5 bedroom renovated farmhouse with fabulous private pool in the mountains

This traditional 100 year old farmhouse is situated inland, 800m above the Mediterranean, in the Axarquia area of Malaga province, Andalucia. Casa Belmonte has been renovated imaginatively in a rustic yet modern style. The property faces south and sits among 5000 sqm of olives and almond groves. The tranquil ( and we mean tranquil! ) location features a fabulous 9m x 4m private salt-water pool with a large sunbathing area, a shaded summer terrace with dining for 12 & a built in BBQ - guests say we have 'the best views in Axarquia'.

The cool, light, spacious house has 5 double bedroom and 3 stunning bathrooms. All 5 bedrooms are now air conditioned for extra comfort in the summer months. A comfortable home from home for up to 12 guests. There is a large family kitchen/diner and a luxurious sitting room with satellite TV and south facing views. The mature gardens and vine covered terraces that surround the property offer many places to relax and unwind in or out of the sun. Play table tennis, darts or boules.

We keep our own hens so guests can enjoy fresh eggs.

At the front of the house, outside the kitchen/diner is a wonderfully scented terrace covered in vines, jasmine and bougainvillea. Perfect for al fresco dining, birdwatching and sunsets . Poolside there is even more space - both lawn and terracing - in shade and sun, with panoramic views of mountains, lake and sea. The pool is salt water ( no nasty chemicals). There is an outdoor fridge, sink and BBQ, plus plenty of seating for all 12 of you. Don't forget the Andalucian style courtyard which leads to the roof terrace which has fabulous 360 views! At night the pool can be lit for those who enjoy swimming under the stars – and wow, what stars! There is also an outdoor table tennis table , & darts board plus lawn badminton & boules. Casa Belmonte was set in a delightful rural location, perfect for days spent relaxing by the beautiful pool. The house was large, full of character, and very clean. Amenities close by perfect for stocking up for our daily BBQs!

Absolutely amazing place with the most stunning views

Thanks so much Hilary and Rob for sharing your beautiful home with us. We had two incredibly relaxing weeks at Casa Belmont and loved every minute. You guys were fab and happy to answer all our questions!

The views were fantastic, and the set up that you have created made it the most relaxing holiday we have ever had.

The outdoor area was the best; beer, bbq, pool, tunes and a view. The perfect combo.

We hope to be back one day to your little piece if paradise.

Stunning place is a beautiful area

This was our 2nd visit to Casa Belmonte and it is still as lovely as we remember it. There is everything you require for a home from home stay, the villa is lovely, spacious and clean and has all the facilities that you need.

The views from the villa are amazing, the photo's really don't do it justice. Lake Vinuela is so blue, and you can see the sea and the olive trees which you never get tired of. If you want to relax you can sit around the pool, have a BBQ, get fresh eggs daily from the chickens.

Hilary and Rob were very accommodating and met up with us on arrival, as per the first time we stayed they showed us around the property letting us know of any changes since the last time we stayed. They were on hand to provide any help we needed and also arranged a mini-bus to take us to the next village Periana so we could go out for a family meal and a drink so we didn't have to take the car.

They also have a book there to provide ideas to do while you are there if you are stuck.

The villa is about an hour away from the airport, 30 minutes from the beach in Torre del Mar which has a big market on a Thurs 9-2pm. The Eroski supermarket is about 20 minutes away which has everything you would need for shopping and your stay, or there is a Lidl if you want a cheaper shop. If you want something a bit closer, just down the hill (in your car) there are some restaurants and bars, with a bakery, butchers and small supermarket for local and international produce.

If our feeling a bit adventurous you can take a trip into the nearby villages for the traditional Spanish atmosphere, where the locals are friendly, especially if you try and give Spanish a try. We visited when the ferrias (Spanish festivals) were taking place with amazing atmospheres and great photo opportunities (Alhama de Granada and Puente de Salia).

I would definitely recommend a stay at Casa Belmonte and can only say wonderful things about the place and the hosts :-)

Simply fabulous....

The location, the house, the pool, the chickens with fresh eggs every day! The almonds on the trees the beautiful grounds with Rob and Hil's love of plants clearly on show we could not have been happier. It's a 20 minute drive down to the coast and only 45 Mins from Malaga airport, or up to Zafarraya and on to Alhama on the way to Granada where you can see the majesty of the Sierra Nevada. The local hills including Maroma and natural park of the Sierra Tejada are also inspiring and offered us some opportunities for cool woodland and forest walks.

This was a great holiday with plenty to do for the whole family and a great place to be on the days we wanted to do nothing.

Message to Rob and Hil: we all had a fabulous time thank you so much for making us so welcome and we just loved the lovely touches in the house and gardens.

Paradise Found

As Autumn arrives in the UK our thoughts return to Casa Belmonte and our magical summer away.

We were lucky enough to spend a second blissful holiday at Rob and Hilary's beautiful Spanish retreat and how excited we were to return!

The house easily accommodates three generations of our family with plenty of room to spare, the interior has the perfect balance of comfort and style, whilst the outside space has more than enough to keep a large family happy and the views are just breath taking!

Once you arrive there really is no need to leave except maybe to visit the local shops and butchers to stock up on food for the BBQ, but if you wanted to explore then El Toril is perfectly located to visit the nearby natural parks, the coast and even Granada for a day out.

Casa Belmonte has given us so many happy memories and we will feel as though we have made some lovely friends in Rob and Hilary.

We have some fantastic photos to see us through the winter and, suffice it to say, we have already begun saving for our third visit!

Family Holiday.

We had a family get together celebrating two birthdays and having a special holiday. The villa really does have the wow factor as it has sufficient bedrooms, fabulous views, sunny pool and is spacious enough for everyone to have a quiet moment should they need one. It has tons of character and also plenty to amuse everyone with darts, table tennis and also wifi for those that need it . It also has a pool table on the roof terrace with amazing views but unfortunately previous holiday makers had left it uncovered so is needing repair.

We had a great time and would love to visit this fabulous Villa again. Highly recommended.

A stay at Casa Belmonte will give you a taste of old rural Spain. As well as the breathtaking views, you will enjoy hearing the bells from sheep and goats being taken to pasture each day (not too early in the mornings!), and returning late. You will hear and see abundant wildlife – a paradise for bird spotters. Remember to look out for chameleons, lizards and snakes. 10 minutes drive away is Alcaucin- a pretty village situated on the lower western slope of La Maroma in the Sierra Tejeda mountain range. Here you will find a few small supermarkets, and three or four great bars. On Saturday morning there is a local market in the village selling great fruit and veg. The village layout is typically Moorish; the name Alcaucin is derived from the Arabic Al-Cautin (arches). An 18th century parish church, Nuestra Senora del Rosario, stands in the village square, next to the town hall (ayuntiamento).

From the village you can drive into the Parque Natural of the Sierra Tejeda.
