Very satisfied

Very cool place. For the price, I would include a few more basic kitchen and bath amenities.

Nice Private location!!

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 8 friends, 3 couples and 2 single ladies. Overall the space worked but I would say better for a family as 1 bedroom is smaller. Upstairs quite spacious with both bedrooms having an ensuite bath. The lower bedroom with 3 double beds was huge. Would have been nice to have at least some basic pantry items so if arriving later in the day, there would be coffee for morning. On the river but access was tricky. Overall we enjoyed our visit, like living in the rain forest!!!.

Restful and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Hawaii and the Big Island and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. A very private house and property with sea turtles to watch swim in the water and the surfers to entertain us while sitting out on the beautiful lawn.

It was the perfect size for the 8 of our family (4 adult couples) traveling together but we all had enough privacy for ourselves with the way this huge house is laid out.

If you are looking for a great place in the beautiful town of Hilo, give Tammy a ring! :)

Magical. Nature infused. Heaven. Group of yogis and runners visiting for the Hilo Marathon

  • 5 of 5

As we pulled up to the gates, my heart jumped. It was even better than I had dreamed. Tucked away, in the beautiful jungle, close the the surf beach, and removed from all that is hustle, we gladly called Alae Point home. If you don't like sunrise, nature, birds, freedom, privacy, the ocean, or an amazing host, I would recommend going elsewhere. THIS ESTATE IS HEAVEN.

Tammy was incredible from the moment I inquired until after we left, she provided activity ideas, local knowledge, and went above and beyond to accommodate our group of yogis/runners.

We practiced yoga out on the patio, ran the Hilo Marathon, and crushed our goals because we had a magical home base to resort and recharge.

Rent a car. Downtown Hilo is about 5-8 minutes driving but isn't really a recommended walk as the road is the highway.

You are walking distance to waterfalls, trails, and experienced surfers would LOVE the beach around the corner. Paddle boarding would be great around the river too.

Honestly, the only wish we had is staying forever. We even looked into how we could buy it as a group from Canada.

We will be back next year!

The River House is located 100 yards from Honolii Beach and 5 minutes from downtown Hilo. Honolii Beach is the premier surfers' beach on Eastside of the Big Island. Downtown Hilo offers quaint shopping and a taste of international cuisine from our local restaurants. Downtown Hilo is also the home of the Farmer's Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Must see attractions while in Hilo include:

- Rainbow Falls and Boiling Pots is Hilo’s most popular wall fall – a MUST see.

- The Lyman Museum offers a in depth history of the Hawaiian Islands and the culture of the Islands.

- The Pacific Tsunami Museum tells the story of the 1946 Tsumani as well as others.

- Imiloa Astromony Center is located about 15 to 20 minutes south. The center has rotating exhibits and a planetarium with daily shows.

- Volcano National Park is 45 minutes south of Hilo. See first hand what makes the Big Island the 'big island'.

- Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is 10 minutes north. Walk though the mountainside among native orchids and other lush foliage. Don't forget to see the Onomea Falls too!

- Akaka Falls is 15 minutes north and is a magnificent and majestic waterfall.

- Mauna Kea Observatory is about a 2 hour drive and is the highest point on the Island at 13,796 feet. Star gazing from the observatory is a must see.

This list is just a handful of the activities the Eastside of the Big Island has to offer.
