The apartment, (55 square meter - 592 square feet ) is situated in the historical centre of Florence. It is located at the 4th floor (without elevator). From the balcony and the roof terrace you will enjoy a wonderful view over Florence and its monuments. From the living room five stairs take you on the lovely roof terrace with the view of Duomo, Campanile di Giotto, Battistero, San Lorenzo church (Medici Chapel) and the hills around Florence. The apartment has a living/dining room, a bedroom, a fully equiped kitchen, large enough for you to self-cater (seats 4) and a modern bathroom with shower. The apartment has parquet floors, air conditioning and heating, wi fi internet access, coffee, espresso, tea. There are many travel guides in the unit for easy reference. All main museums and monuments of Florence can be visited within walking distance. It has a lot of light and fresh air, and the views are spectacular. Even the shower has a window with a view! Most of the major attractions are easily reachable within walking distance (Duomo, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Galleria dell’Accademia). The stairs (73) are a bit of a challenge, but think of them as your private gym...

Giovanni Paxia purchased this apartment in 2010
First time I saw this property, I realized it was the perfect place for everybody wants to spend some days in Florence. The apartment is bright, calm and close to everything.
It's quite unique to find in Florence an apartment with a balcony and a terrace where you can enjoy a view of Cathedral S. Maria del Fiore, the bell tower of Giotto and the Baptystery and the church of San Lorenzo.
My husband and I stayed here for the weekend. It was a perfect location. The stairs did give us a good workout, but overall were not that bad. Giovanni was a perfect host! He really made renting from him a pleasant and easy experience. The apartment itself had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the balcony and the roof terrace. We would recommend to anyone to stay here and if we ever visit Florence again we will stay here.
We arrived as planned, and Mr. Paxia was there to welcome us. Although I protested, he carried one of our bags up the stairs, I carried the other. The apartment was clean, attractive and well stocked. It is comfortable, but not fancy. Mr. Paxia gave us a complete run down on how everything in the apartment works, showed us where to shop, gave us some restaurant business cards and also showed their location on a map he left for us; all were close by. We later noticed that Rick Steves had mentioned several of these restaurants, and we wound up going to one of them three times. Mr. Paxia left a cell phone in case we needed to contact him.
The positives of the apartment include: 1. location on a pedestrian-only street, so it was quiet. The Duomo bells go off several times a day, but with the windows closed weren't a problem for us. Often I would open the windows sometimes to hear them 2. A great food market is about a half block away with any food item from eggs, wine and milk, to gourmet sweets, meats, cheese, etc, and the prices were reasonable. You can shop for all your food needs here, you really don't have to go anywhere else, unless you want to eat at a restaurant 3. About four(?) long blocks to the main train station, with buses next to it, so you don't need a car (a car is a liability if you stay in this apartment since you can't drive in the center of Florence in general; we took the train to Cinque Terra for two days) 4. Half a block to the C1 minibus stop which will take you to multiple galleries, and you can also transfer to other city buses 5. location is fantastic about a block away from the Duomo and close to many other key sites by foot 6. Apartment has a balcony with table which looks over the street and a terrace for enjoying a broader view 6. apartment has nice views of Duomo, San Lorenzo, etc.
If we return to Florence, we would stay here again; the price is reasonable, and I recommend it. The only downside is its location on the top floor, as is mentioned, I believe, in the Homeaway writeup. I'm 73, and the stairs weren't a problem for us, but you should be aware of this.
We really enjoyed Giovanni's apartment in Florence. The city is extremely walkable and his location is an easy jaunt from many great spots. There are great views from the rooftop terrace. Giovanni was a terrific host and we appreciated the care he put into our stay with great directions and additional resources on the local area.
This apartment is perfect for a couple of people who don't mind steps. It's a great workout!
My sister and I stayed here for 10 days, and loved it! For the price, you won't find better in Florence.
The location is fantastic, right in the middle of everything, just a few steps from the Duomo and not more than a 15 minute walk to any attraction in Florence. A lot of great eating and shopping in the neighborhood, and Giovanni had a lot of recommendations ready to read when we got there. The balconies were wonderful, and the views from them outstanding. The washing machine definitely came in handy, too!
I would caution against too much luggage, as the streets are cobblestone and not easily navigated with suitcases, not to mention 74 steps up to the apartment. Once you are up there, it is definitely worth the effort!
The gelato place at the bottom of the stairs, right outside the door, is not the friendliest or the best, and I would avoid. The one on the corner is great, though!
There's a little supermarket just a few doors down, so getting things to cook at home is very convenient, saves a few euro. Being Italy, there is also wine at the supermarket, as well as several wine shops in the street.
Shop around for leather goods. There is a lot of it, so you can be picky.
Between the host, the location, the amenities and the atmosphere, I would definitely stay here again! My sister and I had a great time!
I cannot say enough great things about this apartment. It was by far the most incredible place you can stay in Florence for the price. My husband and I stayed for four nights and were so sad to leave.
Let's start with the location - It's right near the big attractions in Florence, about a 5-10 minute walk away from the train station and down the street from incredible restaurants. Try Giovanni's restaurant recommendations.... they are some of the best meals we ate in Italy.
Working with Giovanni was so easy as he was fast in his responses and met us when we arrived with the keys. He was lovely!
The best part of the apartment are the TWO rooftop balconies. Every night we would buy a bottle of wine and be serenaded by the music below and sit on the rooftop overlooking the dome. You do not want to miss that! It was incredible.
While there are a lot of stairs to get to the apartment it's worth it. It also helps you burn off the endless amounts of pasta and gelato you will consume.
Again, this apartment is perfect and we loved it! Thank you for having us and we cannot wait to come back.
This apartment was perfectly located, light and comfortable, and Giovanni provided many extra considerate touches that made this a wonderful place to stay. Yes, there are 73 steps to climb, but the listing is quite clear on that point. We found the kitchen well stocked and more than adequate to cook many a good dinner. In addition to what I would consider the "basic" amenities (soap, paper towels, linens, etc), Giovanni also included thoughtful items such as a stock of Nespresso capsules for the Nespresso machine and coffee for the Moka, a nightlight for the bathroom, plug-in mosquito repellent (in case you are a mosquito magnet like me), umbrellas and lots of information about Florence. And a very nice bottle of wine! He was available for questions and always responded promptly. While you are smack in the heart of Florence's tourist attractions, the apartment is high enough that you do not hear the street noise (unless you are outside on the lovely terrace). We especially enjoyed being so close to the Mercato Centrale, where you could buy provisions for dinner, have a glass of wine, a pizza, a gelato or even a Sicilian cannolo! We highly recommend this apartment, and give it, the location, and Giovanni's customer service all five stars.
If you like cooking, you will find everything you need in Mercato Centrale di San Lorenzo (central market), the main market for food, 100 mt from home. The market was built in the second half of the XIX century, at the time when Florence was capital of the nation. The market offers meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, cheese of the best qualities at cheap prices. It is the traditional market used by people living in the town. It is open only in the morning till two pm. If you prefer to do the shopping in a self-service minimarket, there are two great supermarkets right near by.
Close to the front door (to the left leaving the building) there is one of the most equipped cd-DVD shops in town (Alberti). And a TIM shop (mobile phone service).
Many restaurants and pizzerias are available nearby.
