A popular and tastefully furnished ground floor apartment for 4 on a quiet site, used mostly by families and couples, many of the properties kept for exclusive use by the owners. All of the furniture and furnishings are of the highest standard, and have been carefully chosen by the owner to guarantee you a comfortable and relaxing stay. About Diana Knight

I have always been fascinated by travellers and travel. In 1987 my family and I moved to a Georgian rectory in Malvern, Worcestershire, which my husband and I took great pleasure in restoring, gradually opening up different parts as holiday accommodation for visitors to this beautiful part of the UK. We ran it as a hugely successful holiday business, with two self-catering apartments in the wing, and the converted coach house as a picturesque holiday cottage, together with 4 en-suite bedrooms in the main house for B&B guests, and earning the prestigious 4 red stars award from the AA. We are now retired and live in Dorset. I continue to go to Spanish classes and travel out to Spain as frequently as I possibly can, making full use of our local airport at Bournemouth.

Why Diana Knight chose West Costa del Sol

In 2000 we had the opportunity and funds to venture into the Spanish holiday business, purchasing and upgrading a villa in Fuengirola, which we sold as a successful going concern 4 years later. At this point, we decided to purchase a brand new property in a quality location, with on-site facilities such as pools and tropical gardens, besides being in an ideal location for the discerning holiday maker. So we chose our sea view apartment on Casares del Sol, naming it 'La Palmera' after our first villa. Our first letting was in 2008. We now also own a wonderful villa in the north Costa Blanca, which we have finally finished extending and upgrading, adding our own pool, garden plants, and terraces, to which we escape as often as commitments allow. We are now retired and reside in Dorset.

What makes this apartment unique

From 'La Palmera' Apartment one is immediately impressed by the glorious setting, nestling in the protection of the mountains and looking down to the sparkling blue sea. Sitting on the terrace it is a real delight to soak up the majesty and peace of the surroundings. We are so pleased to be able to share this unique experience with others, and so endeavour to offer every home comfort that the discerning holiday maker would expect of a quality holiday property.

The location is in a very quiet area, although a bit away from the beach and restaurants. Hence, I would recommend to have a car during a stay here. It is possible to walk to the beach, but there are better beaches short distances away with car to spend time at. No restaurants or nightlife in walking distance. There is a golf club close by and in the same building there is a fitness center. They have e.g. spinning classes. We used this apartment as a base for several daytrips, e.g. Ronda, Los Pueblos Blancos, Gibraltar, Tarifa, Estepona, Marbella and Puerto Banus. The apartment was clean and welcoming when we arrived, which is always nice. We found everything we needed for a pleasant stay, and it is always good to be at a place with a kitchen where the equipment we need is actually there in order to cook. There were aboslutely no traces of any smoking inside, which was highly appreciated by us. The AC in the apartment is exactly what most Norwegians hope to find in warmer countries, it keeps the apartment cool when you need it to be. The bed in the master bedroom is a bit soft, and the two beds in the other bedroom was just right (for us)! We really enjoyed our ten days and we can absolutely recommend this. Thank you.

Great appartment in lovely setting

We had a great holiday with our 20 month old daughter. The apartment was located on a lovely complex that was very well maintained. A car is required to explore the area and also makes getting to the beach easier. We generally went to playa del cristo most days and found it to be the best beach in the area, some of the other beaches had already closed up for the year. You can still access them but not all the facilities are open. I would also recommend getting into the hills behind the main resorts to experience more of the real Spain. We would definitely come back in the future. The weather varied between 23 - 26 every day with no rain, perfect for us. Next time we will fly into Malaga as we had delays at Gib due to high winds on the way home (we actually ended up gettig a bus to malaga as the plane was diverted).

A nice flat, very well equipped with nice views and good location. / Bel appartement, bien situé !

We spend 2 weeks in Andalusia with our children aged 11 and 14. Diana and Peter's flat is in a nice complex, surrounded by lovely gardens, a beautiful pool (supervised by a lifeguard), nearby beaches (Casares del Sol, Estepona...) but also the Sierra Nevada. We found the location was ideal both for relaxing and sightseeing. We highly recommend to visit Ronda, Casares, the white villages in the Sierra Nevada and Gibraltar. We also visited Grenada and Cordoba, even though it's a 2 hours drive from Casares del Sol, it is more than worth it!

The flat is of good size, well decorated, with nice views over the mountains and the sea from the patio. It has everything you need : air conditioning, washing machine, dish washer, TV., DVD ... It's also of easy access to the pool. Diana was very helpful and always available for us! Booking is very easy and as I said, any questions, just contact Diana and Peter! We highly recommend this property!

Nous recommandons vivement cet appartement. Il est très bien équipé et bien situé, que vous vouliez découvrir l'Andalousie ou simplement vous relaxer autour de la piscine ou au bord des plages alentours. Depuis Casares del Sol, vous pouvez visiter Estepona, Ronda, Casares, les villages blancs dans la montagne, Gibraltar... A 2 heures de route, il y a aussi Grenade et Cordoue qui valent vraiment le déplacement! L'appartement en lui-même est agréable. Il est au rez-de-chaussée, dans un complexe calme et entouré de beaux jardins. La piscine est surveillée et les plages sont à 2/3 minutes en voiture. Depuis le patio, vous avez vue sur les jardins, la piscine, la montagne et la mer au fond. C'est très facile de réserver et si vous avez des questions ou des hésitations, vous pouvez contacter Diana et Peter. Ils nous ont toujours répondu très rapidement et efficacement. well situated, perfect for families

We stayed at the apartment for two weeks with our 6 and 10 year old children and had a very enjoyable stay. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bedrooms are a good size with comfortable mattresses, plenty of storage (and hangers!). The apartment is very nicely decorated with a large balcony/terrace overlooking the gardens and pool. We were unable to access any TV channels, which would have been nice for the occasional hour when the children needed a rest from the pool, there is wifi access (albeit somewhat intermittent). It was a few days before we thought of making use of the underground car park and were glad we did, so much nicer than getting into a boiling hot car, and convenient to use the lift (it's only 1 floor but handy when you have a lot to carry).

The complex is well looked after, lovely landscaped garden to walk through to the large pool with fabulous mountain views on one side and sea views to the other. There were a mixture of nationalities when we visited, both owners and rental guests, we found everyone very friendly.

You really do need a car here, there are at least three supermarkets within 10 mins drive, it's less than 10 mins to Duquesa which has loads of restaurants serving pretty much every type of food you could ask for, approx. 5 mins drive to Sabinillas, which again has a plenty of restaurants (we highly recommend the Argentinian). There are so many great places to visit, but one of our favourites was a visit to Mijas (45 mins drive) , an incredibly pretty mountain village with stunning views and some lovely shops and restaurants, the children absolutely loved riding around the town on donkeys!

All in all a great apartment, well situated and perfect for families.

Area ok, great pool, accom was nice once we got in

We travelled as a family, my husband, older teen son & myself.

Booking :-Having started off on an unusual footing of being asked to pay direct, I'd already paid via the OwnersDirect site, & that the credit card charge would come off the deposit? (I'd paid by debit card) I then received instructions that the key to the property were in a key safe, the number for this wasn't passed until the day we arrived (which was ok, but a crossed message regarding them not having my mobile 'phone number when all of my details were on the initial request sheet was a little concerning).

Property:- was ok, when we finally got in, via the service manager, the following day.

We arrived at the time we stated on a message also asking for the key safe number, security man wasn't aware of our details but did locate security fob & showed us to the property (a very large complex, difficult to find without assistance). For the following hour, we tried & failed to open the key safe to enable access to the property. Site Security couldn't assist us with this. We contacted Mrs Knight, the owner, via mobile & landline numbers but to no avail during that first hour.

This was our first holiday to this part of Spain, we didn't know our way around at all. We drove to the nearest largest town to locate some wifi & start looking at options.

After a day of travel, 38° & hadn't eaten since lunch, we were all a little frazzled.

Over 90 minutes later, having sent text messages explaining our issue, we were also concerned as to where we would sleep that night. 1 HR &40 mins after my first contact explaining the issue, a text came through suggesting I try a different key pad number! Having explained via text that we were not returning to just try another, not even similar number & requested that she arranged someone to meet us there, all I then received was a further text message suggesting that we hadn't used the keypad properly! I then asked for her to call me. I received a call back 10 minutes later, this was now 1855, just short of 2 hours after arriving at the property. We were not happy!

We have rented accom across the world, this was the first time we had rented from another Brit when in Europe. ALL other bookings (we are well travelled) we have been met by someone.

On this occasion the owners system failed but sadly, they were very unhelpful & have continued to be. No apology, all rather selfishly about them!

No refund of 1 night 'rental' or our required hotel costs.

Owner's Response: This review is currently under investigation by HomeAway Holiday Rentals as false allegations have been made by the guest. I normally mail the keys out to guests 2 weeks prior to a stay at the apartment. On this occasion the guest booked the property a week before her stay, but left home 4 days afterwards. I felt it best not to have the manager meet the guest with the key at a prearranged time, as guests are frequently delayed. As it was, this guest was 1 hour late. I had asked her to obtain the key from the safe in the wall by the front door of the apartment, and I did give her the correct number in the first place. Other suggestions were made when she said that she couldn't get the safe door to open. It proved to be jammed by the key inside, something which has never happened before. Contrary to what the guest has posted on this review, I was extremely concerned about the situation at the time, and have been highly stressed about it ever since. I emailed that "I am sincerely sorry about the inconvenience caused" and apologized profusely on the phone. All of this has been ignored. I had notified her on booking that I was not at home, to receive either her booking form or any landline phone calls. Unfortunately the guest delayed contacting me for an hour when she found that she couldn't open the key safe. Had she called me immediately, then I would have been able to contact the local manager before she left the office and ask that she go to the apartment to meet the guest with a spare key. When the guest did eventually speak to me, I tried endlessly to contact the local manager, but by this time she was out in the campo and out of signal range. I spoke to the local manager before 8pm and asked her to go immediately to the apartment with a spare key for the guest. We phoned the guest to advise her of this, but she ignored the call, so we left a message to say that she could now have access to the apartment. However, by her own admission, she read but chose to ignore our message and booked a hotel room for the night, which we had neither advised nor agreed to. For the guest to post that we were very unhelpful and have continued to be so, and that no apology or refund of 1 night's accommodation has been made to their "required" hotel costs is insulting and untrue. We have actually paid for half of the unnecessary overnight hotel stay, as a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience caused, but have received no acknowledgement or thanks for this.

OUR FOURTH STAY

I guess the title says it all. We normally go on holiday earlier in the year but due to family commitments we couldn't. So when the chance came we decided to return to place we know and like very much.

We were not disappointed .I can recommend this accommodation if your looking for a base to explore Andalucía. Even after a good day out it was a pleasure to return to the apartment.

Dirty, 2 months deposit back

It was a shock at arriving with 2 small children in the apartment, how dirty and improper was its shape. We had to start with a total cleaning took several hours even the refrigerator, the cutleries, and bathrooms…etc. The internet was not worth for using as it was cancelled in every minute and the tv satellite card did not work…Internet and TV would not be a huge issue however it was promoted as part of the package.

Finally we were not allowed to leave the keys in the apartment but we had to post it back to the owner on our cost and time after the holiday.

But what was the most disappointing that we had to ask several times the owner to send our deposit money back…!!! It took us almost 2 months to have it back but was reduced by a given amount of money based on having a bloodstain on the bath outlet what is a type of towel, nothing more!!!

On the other hand not offering any refund on our wasted time for cleaning and not enjoying our holiday.

It is scandalous and we have never met a situation like this before.

We have been several times for weeks in Andalusia and we love it very much, but I clearly would not recommend this apartment to be stayed.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that BB and family had a bad experience, but I can assure them that had I been alerted to the cleanliness issue immediately upon their arrival, then I would have ensured that my cleaner revisit that same day and rectify any problems. Instead, they chose to clean the apartment themselves, and not inform me of their problem until well into the second week of their stay. After 10 days I received the following email: "We arrived last week and the apartment is very good and well located and very nice. I would like to tell the truth that the all apartment was uncleaned and dirty so the first day I had to clean it. It occured us some concerns in the first times but now we are enjoying to stay here and we have a very good holiday". I would add that this is the first time in 7 years of letting this property that I have had a complaint about cleanliness. Clearly something must have gone drastically wrong at that end, or else BB's standards are way above those of several hundred previous others. Unfortunately I am unable to be on the spot to monitor things and have to rely on the reports of third parties. Re. keys, these guests have been the first to ever complain about my system of issuing and receiving keys. Collecting keys at a handover can be an expensive business, 20 euros to collect and 20 euros to hand back to my local manager, with any arrival or departure before 9.00am or after 5.00pm being charged at 30 euros. And the guest has to judge his timing very accurately indeed if additional charges for wasted time are to be avoided. I have chosen to mail out the keys by recorded delivery a) to avoid a minimum of 40 euros being added to the guests' bill, and b) to allow guests complete freedom re. their arrival time, bearing in mind that some flights do not get in until midnight. Such a late arrival would incur pretty hefty charges if a manager were to be involved. Re. BB's security deposit refund, it took a long time for them to respond to my email saying they had failed to give me full / accurate bank details, and after lengthy delays it took several attempts to get the money transferred to Hungary. In fact I didn't make any deductions for a stained rug for which they had denied responsibility at the time. The full deposit was refunded minus bank charges. Even with the best laid plans, unfortunately we can have hiccups. I apologize to BB and family for any inconvenience, but am heartened by his wife's own words "we have a very good holiday".

Estepona- 10 minutes drive. Wonderful 'Paseo Maritimo' with lush tropical gardens for your stroll along the seafront, and 3 glorious beaches with 'chirringuito' fish restaurants. Marbella and Puerto Banus offer a taste of the exotic lifestyle. Marbella's historic old town sits side by side with the boutiques of Prada and Gucci. Casares' pueblo blanco' clings to the mountains 10 minutes away, with eagles soaring high above, whilst Ronda, straddling the Tajo gorge, is about an hour's drive. Gibraltar is 20 minutes and offers duty free shopping and of course the apes! Our own local blue flag beach, Playa la Chica, is less than a kilometre, and easily walked.

The site itself is only accessible by an electronic fob, whist a similar system is in operation should you wish to use the garage parking.
