About Julianne Taylor
While living abroad due to hubby's career, we decided to buy a property in the mountains that we call 'home'. Now settled in S. Carolina, this is a perfect getaway anytime of year. The 'Mrs.' is a professional interior designer, and gutting and remodeling this home was fun project!
Julianne Taylor purchased this House in 2010
Why Julianne Taylor chose Banner Elk
After years of looking for just the perfect place-- we found our little 'Million Dollar View' in one of those Real Estate magazines. Althought the property initially needed a lot of work-- we couldn't pass up the view. It truly is magical. The property had wonderful bones, and we knew with a full renovation-- we could make this property something really specialy for our family and hopefully yours.
Small dogs 15 lbs and under are welcome.
We have a pack n play and crib sheets.

Nice property and view, but maintenance was subpar.
They weren’t lying that the view is amazing. It is spectacular. The owners have done their best to organize and label the space. Too bad their property manager takes advantage of having an absentee landlord and ruined the entire experience for us.
We arrived late Friday evening and found there were no kitchen trash bags. The owner quickly coordinated having the property manager arrive 30 minutes later with replacements. While waiting, I found there were no paper towels but was told by the property manager when she arrived they were not provided and I could buy some at the local grocery store.
No big deal, I can handle buying a roll of paper towels.
The wheels fell off when we found all of the glasses and mugs had hardened food crust on them. When I tried to clean them, I found there was no dish soap to wash them. Silverware also had food residue left on them.
When making dinner, I found the majority of the cookware was also dirty with food residue and oddly enough human hair. Even worse? The cast iron skillet was crusted with burnt food residue that turned my cooking oil black. BLACK.
Sitting down for dinner at the table, my daughter put her elbows on the table only to yelp because there was broken glass on the table which cut her arm. I also stepped on a shard of glass in the kitchen later that night.
Suspecting that nothing in the kitchen resembled cleanliness, we loaded the dishwasher and crossed our fingers.
Apparently the dishwasher doesn’t actually clean the dishes. It just rinses them. That explains why all the dishes and silverware were dirty.
Apparently, the property manager just puts the dishes away without checking them, doesn’t wipe down surfaces or sweep the floor.
It’s unfortunate because the beds are comfortable and the view is amazing. Regardless, we are definitely never booking this place ever again.
Wow, Erica! I'm so sorry to hear about all of these issues. When you contacted us about the trash bins not having bags we immediately contacted housekeeping to have them bring some. We didn't hear about any other concerns from you the rest of the weekend. You are right that we entrust our housekeeping service to thoroughly clean our home between guests, and we will definitely cover these issues with them. I wish that you would have let us know about these additional items during your stay so that we could have quickly addressed them. 1-star reviews really hurt our chances to rent to others, and it's such a bummer that we didn't have the opportunity to make this right for you during your stay. Sincerely, The Taylors
What a great stay with an incredible view
A great rental. It is nice when you arrive at your destination and you know right away the owners put the time and effort into making their rental "easy" for their guests. Switches labeled. A comprehensive guide to both the house and the local community. Great communication. This one has all that. And then the view is as advertised. Just fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back. Thanks!
The home is comfortable. The master bed sleeps great. Only negative point was there was a lot of dog hair on the floor.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We work so hard to make sure our guests have a wonderful stay. We have discussed your issues with housekeeping to make sure our home is thoroughly cleaned between each guest. We hope to see you again soon!
This was our first experience renting from VRBO. So I don't have a comparasion on how to best rate the rental. I would probably give the rental 3+ stars
The Pros: Great location and views. Its down a little gravel road and about 5 minutes from Beech Mountain and 20 minutes from Sugar. It is a really cute and cozy ranch. It was perfect for me, my 80 year old mom and two teens. We were grateful the owner allowed us to bring our two dogs. We loved the fireplace and hanging out on the huge back deck watching the sunset or in the living room. There is a comfy recliner in the living room we all loved sitting in.
The Cons: The house while tidy was a bit dusty. The kitchen is dated and dark. I struggled cooking on the stove because its old and the burners are small and very uneven. The frig froze our food, which was a real bummer because we had to throw several items out, like fruit that got ruined. The bathrooms are also dated and we had an issue with a clogged toliet in the master bath. We called and emailed the maintance person several times and didn't get a response until mid-day the next day. One of my teens finally unclogged the toliet after working on it for 3 hours. We did hear from the owner but only after we resolved the issue. This was disappointing and I expected a quicker response. Lastly, the pillows are hard. I wished were hadn't forgotten our own.
Would I rent here again? Yes, despite the cons, we really did enjoy yourselves.
Quaint mountain house with amazing view.
We had a nice stay at this house in Beech Mtn. We enjoy going to the mountains and relaxing and this house allowed for it. The kitchen is well stocked and had everything we needed to stay in and cook. Plenty of room for our family of four. The sunsets from the deck are absolutely breathtaking. We met several home owners in the area and everyone was so nice. There is hiking nearby at the Emerald Outback Trails. Just 30 min to Grandfather Mtn. Overall it was a great stay.
This house is truly amazing. It is very clean and well maintained. The view is breathtaking. The owners are quick to respond to any questions. We will definitely stay here again.
Our home offers an opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Quiet and peaceful yet close enough to restaurants and fun activities to suit all.
