Shirley Johnson purchased this Townhouse in 2016
Why Shirley Johnson chose Rapid City
This is a great newer property. Very modern and well built. It's in a great neighborhood - surrounding you in the Black Hills beauty. Even though you are in a townhome adjacent to a neighbor - you still have the place to yourself. Centrally located to Mount Rushmore, the northern hills, southern hills and all the amazing things in Rapid City and the Black Hills area has to offer. Great location in the city - close to many amenities.
What makes this Townhouse unique

The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, a coffee maker and toaster. There are full size appliances; fridge, stove and dishwasher. There is a washer and dryer available for your use as well. Awesome view of the Black Hills! Off-street parking spots plus plenty of on-street parking. Air conditioning, cable TV, wi-fi, washer/dryer, garage access and more.

Would stay again
Great little find in rapid city. Loved it. King sized bed might need updating...quite noisy and a little uncomfortable. Owners very helpful with responses and we found everything up to date. Would return!!! Definitely recommend.
Townhouse is centrally located to everything you need within Rapid City and surrounding areas.
The townhouse is comfortable, clean and situated in a pretty little neighborhood. It is centrally located to Mt. Rushmore, the Black Hills, the Badlands, Custer, the Mammoth site etc. etc. If you have time, spend a few hours in beautiful Canyon Lake Park just a half a mile away. Thoroughly enjoyed our time spent in Rapid City and all tourist attractions in South Dakota.
The property had a great location and was well furnished. Enjoyed our stay in Rapid City very much.
The home was what we expected, clean and well furnished. Location was great with easy access to everything. If I had to point out any negatives, it could have a few more pots / pans especially a larger frying pan or 2. Would highly recommend,. owner was very quick to respond to any of our questions and it was a smooth transaction.
home away from home
This property worked out perfectly for us. We were there 4 nights, 4 of us and it was like home away from home. Sooooo much Better than two hotel rooms would have been. It was comfortable and quiet and well equipped with all we needed. Would stay there again.
Perfect - and I dont use that term loosely!
We stumbled on to Shirley's rental just days before coming to Rapid from California to spend a week with my dear old dad during his 89th birthday. We have often stayed in a well-known motel with queen suite but we frankly like more space. We are versed at using these sites on our other travels. The problem is that when we come to Rapid City, if we look for a place in the Black Hills (which we love dearly) it is too far to be practical on a daily basis to visit dad.
So we were cautiously optimistic when we came across this rental located on the western edge of Rapid City, in a quiet neighborhood which, abutts the Black Hills. How do I describe this home? It is modern in the sense that it is not an older dwelling but relatively new, at least by feel and design.. It had three bedrooms - perfect for us and our two boys. Washer/dryer, garage. Very, very well-maintained and clean. Amenities thoughtfully provided for many needs (spices, laundry detergent, etc. Tall slanted overhead ceiling in main area, which is an open kitchen/living room configuration, In short it reminded us of an very nice 4 star hotel suite - only on steroids!
Shirley, although we never met her, was (and Im certain is) a sweetheart. Couldn't have asked her to be more accommodating and flexible on short notice. We are only sad that we didn't get to say thank you personally, but hoping they appreciated our leaving the place "almost" as nice and clean as we found it. We did the laundry, folded the towels, all dishes washed and cleaned. We were raised to respect other's homes and properties as much or more than our own. We left the sheets, if only so they wouldn't get washed twice, but stripped the beds etc.
We hope to make this our "home away from home" every time we are in the area, which is at least three times a year. Many thanks again to Shirley and her daughter.
P.S. I would be negligent if I didn't mention the flock of wild turkeys that went strolling through the backyard the first morning we awoke, not to mention the two large buck whitetail deer, complete with nice, developing summer racks that were standing in the side yard when we drove up one night and even posed for photos in the headlights before apparently becoming bored of the attention and ambling off back into the hills, which but up against the houses on this far side of west Rapid. Cool or what? No place we've ever been has the amount of wildlife on a daily basis that we see around the hills.
There are many activities and things to do around the area.
The house is located in a nice neighborhood surrounded with a taste of the Black Hills.
Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State park, The Needles Highway, The Badlands are always popular destination spots for our travelers. Spearfish, Sturgis & Deadwood are great northern hills destinations. A drive through Vanocker Canyon and Spearfish Canyon are amazing anytime of year. If you drive Spearfish Canyon - don't forget to plan breakfast, lunch or dinner at Cheyenne Crossing - they have amazing breakfast and Indian Tacos to die for! Stop at the Stadium in Spearfish for great steak tips and Leone's for homemade ice cream!
Legends Steakhouse and Deadwood Social Club in Deadwood are personal favorites if you want a nice dinner and a night out gambling. End your night at the Old Style (what locals call it) or the Saloon Number Ten - dancing the night away. If you have a sweet tooth, Chubby Chipmunk Hand-Dipped Chocolates are amazing.
If you want to see views of the Black Hills but don't have the time or energy for a long hike - take a drive to the top of Terry Peak. You follow Highways 85 & 14A South out of Lead to Terry Peak Summit Road - it will take you to an elevation of 7,100 feet and to make it even more spectacular - climb to the top of the lookout tower for some breathtaking views and snapshots. Other favorite hikes for amazing scenery, Harney Peak, Sunday Gulch Trail, Crow Peak (near Spearfish), Flume Trail, Horsethief Trail, Bear Butte State Park, Cathedral Spires, Lover's Leap, and Centennial Trail. If you are into biking or hiking - the Mickelson Trail is always a great choice. The marked trail winds for miles and miles throughout the Black Hills. Find a map
We also recommend, Sylvan Lake - for hiking and fishing, Hill City, Keystone for some quaint towns and shops. Don't miss the taffy shop in Keystone or Turtle Town (chocolatier) in Hill City. Black Hills Burger & Bun in Custer for some amazing burgers on your way back from your tour of Custer State Park.
If you want to tour some local wineries - you have your choice of wineries and tasting rooms all over the area - Hill City is the hot spot with Prairie Berry Winery, Naked Winery, Twisted Pin and Stone Faces Winery. Prairie Berry also has a brewery out front called Miner Brewing Company. Prairie Berry is also a great place for lunch. Yum! In the Sturgis area (going toward Vanocker Canyon) is another local winery that grows their own grapes (yes in South Dakota), called Belle Joli Winery. They also have AMAZING food, and a great place for Sunday Brunch.
Locally here in Rapid City - some great restaurants include Tally's Silver Spoon, Que Pasa, Firehouse Brewing, Delmonico Grill, Longhorn Steakhouse, Fuji Steakhouse, Botticellis, Minvervas, The Freight House, Paddy O'Neills, Murphys Pub, Kathmandu, (kol), and Sickies Garage Burgers, and Independent Ale house for pizza to name a few. Ice cream - hands down - Armadillos or Silver Lining Creamery.
Visit Main Street Square and the do the President's walk downtown with the statues.
There's so much to do and see around the area...couldn't possibly list it all here.
