Great Place for a Vacation
My wife and I had a great time in this quiet, comfortable and well equipped cabin in the spruce forest. Location within walking distance to a small rocky beach and within easy driving distance to numerous great restaurants and tourist activities. Owners are top notch folks who are readily available if you need any assistance. We just had a great time in a great place. Highy recommend.

Beautiful home in a quaint, friendly town.
The house sits on the edge of a wildlife reserve, making it the perfect setting for outdoor enthusiasts or those just wanting to enjoy the picturesque setting. The home was very clean and is equipped with everything you could possibly need. We very much enjoyed hiking the trails, kayaking, walking the ocean shoreline, relaxing on the large deck and visiting local businesses. We highly recommend this vacation home and hope to return next year.

Excellent vacation in beautiful Friendship Maine
The Spruce Woods lodge is located in a pine forest in Friendship Maine. There are beautiful nature trails that surround the property and you have a ton of privacy. We used the back yard fire place almost every night and had a great family vacation. The house is set up for renters and was very clean and organized. The owners are so nice and really make you feel at home. We steamed fresh lobsters and the kithchen is great for cooking. There is a Maine beach right down the road and we enjoyed the cold water. The scenery is beautiful. We miss the views. I would highly recommend the Spruce Woods lodge.

Spruce Woods Lodge - a tranquil and relaxing home!
Just getting back from a week at the Spruce Woods Lodge and was very happy with our stay! The home was well appointed, comfortable and nicely maintained. It had all the comforts of home and allowed me and my family to escape, unwind and relax! Our 2 dogs loved it too! The house is set back off a private road - even though your neighbors aren’t that far away you would never know it because you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. Bob and Judy left a book with tons of local information that helped us plan our days. The nearby beach was great for our dogs as it was small...but there were other beaches within driving distance that were great for the family! Everyone we encountered was super friendly and the surrounding countryside provided so many beautiful scenic vistas! We were able to make a day trip up to Bar Harbor and Acadia and also enjoyed a drive to BoothBay Harbor as well. Definitely check out the Owls Head transportation museum - lots of cool planes and cars to see! Only reason to not give the house five stars is because the shower heads could use an upgrade (they seemed to be somewhat antiquated) but I’m not sure with well water the pressure could have been any better. Highly recommend this home.

About the host

Hosted by Bob & Judy Zeitlin

Host profile image
Judy is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Archaeology at The University of Massachusetts, Boston. Bob is Professor Emeritus of Mesoamerican Archaeology in the Department of Anthropology, Brandeis University. In Maine he is a trustee of the Medomak Valley Land Trust. Our home and Treetops Cottage (a waterfront property we also rent through Homeaway) is just a short walk away.

Why they chose this property

Judy and I repurchased this property, which we had sold in 1986, primarily for the use of our children. We've extensively renovated the building and grounds and, since our children are currently occupying it for only a few weeks a year, are opening it to the public on a limited basis during other times.

What makes this property unique

The year-round lodge is beautifully designed, tastefully furnished, and fully equipped, set in a uniquely pristine forested and completely private.
