About Lynne Panes

We are the Panes Family from Bristol in the UK. We have 2 elder daughters who have spent the last 12 years holidaying with us, now bring their families & friends. We are both recently retired and love to spend our time in Samoens enjoying the amazing scenery, summer and winter activities on offer

Lynne Panes purchased this chalet in 2005

Why Lynne Panes chose Samoëns

We purchased the Chalet in 2005 having visited Samoens initially for many years for long weekends skiing, we visited in the summer of 2003 and put our names down to purchase the property off plan, having fallen in love with the summer activities on offer enabling us to enjoy Samoens all year round.

We chose this property as it is in a perfect location close to the village, ski lifts and ski bus stop and in a quiet south facing setting perfect for 2 families - one per floor and for our long term requirements of sleeping up to 10, to spend time with our girls and their families.

Samoens is not your typical skiing resort - there are no high rise concrete apartment blocks here and it look more like a typical Austrian Village. It is a working town so is not just for holiday makers - many people live here all year round. It is suitable for young and old and many families return year after year as has plenty on offer for non skiers.

Being only 1 hour from Geneva airport and close to Chamonis, Les Porte de Soleil, Megeve - there is plenty of skiing on offer apart from the Grand Massif and of course all the lakes of Annecy, Geneva are only 1 hour away for summer activities.

We never thought of a summer holiday in the Alps as a family - as we didn't realise how much there is to do.

The area is perfect for lovers of nature, scenery, all outdoor pursuits and culture.

We hope that you visit and find out for yourselves - all our visitors over the past 12 years love Samoens.

It has been described as a hidden gem of the French Alps in the Telegraph - unfortunately not so hidden after the review - but that us being selfish not wanting to share our little gem!

What makes this chalet unique

We chose this property as it is in a perfect location close to the village and in a quiet south facing setting perfect for 2 families - one per floor and for our long term requirements of sleeping up to 10, to spend time with our girls and their families.

The meadow location and views make this a tranquil place to stay whether you are looking for an active, cultural or laid back holiday - Samoens has it all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great atmospheric chalet in beautiful village

  • 5 of 5

Nicest part of France we’ve visited, real character & loads to do during summer for young & old. Surrounded by stunning mountains & with lovely paths along the riverside for walking or gentle mountain biking. The chalet was very comfortable and well furnished, nothing to criticise.

Peace in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely family holiday in Samoens. The chalet was very well equipped. There were a couple of issues which could have made the stay better but I am sure they are being attended to. There was plenty of space in the bedrooms but the main living area was a bit small for a group of eight and the kitchen area quite small for family cooking. Fortunately the weather was perfect for outdoor living. The chalet complex was very close to the amenities of Samoen.

Ideal base for holidays all year - and for all ages

  • 5 of 5

We were a three generation family of 7 adults and a 1-year old who spent a week’s ski-ing and walking holiday staying in this well equipped chalet, decorated in a traditional style and conveniently close to the attractive town of Samoens.

Comfortable and spacious bedrooms on top two floors but we needed to be organised in the open plan living area with keeping all ski gear stored away in cupboards by front door as we also had a pushchair and highchair taking up extra space (highchair and cot kindly provided). Drying clothes on rack needed a bit of maneuvering but under floor heating seemed to dry everything overnight. There is a coin operated washing machine and dryer available in building opposite.

The patio at the back - and balcony above – was a good place to relax and enjoy the peaceful rural view. Plenty of parking at the front including one allocated roofed space. Bookable sauna in reception area with an indoor swimming pool (also an outdoor pool within the complex). Found paying for family Internet use was the most economical.

Weather was varied during our stay with no snow in valley but some cross-country ski-ing marked routes were good for pushchair walks. However, still plenty of fresh snow in extensive ski areas which all skiers enjoyed. Ski bus stop opposite complex.

We had just one vehicle between us so were able to taxi those (that flew to Geneva) from the airport shuttle bus stop at the southern end of Cluses (just off J19 of A40), as well as explore more of the valley to walk, toboggan and do supermarket shops just outside Samoens (though there is a convenient smaller supermarket we used for daily bread within walking distance of chalet).

Excellent communication throughout with the owner (Lynne) as well as with the property services staff during our stay - Thank you. We had a great week and can see that your lovely chalet is in an ideal location for holidays in the area throughout the year.

A beautiful chalet set in a gorgeous part of France. Samoens is a lovely town with lots to do andsee

  • 5 of 5

A cosy chalet in picturesque surroundings. It is warm, well equipped and a real sun trap at the back overlooking the river and the mountains. A lovely 10 minutes riverside walk to ski lift and the delightful town which has lots of places to eat and drink and shops specialising in local produce. The owner cannot be more helpful and we were made to feel very welcome. I think 10 people in the chalet might be a little too much but 8 is ideal for a wonderful break in a glorious setting.

Excellent base for fantastic skiing!

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 7 adults (only 6 at any one time) staying at Lynne's chalet mid March 2018. The bedrooms were great - nicely decorated and roomy - and I had the best sleep in a long time!

Bathrooms also great - hot water and heated towel racks. Kitchen really well equipped with everything that we could possibly need during the holiday including raclette kit. We had dinner at home four evenings during the week and although the dining area/living room is quite compact, we had some really lovely evenings there :-)

Nice terrace with afternoon sun too!! We had snow most days while there, so didn't use the terrace that much, but did have one nice sunny day where we sat on the terrace after skiing and enjoyed a beer.

As we had a week of snow, all of our gear was quite wet and we struggled finding space to dry our jackets etc. There is a storage cupboard but this is quite small, so we ended up with the laundry rack in the already quite cosy living room. This was the only downside of this chalet.

We used the sauna/steam room a couple of times - it is €8 for 30mins. Also used the pool, which is indeed small (as it says in the description), but a great way to rest tired legs!

The skiing area was excellent - something for all abilities and some really nice restaurants on the mountain. Great prices as well - not as expensive as other resorts. We loved Le Montana 1842 restaurant on the Marmotte slope.

Also found some great restaurants in town. 8M des monts is AMAZING!! (book in advance)

Afterskiing not so great, but they did make a nice Vin Chaud @ Le Apres Ski chez Jeff...and you get a slice of homemade cake with every drink :-)

Overall very pleased with our stay in Samoens and can highly recommend Lynne's chalet.

Owner's Response: Thanks Ulla for your review and it was a pleasure having you as guests. So glad you loved our chalet and would recommend us. Sorry you experienced very wet weather as we have never had a problem drying our ski gear. We have on very wet days put it on the underfloor heating. I have taken your feedback on board and will get a heated drying rack for next season.

We had a brilliant stay in Samoens. The house is comfortable and has lovely finishing touches, it is a short walk into the village and the ski bus stops right outside on route to the gondola station. Thank you for a lovely holiday.
