No stay is complete without visiting the medieval Cinque Port of Rye, home to many beautifully preserved historic buildings from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times including the medieval church and the Ypres Tower (castle). Rye's enchanting cobbled streets are lined with historic inns and restaurants as well as a host of unusual shops selling antiques, collectables, local produce and works by the town’s many resident artists and potters. The town plays host to many events throughout the year including the famous Rye Bay Scallop festival in February, the Arts Festival every September
Whatever the weather, it is difficult not to be seduced by the beguiling beauty of nearby Romney Marshes, almost as mysterious and lonely as they were in the 17th Century when smugglers swapped local wool for brandy from France. The 100-square-mile marsh encompasses tiny villages, ancient, secluded churches and The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.
The historic seaside town of Hastings is only a few miles away, with its ancient churches, tiny narrow streets and the ruins of a castle built by William the Conqueror. When the weather is inclement there is The Blue Reef Aquarium and fantastic smugglers caves to visit. For history buffs, why not visit the site that on 14th October 1066 an army of invading Normans defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings. There you can stand on the very spot where King Harold was slain and the course of our history changed forever. You can explore the ruins of the atmospheric abbey, built by William the Conquer to commemorate the thousands who died. It is a great day out for the whole family, with a major new exhibition that uses film, computer technology and interactive exhibits to bring to life this bloodiest of conflicts.

Property was big enough for 2 adults and 3 teenagers. Very pleased with generous welcome pack from local producers.
Had everything you could need for the week although we felt the property could have been cleaner.
The bedding was lovely and clean but white towels instead of blue would have been better for us.
We booked the Lighthouse to celebrate our annual "3 generations" holiday event. It was just perfect sizeable, clean rooms, nice decoration and a beautiful location! The sea was very nearby and Rye was a real surprise. Thank you Richard and Sophie for the warm welcome and we look forward to staying in the Lighthouse again!

We stayed here with 3 kids. The house is very cosy, is well equiped and feels easily like your own house within minutes. 3 bedrooms suited us fine.
