About Nancy Molesworth

We live in NYC and enjoy weekends and holidays at our lovely country house, nicknamed The Fortress of Solitude. As our children get older, we can't be there as often as we like. We designed the house for cooking, relaxing and entertaining friends who come to visit and never want to leave.

Nancy Molesworth purchased this chateau / country house in 2001

Why Nancy Molesworth chose Hudson Valley

Our house is perfect for families that want to be together to cook, relax and explore the area - or just stay in. There is much to do nearby, but enjoying time in the house is equally as satisfying. From nearby golf courses, State parks with hiking trails and Hudson Valley farmer's markets, the area is full of things to do and explore.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Whether in front of the fireplace making s'mores and roasting chestnuts in winter or having drinks by the pool while the grill is warming up for a summertime barbecue, we love the house all year round. It's quiet, with only a few deer, wild turkey and red tailed hawks to keep you company, but just 15 minutes from the towns of Stone Ridge and New Paltz. We are about 1 hour 30 minutes from NYC.

House was amazing. Great room off the kitchen, full gym in the basement, did yoga on rooftop deck every morning. Pool was perfect. Bedroom and bathrooms fantastic! Loved the week.

My family and I recently enjoyed a week at this fabulous country home. The wooded and secluded country setting is gorgeous and the house itself is just wonderful with everything you could possibly need and plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The décor is lovely and the photos really don't do it justice. The furnishings and artwork are great, but the house is also very comfortable and liveable. The kids LOVED the huge playroom and of course the pool, the adults loved cooking together and hanging out in the large gourmet kitchen - we even had a master chef contest one night! We ate most of our meals at the large table on the back deck where we enjoyed the cool evenings. Nancy is so helpful and great to deal with and this is one of our most memorable family vacations. Would recommend to anyone!

My extended family and I rented this house for a family getaway, and we could not have been more pleased. I said "house" and I should have said "home," because the place was so warm and inviting that you felt like you were home. Everything was there - from a well-equipped kitchen, to a beautiful pool, and even a child's playroom - so every age group was happy! My dealings with the owner could not have been more cordial, and she was helpful in all areas. I would definitely rent this home again.

Wonderful Hudson Valley getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at the home for 4 weeks and truly enjoyed ourselves the entire time. The house itself is spacious and lovely with a kitchen that is well appointed with fabulous appliances and gadgets. There is ample space for a large family to relax together. The kitchen is open, which makes cooking with a group fabulous, and the dining room can easily seat 10. There are 2 separate living areas both of which are very comfortable and spacious. One of the playrooms houses a fabulous playroom that is incredibly stocked with toys for a wide age range. The pool is great and we used it everyday. The backyard space is nice, as well, with a great deck and a grill, which we used almost everyday as well. There are plenty of bathrooms, and everywhere gets a lot of light, which really makes the home so relaxing.

The owner was wonderful to work with and was quick to remedy the few minor things that came up while we were there.

The location is also great -- equidistant to both New Paltz and Kingston, both of which are home to some lovely restaurants/bakeries/butcher shops/grocery stores/cafes, etc.

The only issue for us at all was that the house has no a/c. I imagine that isn't an issue the majority of the time. However, during our stay there (the month of July), there were a couple weeks of very high temperatures, and having no a/c was a bit uncomfortable. There were many fans, however, and we could make do.

Overall, it was a fabulous home, we enjoyed our stay immensely, and would recommend the home to others!

Perfect Family Retreat in the Woods!

  • 5 of 5

This house has EVERYTHING that you could need for a big group. It is so well thought out. Not a single detail missed. The kitchen is a chef's dream! Big dinner's were a breeze to pull off. There is so much room that multiple families or couples would have plenty of space to themselves. The private wing is like a separate house! the bathrooms are large and modern. Plenty of storage everywhere. The kids LIVED in the playroom/media room when they were not outside or in the pool. The pool was amazing and well laid out for many to enjoy. It is very easy to get to. 1 and half hours drive from NYC or the bus many of our guests took the bus to Rosendale. very easy and 10 mins from house. There is a great farmers market in town and New Paltz is not far and full of everything. BUT It is so peaceful and secluded you never need/want to leave! I am sure this would be a great winter/holiday rental too.

The owner's were great to deal with and very efficient. We would love to return again soon!
