Walking distance for snorkeling, busses, grocery stores, and restaurants
'Cunucu', meaning countryside or farmland, is a traditional style of Aruban architecture on the island. It was built in stages with an original main house consisting of a hadrei, or gallery, and a kitchen containing a fireplace flue, or flagon, situated so the tradewinds carried the smoke away from the house. Dormers were added later for the children's bedrooms as well as a second hadrei for extended family. Our guest apartment is in part of the original hadrei of the home.
With emphasis on authenticity, comfort and value, our apartment intentionally wasn't made over to look like a Palm Beach hotel room. Located in a quiet seaside village, our home is away from the crowded tourist areas, but still easily accessible by car or bus, should extra nightlife be desired. For savvy travelers who want to get to know the real Aruba, we offer a quiet, clean, comfortable retreat in a small, friendly Aruban neighborhood. Here you can sample local living while still being in excellent close proximity to some great restaurants and beaches. We provide a spacious living area with high beamed ceilings, full kitchen, cable TV, wifi, a queen size bed and even hot water for your showers, something quite unusual in typical Aruban households. Beach towels, chairs and cooler bag are ready and waiting too.
While there are amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries, snorkeling and even a gym, within walking distance, we do recommend a car rental to see everything the island has to offer. So you can plan and look forward to your trip, We provide an e-guide for all our guests prior to their trip with apartment information, local map, tips and recommendations for tours, hidden and popular places to eat and general things to do on the island.
** Please note - this property has the bedroom upstairs in the original dormer bedroom. This is an older historic home and although quite sturdy, the stairs are a bit steeper than that of their American counterparts (see photos). Anyone having difficulty with stairs, or, anyone who is extra tall, will not be comfortable here. That being said, anyone looking for charm, character and authenticity, this is your place!

About Nancy & Tim Gallagher
We have been Aruba travelers for 27 years. There have been a lot of changes to the island but not many changes to the area that we decided to make our home. Although we're not quite ready to retire yet and move there permanently, until we are, we are sharing our second home with guests in hopes that they fall in love as well.
Nancy & Tim Gallagher purchased this Apartment in 2017
Why Nancy & Tim Gallagher chose De Bruynewijk
Since we were embarking on a move of over 2000 miles to a desert island, we didn't want a home that looked like it was built in Miami. We wanted a home that embraced the Aruban culture - one that 'looked' like Aruba and would remind us of its heritage every day. In the past 27 years, we've seen so much overbuilding on the island and it was important to us not to join the ranks of those who purchase condos and new construction and contribute to the crowds and congestion of the island. We love our unspoiled oasis.
What makes this Apartment unique
We are hidden away in a quiet neighborhood, yet close to the water, beaches and can walk to some of our favorite restaurants.

Wonderful relaxing place. Beautiful beach and very good places to eat, which we walked to.
Thanks to Nancy for picking us up at airport and taking us to get a few groceries.
We took the local bus to go into San Nicolas and Baby Beach.
Very helpful and friendly people in this town.
Two weeks in Paradise
Aruba was awesome! The property at Saveneta was perfect for our two week stay. If you like calm, off the beaten path, this is the property for you. We would definitely do this vacation again...
Thank you for your kind review! So glad we could play a small part in making your vacation a memorable one. Come back any time!
Nearby pedal-kayak and snorkeling tours - we have some of the best reefs on the island for colorful coral and fish.
