|Minimum Stay||7 - 8 nights|
With three of our children and grandchildren living in the US, and all of us getting together every Christmas staying in some of the nicest villas in Jamaica, Judy and I in 2010, decided to build a real family holiday house.
So, the design was for a very airy, family-friendly, elegant retreat. Our verandah and outdoor furniture are covered in sunbrella fabric. We have a large beach-entry swimming pool and perhaps the most attractive feature is our own private beach cove.
There are two water front sitting areas, a dock area: and a gazebo area, as well as furniture on the beach.
Bruce, our water sports assistant is extremely helpful with our water sports equipment and activities, which include jet skis, fishing boat, kayaks and paddle boards, snorkeling equipment and deep sea diving can be arranged with the Sandals Hotel and Spa across the bay.
We also have table tennis, a lawn for croquet and ball games such as the famous Jamaican cricket, soccer or even football, there is also gym equipment available.
There are great sitting and dining areas and an air-conditioned dining room that can seat 16.
Four bedrooms are on the 2nd level of the house with large folding doors that open onto a verandah with a 90 degree view overlooking the beautiful Caribbean. One bedroom is on the ground floor looking onto a beautiful garden area and is equipped for wheelchair access for the bathroom. There is an annex with a beautiful king size bedroom and bathroom and a children's room with two sets of double bunks and its own bathroom.
It is hard to leave Rivendell once there but the children try each year to visit two wonderful attractions: The lovely “YS Falls” and the “Black River Safari” both are within a half hour drive.
Judy will work along with guest to fix menus and stocking of the house, with a staff of 7, we are sure that any family that chooses to be with us will have one of their best holiday experiences.
Judy and myself have 8 children (including in-laws), and 14 grand children. We have stayed at the best villas in Jamaica and in 2010 we built Rivendell on the south coast in the same quiet bay as the famous Sandals Whitehouse Resort and Spa.
After years of renting many vacation properties in Jamaica we decided it was time to own our own. We chose this location in Jamaica because of its natural beauty and undeveloped serenity. It is also a part of the island where the weather is lovely and the sunsets amazing
Rivendell has every thing a vacation by the sea has to offer: a beautiful private beach, boating, snorkelling, deep sea diving and spa treatments at Sandals.
We had a wonderful few days at Rivendell!!
This luxurious yet relaxed villa more than met our expectations. From the initial greeting by the staff who met us at the front door with moist towels and a refreshing drink of fresh coconut water served on silver trays, to every detail thought possible to make our stay comfortable and make us feel at home.
Loved the openness of the villa itself, the view and easy access to the sea and the water sports offered (supervised by a watersports staff member to make sure we could safely enjoy the use of the equipment).
Besides having wonderful food served by the chef and his team, we were served breakfast on the jetty under the shady tree. As the waves lapped the shore and the fishermen in their boats were seen in the distance, we enjoyed smoked marlin among other delightful offerings including exotic Jamaican fruit! Yum!!
What makes this villa so special, I believe, is that you feel like you are a guest in the Levy's home...not only do you feel right at home, you also feel well cared for and comfortably seated in the 'lap of luxury'!
The artistic touches and the orchid/exotic floral arrangements add to the ambiance and intrigue of this villa. The art in the walls include canvases done by the Levy grandchildren and are tastefully hung. So much to look at and enjoy inside and out in the gardens, on the beach, by the pool, and the design of the villa allows you to be a part of the outdoors whether you find yourself at the dining table or sitting on a couch or chair in the living area
It was hard to leave this beautiful place!
After an exhaustive search of islands, rentals, yachts and everything in-between, we decided to rent Rivendell for a family vacation. We have a large family of 7 children who range between 16 and 25, and it is not always easy to get everyone together due to job, school and sports commitments. We wanted to do something a little different this time and something that would set the stage for future family vacations. We have stayed in villas before and had an enjoyable time, but I have to say that Rivendell was according to our kids "the best vacation we have ever taken".
It is difficult to find something that satisfies the needs of 7 teenagers, young adults and adults. We allowed our kids to bring friends along due to the large size of the house and annex building. We had a group of 15 people, 13 fell in the age range of 13-25...crazy to think about. We wanted something that was relaxed and enabled family bonding and we found it.
I can say with complete honesty, that Rivendell exceeded all of our expectations from our arrival (VIP escort through airport for a nominal fee) where the staff skillfully dealt with 4 flight arrivals over 3 separate days, expertly coordinated day trips for 15, onsite activities, wonderful and food and drink options and highly professional service by their staff of 7.
We spent 7 days, and I could have easily stayed another 7. Robert and Judy went out of their way to make sure that everything we asked for was handled before we arrived, contacting me several times throughout our stay to see if there was anything we needed.
The house was spectacular in the main house, 4 of 5 bedrooms were HUGE suites. The annex was surprising large easily accommodating 5 teenage boys.
Ziggy and OJay always went above and beyond to make sure that everything we could possibly need was taken care of, including an expertly measured croquet course (with hysterical lessons from "OJay" on the art of defensive play), ping pong (aka beer pong for the older kids) and water sports (by Bruce). The housekeeping staff did a fantastic job keeping everything immaculate, the groundskeeper kept the property pristine while the chefs prepared personalized tasty meals and snacks for the family.
We listened to Robert's recommendations and went to YS Falls and on the Black River Safari, also taking a trip to Rick's Cafe in Negril, all were very enjoyable and I would recommend all trips (Negril is a long ride).
We can't wait to go back!
Our family stayed at Rivendell this past week. We can be defined as frequent travellers, as we have been blessed enough to have stayed at top resorts, even listed on Conde Naste's Gold List, (ie., Capella Pedregal ((aka The Resort at Pedregal), Arenal Nayara, Costa Rica, Excellence Playa Mujeres, Grand Velas, Riveria Maya, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Riveria Maya, Roaring Pavilion, Ocho Rios to name a few...)).
We have been to Jamaica multiple times. I've never written a review about any place I've been. To me, these sites (with all do respect) can be a basis point for someone, but dont always accurately depict an entity; actions speak louder than words. And we could've written plenty of reviews as we've experienced both bad and good with each and every one (excluding Rivendell). This is the one and only place we'veexperienced that I have nothing left to say other than WOW!!! If your blessed enough to be able to visit here, God is truly in charge of your destiny (or w/e one chooses to believe in). We're compelled to write this one, not because I want everyone to go there;), as we want it to be available for our future visit, but more so because it was really God who led us here. Everyone, its a magical place with amazing people; who own it an run it.
The rate is truely all inclusive with no hidden fees or added taxes. You have a boat, wave runners, full staff, chef, luxurious rooms and VIP treatment. I felt the owners have an ulterior motive; they rent not because they have to, or need to, but because there good people who want to do Gods work and help others and to inspire and make others lives a better place.
We took the boat out, one day, and ran upon approximately 20 or more dolphins, which made me pinch myself; you cant get that at Sea World. They put on a show for us that made me look around for trainers. It was amazing!! The people take care of your every need, food is amazing, accommodations are excellent, they really become your family.
This place deserves to be shared. If youre able to, you should definitely see for yourself that what I/we're saying is not just talk there is a place out there where you can go to get away from the world and enjoy getting grounded with your family. If your wanting to experience a luxurious place, and be pampered among people who cater to your every need, all while focusing on what matters most; family. This is the place for you. We all were emotional when we left. The best vacation ever!!!
We travelled to this place called Rivendell not knowing what to expect. We had a large party of 11 people. Five adults and six children. We have four children with specific life threatening food allergies and two children with Autism. Our kids ranged from 8 years old to 17 years old. We also had my mother in law with us and she has early dementia/Alzheimers.
Obviously traveling to a foreign country and trusting someone to cook for you and take care of your special needs children is anxiety provoking. Were they going to be careful enough to not cross contaminate the kids food? Would they be patient and understanding with kids that are "different"? Was it going to work out or be a nightmare?
After spending 10 days with the staff our worries and concerns were all laid to rest. Robert and Judy were very particular in ensuring we had a dairy and egg free diet for the kids with allergies. They provided soya products like ice cream and milk as viable alternatives for them. Marcia and Sean were diligent in preparation and never did we feel uncomfortable about the food choices. They took care of grandma and made sure her every need was met as well.
Our special needs children Jacob and Sarah fell in love with Bruce. Jet skis, beach, kayaks, paddle boards, pool, hot tub...... the waterspouts were awesome. The entire staff was excellent with our kids.
My wife and I have travelled the world. We have been to Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Netherlands, Mexico, Bermuda, Bahamas, Costa Rica and Jamaica..... This was our third trip to Jamaica and after staying here it is going to be difficult to stay in a hotel again.
Privacy, luxury, amenities.... you name it. Everything was there. Ziggy and Ojay were outstanding at fulfilling any requests. The staff felt like family by the time we were done.
Pictures don't do it justice. We will surely return to Rivendell again......
The location is stunning. This part of Jamaica is so gorgeous. The water is clear and the beaches are outstanding. With a reef system just in front of the house the opportunity for snorkeling (or diving if you are a diver) are great.
My husband & I have stayed at this exquisite home on two occasions and only superlatives come to mind in writing this review.
On arrival we were met with cool drinks and cold towels to welcome us. The bedrooms are divine with the most exquisite views of the ocean.
Elegantly casual, delicious meals, wonderful staff who anticipated our every desire. Bruce with the jet Skis and kayaks, Marcia's magic in the kitchen, Ziggy ready to supply our every wish, to name just a few of this well staffed home.
The sunsets are amazing, the garden a horticultural feast of orchids, fruit and exotics.
Highly recommend for all ages and stages of life!
I have spent 5 days with my family at Rivendell last summer. We travel a lot as a family and have stayed in many beautiful hotels and homes, but Rivendell was truly the best property we have ever stayed in. Comfort, service, decoration, water sport and other facilities, staff, food,...everything was amazing and unforgettable.
We took back wonderful memories to France, our home country. We LOVED IT and we of course strongly recommend it.
Rivendell is close to two great Jamaica attractions
The Black River Safari and The YS Falls, both can be seen on the internet.
