About David Sharpe
We have owned a beach house on Holden Beach since 1994.

Why David Sharpe chose Holden Beach
Our first was on the Ocean. We wanted to be able to have access to the beach and the Intracostal Waterway. We use our boat to go to the local On-the-water-restaurants on Holden Beach, Ocean Isle, Long Beach, and Southport. With the convenience of our location, we don't have any less access to the beach.

Festive Family Fun
We had a multi generational family beach vacation with two sides of the family this year. Not sure how it would go. This house gave us plenty of space to spread out - large bedrooms, balconies, dock on the canal and, of course, the beach at the end of the street. The owner, David, was very prompt in replying to my questions about the house. Especially nice was the large, accessible garage for all the beach toys, chairs and kayak we brought. Also, kudos to David for keeping some of the kitchen cupboards empty for our food. Most rentals fill all available cabinets with too much “stuff” no one will really use. We were afraid that the beach would be overly crowded since the nearest beach access was the public pier. But no worries there. It was calm, quiet and not crowded. Unpack and enjoy!
Thank you. Although we put a lot of effort into it, We know the house is not "perfect", but it is perfect for exactly what you used it for. Thank you for sharing your persective and a great review.
very nice and convenient for fishing if you have a boat
Was not able to check into house until after 4:00 as house has not been cleaned.
Did not like that there was a bedroom downstairs, very creepy. I did not use the washer/dryer as the garage smelled like fish. And did not like that there was a camera at the front and back doors, felt like we were being watched. Like the owner knew when we were coming and going. Other than the downstairs in the basement house was fine.
The little “bedroom” as you enter the house in pictures is kind of deceiving as it’s not really a bedroom and not a good place for children to sleep with being right at the front door.
Felt like the outside could have been a little more cleaned up as there was this terrible smell as you walked up the steps and there were pieces of stuff under the steps.
The location was good.
Over all okay.
The old cameras are inoperable and when they did work (about 5 years ago ) were there for winter non-rental season. I’ll remove them next weekend. There is a RING camera which is set up for notifications on transition days only. The reason is because some people- like this tenant- like to sneak in early and/or sneak in a dog; which is unfair to other tenants who pay the pet fee, and, to my cleaning company. The tenant did both and was notified to pay the dog fee and did - but wanted to negotiate the fee. Tenant also brought two dogs- which is also against the rules. The tenant was pre- notified via message that due to July 4th crowds the cleaner was going to be late. The Tenant arrived @ 1:42 pm. I called her and told her of dilemma. She tried to defend her early arrival. My cleaner was finished and left at 3:38. The tenant came back after 4:00 pm. IF there are no tenants before or after a scheduled arrival, I have, if approved, allowed early arrivals or late departure. All hotels and many rental units have cameras.
Very nice place , had our kids and gran kids down everyone had a great time.
It used to be that I talked with all prospective renters. But now - with “Book it Now” feature- I can actually never talk to a customer. However, this customer did call with a few questions about my revised listing description. I also got to talk with him after his stay. Really nice , friendly and straight forward . The cleaning person said he left the place as she would expect. He said he had a good time - that is what it’s all about.
Great vacation home
We had a great time at Holden. The house was nice and had everything you would need for cooking. The dock is great for paddle boarding from and just sitting by the water watching the crabs and fish jump and the boats go by. The bedrooms are good sized and not cramped at all. The location is great being right on the canal and only a 5 min walk to the beach. Good place for adults and kids.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Great location, great house, great hospitality.
Our family really enjoyed this house. First off, the location is quite different from what we've had on the past. The house is on a canal off the intercoastal waterway, with a floating dock. That allowed us canoeing, paddle boarding, and the kids a much gentler place to swim during the day, which was a welcome change of pace. We didn't bring a power boat, but you could easily put a twenty footer in at the dock. We didn't fish, but saw a lot jumping. On the other hand, the beach is an easy two minute walk, very doable even loaded with coolers and chairs, and you can enjoy the traditional beach fun that way. The pier and a convenience store is right there, and the seafood market is quite close -- we could ride the bike down there. Unlike a fully beach-front home, the wind is mild enough you can actually use the outdoor grill.
The house is well-appointed and clean. The decoration is nice and tasteful, and is clearly an individual's taste with some local (personal?) paintings, not at all the usual corporate interior decorator look. The owners were very hospitable; we did most of our own cooking, and the kitchen had everything we wanted, even a tea kettle, blender, and we found every item of cookware we needed. They left a lot of convenience items that normally drive you crazy with trips to the store on a vacation (saran wrap, tea bags, matches, etc.). We did our best to leave as much as we used and hope the tradition will continue. They left a nice set of items for fun: fishing gear, some chairs, a working bike, and even two surf boards.
Overall, a great house, and definitely a strong recommendation for vacation.
Thank you for acknowledging what we hoped to convey and enjoying it. ( I just found out on 7/24/19 that I have not seen reviews for over a year because I was usiing Internet explorer instead of Chrome)
The ocean, fishing pier, and restaurant are a short walk at the end of our street ,and, some shops and a convenience store is just another block away.
