We had a very good time the house was great and the lake was awesome
Fun on Spider Lake
We greatly enjoyed our stay Sept. 10-13 at Pohl's Paradise on Spider Lake. House is beautiful & had everything we needed. It's just a short drive into Traverse City, and a great place to base trips to Leelanau & Old Mission peninsulas & Sleeping Bear Dunes. Lake was very nice for kayaking.
Quiet and Private
This place is off the 'beaten path' but was not hard to find although Google Maps told me the house was on the opposite side of the street. There are a lot of steps leading down to the house and that was described in the listing, so that was not a surprise; however, it is a bit daunting carrying all your belonging out after the stay. The cottage is small and the AC didn't really reach the upstairs bedrooms. We appreciated how quiet it was though. The lake is nice but the water in the canal next to the house if murky with a lot of Lilly Pads. A great place for fishing, but not swimming.
This a beautiful piece of property on one of the marshy bays of Spider lake. We saw plenty of wildlife -blue heron, weasel, garter snake, frogs, and loons. Absolutely no swimming out front-too weedy and mucky. You have to take one of the two kayaks or row boat out to the island to swim.
This is the first time i’ve had to bring my own towels-beach& shower, TP, paper towels, soap, sugar, etc. also, be aware there is no washer/dryer.
There were lots of games and puzzles in the cottage. We also enjoyed a few dinners in Traverse City and a trip to Interlochen -all within 1/2 hour drive.
Lake side family time
The cottage is as pictured. It is a very well kept older cabin with nice views and right next to the lake.
Perfect home base for Traverse City area
The cottage was just as described. Tami and Mike did a great job anticipating what might be useful to include. They were very friendly and approachable. The location on Spider Lake is lovely.
Spider Lake is located in Grand Traverse County in Northwest Michigan. Some of the activities we would recommed are:
Brown Bridge Pond area with several miles of hiking - About 3 miles away from cottage with several parking areas.
Boardman River is locate 2-3 miles away with excellent trout fishing. Kayak and tubing rentals available.
Ranch Rudolph offers Horseback riding, ATV rentals, Snowmobile rentals and various other activities.
Downtown Traverse City - Please refer to Traverse City Visitors website for calendar of events - nearly guaranteed for an activity every weekend. Great restaurants and shopping.
Sleeping Bear Dunes - Terrific Day trip to see the most Beautiful place in America - Bring a camera and walking shoes.
State Theater in TC - Privately owned and operated by the community. Great atmosphere to see a movie.
Wine Tasting - Either Leelanau Peninsula or Old Mission Peninsula for great local wine tasting.
Casinos - Turtle Creek Casino on the East Side and Leelanau Sands Casino on the West Side.
