About Nancy Molesworth

We live in NYC and enjoy weekends and holidays at our lovely country house, nicknamed The Fortress of Solitude. As our children get older, we can't be there as often as we like. We designed the house for cooking, relaxing and entertaining friends who come to visit and never want to leave.

Nancy Molesworth purchased this chateau / country house in 2001

Why Nancy Molesworth chose Rosendale

Our house is perfect for families that want to be together to cook, relax and explore the area - or just stay in. There is much to do nearby, but enjoying time in the house is equally as satisfying. From nearby golf courses, State parks with hiking trails and Hudson Valley farmer's markets, the area is full of things to do and explore.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Whether in front of the fireplace making s'mores and roasting chestnuts in winter or having drinks by the pool while the grill is warming up for a summertime barbecue, we love the house all year round. It's quiet, with only a few deer, wild turkey and red tailed hawks to keep you company, but just 15 minutes from the towns of Stone Ridge and New Paltz. We are about 1 hour 30 minutes from NYC.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for the occasion of our son's marriage in Poughkeepsie. We needed a family place for relaxing and preparing for the wedding. Ten adults shared the house. It was extremely comfortable and very well-appointed; breakfast and lunch on the deck, swimming in the pool, games in the games room and relaxing in the sitting room. There is an enormous amount of downstairs space as well as 4 large double and 2 single bedrooms.

I would not hesitate to recommend this house for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. It was perfect for us.

We WILL be back!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Fortress of Solitude for a family gathering (about 6 adults and 4 kids) and it was PERFECT! The pictures don't do it justice. The house feels spacious and well put together. There are essentially 3 master (larger) bedrooms and three additional bedroom ideal for kids and we all had more than enough space. The "great room" is stocked with tons of toys for various ages, a kids' table, a comfy sectional and TV and a pool table. The kitchen is great for those who love to cook--and the layout made it easy for more than one person to cook/prep. Then there is a separate lounging room/area off the kitchen and a very large dining room. The wood floors are gorgeous, and the upstairs bathrooms (especially the deep tubs and walk in showers) were amazing. The roof deck was perfect for late night star gazing and relaxing. Beautiful pool and separate deck with large table. We loved that we felt very secluded yet were only about 15 minutes from the adorable town of New Paltz, filled with parks, restaurants, and cute shops. We saw countless butterflies and deer on the property too. Also, Nancy was very helpful and attentive. We lost power at the house and she immediately assisted with the power company and house alarm company. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better stay and will definitely be back!

Private and Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great 1-week getaway. The house is a beauty and pictures don't do it a justice. All rooms are well furnished, the kitchen is professionally equipped, the playroom is to die for, spacious, light with tons of toys. There is enough shadow and seating at the pool area. The backyard covered with fresh grass is large and a pleasure for kids to run around. Location wise - Minnewaska park, New Paltz, grocery shops, 24/7 butcher store (Applestone), a few cute restaurants all within 5-20 min drive - can't go wrong. Nancy is a wonderful host, she always promptly responded and addressed all our inquiries. We would love to come back. Thank you!

My family and I recently enjoyed a week at this fabulous country home. The wooded and secluded country setting is gorgeous and the house itself is just wonderful with everything you could possibly need and plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The décor is lovely and the photos really don't do it justice. The furnishings and artwork are great, but the house is also very comfortable and liveable. The kids LOVED the huge playroom and of course the pool, the adults loved cooking together and hanging out in the large gourmet kitchen - we even had a master chef contest one night! We ate most of our meals at the large table on the back deck where we enjoyed the cool evenings. Nancy is so helpful and great to deal with and this is one of our most memorable family vacations. Would recommend to anyone!
