About Cathy Cox-Brakefield
I am a native of Blue Ridge and grew up on this farm. I love Blue Ridge and all it has to offer in the modern era, but want people to remember the days when it was a small farming community, largely isolated from the cities and home to mountain natives like my family, who grew their own food and made many of the necessities of life.
Cathy Cox-Brakefield purchased this Farmhouse in 1950
Why Cathy Cox-Brakefield chose Blue Ridge
My parents fell in love with this property and bought it in 1950. They alternated living in town in the home my mother owned and in the existing small house on the property until the early sixties when they began building the current house, one board at a time, while my dad worked as a carpenter and painter with a construction crew. We moved in late 1963 and my parents lived and worked here until my dad's death in 2001. My mother continued to share the property with my own family until her death in 2011. I wanted to preserve the beautiful features of my childhood home and the memories I hold of my parents and my childhood. We began to restore the property, refinishing the beautiful hand-laid hardwoods and cleaning the knotty pine paneling, as well as tiling the bathtub surround and installing new ceiling fan fixtures throughout. I have placed some of my parents artifacts and belongings throughout the home. The farm property has been restored to its former glory by my hardworking husband, who grows vegetables in the garden just as my parents did. The barn was built by my mother and her father shortly after the purchase of the property in order to accommodate the cattle that my parents raised and milked by hand. We have replaced the barn roof, making it an inviting place to play and explore. Our profile picture is from the gazebo at the intersection of our two creeks, where you can relax in the swing with a book and a glass of wine, or snooze while the creek tumbles over the rocks in the background. We hope to share our family's mountain story with you and your family.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
We never gave a thought to tearing down this beautiful product of my parent's love for this property and did not want to turn it into a shabby long term rental. Cox Farm is an alternative to the cookie cutter log cabins that proliferate the area but do not express the true character of Fannin County.

Definitely an old and charming farmhouse. Totally as advertised, no frills, but charming and quaint. Cathy and Gary couldn’t have been more pleasant ... and their dog Missy wore herself and my kids out chasing the ball over and over ... not to mention the kids getting obsessed with feeding the goats! Surprised my kids don’t make me get goats now. 😄 Anyway, easy location, easy check in and out, easy going owners that couldn’t have been nicer.
Thank you so much for this great review. We hope your charming family will visit us again.
Blue Ridge Farmhouse vaca
We were very happy to stay in this home. It is a family home that shows the original style of the 1950's. Growing up on a farm myself, there were many reminders of my family home.
The location was perfect for us as we are anticipating moving to Blue Ridge area at some point. We were able to drive around the whole area and then come back to this house for relaxing evenings.
The farm grounds are awesome with some shy goats and also a beautiful gazebo on a creek convergence on the property.
The entire Blue Ridge area is great and we were able to dine at several different restaurants during the week.
We really enjoyed our stay.
Thank you so much for this great review that explains who we are. Looking forward to being your neighbors!
Very nice and cozy
Thank you. Could hardly tell you were here.
We are family of five and enjoyed greatly staying in Blue Ridge.
It is an old farm house but has everything we needed to enjoy our time. It is very close to everything including downtown Blue Ridge and Blue Ridge Lake. We hope to come back next year to the same rental property.
Thank you so much. We look forward to having you back.
Great house, close to town
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cox Famiky Farmhouse. The hosts are very friendly and give you access to most of the property. We spent plenty of time playing in the creek and catching fireflies. But it was also nice to be close to BlueRidge and all that it has to offer. Highly recommend this location.
Thank you so much. We loved watching your family enjoy our beautiful farm. Would love to have you back anytime.
The farmhouse is a very quaint family home full of character. Well located to historic downtown blue ridge, lake blue ridge and the taccoa river. Cathy was gracious hostess. Peaceful and pleasant place to stay. Recommended
Just 5 minutes from thriving downtown Blue Ridge. 2 minutes from the marina on beautiful Lake Blue Ridge. The Toccoa River, with tubing or kayaking, and the Ocoee River, famous for the 1996 Olympic whitewater sporting events, are just a short drive away. Hiking trails and outdoor activities abound. Our own property provides fourteen acres of creeks, woods, and fields to explore. Come see why we love to call this place home!
