Visitor Center is on the way too in case you need suggestions. So much to do - anything from Glacier guided tours, Ziplining to hiking and Mt. Biking is all within your front doorstep to 30 to 45 minutes from the lakehouse. Denali is about 2 hours North of Big Lake.
For Golf enthusiasts - Settlers Bay is less than 30 minutes drive.
We built this house to have lakefront house to play and enjoy time together on the lake, on the trails - all within driving distance from Anchorage.
Scott Theis purchased this house in 2000
The house has a large front yard facing the lake for setting up volley ball, croquet, touch football or just sit around the fire or on the dock and watch the sunset.
Direct access to the Big Lake snowmachine trail system. Close to many unique Alaskan activities. Hatcher Pass and Independence Mine - 30 minutes; Glaicier Tours and Whitewater rafting on Matanuska River - 45 minutes; Talkeetna - 60 minutes; Denali hikes out of Talkeetna - 60 minutes.
This is definitely a Home Away from Home! My family and I truly enjoyed our stay. All of the equipment was in good working order and the property was stocked with the basic necessities which helped make life easy. We really enjoyed the water equipment and made great use of the lake. The fire pit was a nightly gathering point to come together and relax. We made great memories here! Should we return to this area, we would definitely rent this property again! Thanks Scott.
Our family of 5 stayed here in early August, 2016. We used this house for a few days and then got an RV and went South for a few more. We have used VRBO several times in the past. The pictures dont really capture how nice the property is. The house is on a large private lot on a beautiful lake and we used this location to go out and do our day trips. Dont skip Martin Buser sled dog tour right around the corner. The big bonus and what kept us having lots of fun while at the house were the toys. A pontoon boat, dock, canoe, two kayaks, stand up paddle boards, football, frisbee, etc were all there. The owners were friendly and helpful as well.
Lots of things to do nearby. Use tripadvisor for all those. Knik Glacier tour is not to be missed.
Not sure where to start as everything was perfect.
The house itself is open concept, large, and very comfortably furnished. We had more than plenty room for our family of 5. The kitchen is well equipped with pots, pans, cutlery etc. We came from the east coast, stocked up on groceries in Wasilla and never had to go shopping again. The house had absolutely everything we needed. All cleaning products were supplied. Washer & dryer were great to have. Sauna was a fabulous treat.
Outside there were two 4 seater dining sets with tables and chairs as well as an additional picnic table. The fire pit area was fabulous and we had a fire our last night using the available wood/kindling/paper from the wood sheds. Too bad it rained the other 4 nights.
The dock is large and getting the kayaks and paddleboards in the water was so simple. We were on the lake a lot because it was so quiet and warm. We saw only 5 other people on it during our entire stay. It takes about 40mins to kayak the perimeter. We did not use the pontoon boat as that would likely be above our skill level.
I wish we could return but our next Alaska vacation will be many years from now. In the meantime, anyone considering this house should book it without hesitancy. If it was available near our home, we would buy it immediately.
Thank you Scott & Lindy for sharing this magical place!!
We rented three houses during our two week stay in Alaska and this was our favorite. The views of the sunset are breathtaking. The house was clean and
had everything we could possibly want or need. We took the kayaks out in the quiet of the morning on the lake and enjoyed the "party boat" in the evening.
We visited Denali, ( a long drive), Palmer, Matanuska Glacier, (highly recommended). Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
Our stay here was great! We arrived at the Lake House after having cruised north from Vancouver. We found the house to be exactly as it had been described in the listing. It's location was perfect. Mantanuska Glacier, Talkeetna, Anchorage and Hatcher's Pass were all within a relatively short driving distance. The house was extremely clean and stocked with almost everything one could need. Scott and Lindy were extremely accommodating and helpful with any questions that we had. I highly recommend this rental property to anyone who is looking to experience Alaska.
This place had so much to do, fully stocked with Everything!!! My family enjoyed staying here and would love to go back for another weekend! Couldn't recommend a better place to stay!
This recreational home is an ideal location for those who want to do many things Alaska has to offer while having all the comforts of a home base: Historic Hatcher Pass hiking; Talkeetna flightseeing, fishing, zip lining; Denali National Park - all within driving distance. Within 5-miles of Iditarod Champion Martin Buser Happy Trails Kennels sled dog tours and many, many other attractions in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.
