girls' weekends, as well as separately with our families.

Nice, clean place that’s close to everything. Would stay again. It’s also very helpful to have a washer/dryer when you’re doing outdoor activities.

The Lone Star Cabin was perfect! I loved being in this space.

  • 5 of 5

Calli's cabin is a beautiful nook in the Adirondacks. It's a close drive to Lake Placid and just a walk away to Downtown Saranac. My fiance and I enjoyed the outside fire pit. Calli was personable and made sure we were comfortable. I would definitely stay here again! It's lovely and spacious inside! Perfect for a couple who is looking for a wonderdul getaway in the ADKs!

The cabin is cozy and spacious for two people. The kitchen was fully stocked which was great!

The lone star cabin was great for a winter getaway! It’s about 15 mins from lake placid, the major hiking trails on adirondak Loj and whiteface mountain skiing all of which I would suggest doing if you are in town. The cabin had a nice “homey feel” and was quiet and peaceful, just what was needed!

One issue we did have was the heater/thermostat malfunctioning but Calli was able to help us resolve the issue promptly.

Car: recommended

•Lake Colby Beach - a sandy beach with lake swimming a quarter mile from the cabin

•Adirondack Carousel – A fun place for the little ones or anyone interested in craft art, it’s right in Saranac Lake. This restored carousel features Adirondack themed animals carved by local artists in place of the usual horses. Seriously, where else can you ride a giant black fly?! Then go to Stewart’s next door for an ice cream cone!

•Farmers Market – Every Saturday during the summer there’s a farmers market in downtown Saranac Lake (in the park across from Town Hall). There’s a nice variety of locally grown produce, meats, cheeses, wines and baked goods and some local crafters and artisans as well. Get there early for the best selection – the market is on Saturdays, 9 - 2 pm, from June 3 to October 7

•The Wild Center – The Adirondacks’ premier natural history museum and nature center is not to be missed, especially the new Wild Walk – an elevated trail through the treetops! A 30-minute drive to Tupper Lake along one of ‘America’s Most Scenic Highways’ will take you to a day's worth of things to see and do at the Wild Center. Great for all ages.

•Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center (locals call it “the Vic”) – Just a 20 minute drive from the cabin, this nature center offers a wide variety of free and fee-based arts, sports, and educational programs throughout the year, interpretive nature trails and a butterfly house. See the website at adirondackvic.org for a full list of year-round events and hours.

•Lake Placid Olympic Venues – located around the area but all within 20-25 minutes from the cabin, these include the Whiteface ski center, Mt van Hoevenburg bobsled/luge runs, the Olympic Speed Skating Oval, the ski jumps and more

•Donnelly’s Custard – Located on an actual, working dairy farm 5 minutes from the cabin, this is the stuff of local legends. One flavor daily, twisted with vanilla – no, you don’t get a choice! But it’s okay – it’s the best custard you’ll ever have. See their Facebook page for the daily menu and location.

•Mountain Mist, 260 Lake Flower Ave, Saranac Lake – If you’re looking for variety, Mountain Mist has a big menu of soft and hard ice cream flavors along with other treats. Grab a cone and walk out on the dock over the lake in back – but don’t feed the ducks! (It makes them mean!)

•Tupper Lake Triad – This is the newest hiking challenge in the area (you get a patch if you complete all three hikes!) and a great one for families and beginning hikers! Each of the 3 fairly easy climbs (Arab, Coney and Goodman) is 1.5 miles or less and the views from the tops are fantastic. You’ll even get to see the fire tower on top of Mount Arab – climb to the top if you dare! In summer, there’s a ranger living up there to greet you and tell you about the area. We did all three of the hikes in one day (in the snow!) but you don’t have to. This one isn’t on the Adirondack.net page yet – Google ‘Tupper Lake Triad’ for more info.

•The Bloomingdale Bog Trail is just a 5-minute drive from the cabin and offers a flat, scenic, 16 mile trail along an old railroad bed; good for walking, jogging or mountain biking

•Baker Mountain is a moderately easy, family friendly, 1.5-mile hike to the summit (with an AMAZING view!) just 7 minutes from the cabin.

•Rentals - Power boat, pontoon boat, canoe, kayak, stand up paddleboard, bicycle (single and tandem) and fishing gear rentals are all available locally. Email me if you're interested in renting any equipment and I'll send you contact info for the business(es) that offer what you're looking for.

•Experience Outdoors – Experience Outdoor’s tree-based zipline adventure tour is located at the Cascade Nordic Ski Center in Lake Placid (about 20 minutes from the cabin). The course is designed with adventure elements including 12 ziplines, bridges, rappelling, and an ATV ride back to the lodge. See their website at www.experienceadkoutdoors.com.

•Mt Pisgah Ski Center – Small and fun! If you’re looking for after-work skiing, try Mt Pisgah. It’s less than 5 minutes from the cabin and offers snowshoe and cross country ski trails, beginner downhill slopes and glade skiing for the intermediate to advanced skier. And there's tubing, which Pisgah's gentle slopes are made for! The fully lighted trails make Mt. Pisgah the only choice for local night skiing all in a casual, hometown atmosphere. Search for Mt Pisgah on Facebook for current conditions, events and prices.

•Whiteface Mountain is the fifth-highest mountain in New York and one of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. It’s famous for Olympic-quality downhill skiing but also offers bobsled, luge and cross-country experiences.

•Mt van Hoevenberg – 50 km of cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails, ski and snowshoe rentals

• Saranac Lake Winter Carnival – The most fun you’ll have all winter! Named the second best winter carnival in the world by National Geographic Traveler magazine in 2012
