About Amy Thompson
We bought our lake house as a retreat for us and our family and friends, many of whom live in nearby Boston, New York and Hartford. It's a great gathering spot and we made many lasting memories in this special spot.
Amy Thompson purchased this House in 2012
Why Amy Thompson chose North Egremont
We've always loved vacationing in the Berkshires, with its cultural attractions, natural beauty and varied recreational activities.
What makes this House unique
The best parts: the lake just steps from the door, lunch on the screened in porch, beautiful views, the family of ducklings gliding by early in the morning, snowy walks on bright winter mornings.

The lake house is just as beautiful in November as in August.
We enjoyed our stay at this house.
The house is very well laid out and furnished. The screen porch was a wonderful place for meals. The weather was pretty hot during the week we were there, but the house remained comfortable.
It has a lovely situation on Prospect Lake with wooded lots on each side for privacy. The lake was quite high during our stay, so there was no beach. We found Lake Mansfield in Great Barrington to be the nice sandy beach we were looking for.
We had a 9 month old baby with us, and we were very pleased to find not only a port-a-crib but a playpen. Our baby had never been in a playpen, and she was delighted with it. Otherwise we would have been spending way too much time keeping her safe from the stairway.
The reason I am giving this nice property 4 stars instead of 5 is that the well water had an unpleasant odor. The owner did address this and after a treatment of water softener it was much better. Amy, the owner, was very available and responsive to our calls.
I would recommend this property to families.
I'm so sorry that Linda's family had an unpleasant experience with our well water. Occasionally, it's not for everyone's taste! And I did offer to reimburse her family members for purchasing drinking water. As of Sept 11, our well water experts are scheduled to come to the house to help better remedy the situation. Stay tuned!
Quiet lakefront house accessible to Berkshire activities
This is a comfortable lakeside home. Some amenities we appreciated include: canoe, screened in porch with dining table, washer and dryer, basic supplies provided. The house offers a quiet respite in the country, away from the crowds of Lenox and Stockbridge but still easily accessible.
Amy is a responsible and responsive host. She was in regular communication with us to ensure that we had a good vacation.
We really enjoyed having Nancy, Mark and their friends at the lake house. They stayed in touch with us, were flexible when our workperson needed to stop by to check on a couple of things and, most importantly, they seemed to have a great time taking advantage of the beautiful Berkshires! They even texted me from their symphony date at Tanglewood to report a fantastic concert experience and beautiful weather.
Peaceful Lakefront Experience
Had a great stay. House right on lake. Did alkt of fly fushing off the private floating deck. Nice firepit. Spacious home. Easy to canoe and swim right there. Great hiking and of course loved Tanglewood. Host excellent customer service. Will return.
Great week in the Berkshires
Lovely charming house with all the comforts of home plus a lake! Amy, out host was great! Hope to return next summer
It was a pleasure to have Susan and her family stay at our place. They took full advantage of all our amenities, including even our bicycles, and were in touch throughout their stay to let us know how things were going. They were quite familiar with all the Berkshires has to offer so we are honored that they want to return with more family members next summer!
Great lakeside cottage
We had a great week at this very nice clean lakeside cottage. The house was just the right size for us and the screen porch was perfect. We had all of our meals there! It was great to be so close to Great Barrington which was full of restaurants, a movie theater, and our new favorite, SoCo ice cream!
Our one wish was that the house had a longer dock and a floating dock anchored out further in the lake. Closer to the shore, the lake is very weedy. Our kids are definitely lake swimmers but had to go pretty far out in the water to get away from the weeds. There may be restrictions on what can be built in the lake that prevented the owners from doing this? We did take advantage one day of the campground across the lake that had a great waterslide and swimming area - plus pool tables and kayaks for renting!
That said, we used the canoe at the house daily, the lake was quiet and peaceful - and we made friends with a mother duck and her 6 babies who came up and rested on the front lawn under the bushes every day. :-) It was a wonderful place to stay and the owners were very helpful.
Gwynne and her family were excellent guests. Ours is a small lake and the lake association is indeed very careful about the environmental impact of weed control. We will definitely look into making it possible to float our dock further out into the water. We hope they will come back to visit again.
Charming lakefront house is near all that Berkshire County has to offer. Five miles from Great Barrington and 25 minutes away from the Boston Symphony’s summer home at Tanglewood. Just a few minutes from the area's two premier ski slopes, Butternut and Catamount. The Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge or Shakespeare and Company in Lenox are both nearby as are Catamount and Butternut Ski Resorts. The Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, MASS MOCA, Great Barrington’s Mahaiwe Theatre, outlet shopping and four-star dining are additional attractions.
