About Kim Rose
I work as a consultant in the sustainability field, a job that takes me abroad often. I love my life overseas, but always look forward to returning to my home in Portland. For me, life is about packing as much diverse experience in as possible while doing good for the world.
Why Kim Rose chose Steuben
This is my little slice of heaven where I go to get away from the stress of a hectic career. I've lovingly renovated the chalet to be modern and comfortable. I hope it can be your slice of heaven as well!
What makes this House unique
Feel the breeze and take in the ocean views of Dyer Bay from the living room, patio, and hammock. Watch out for my pernicious red squirrel, catch sight of Grover the Seal, and be surprised by the sudden appearance of eagles overhead.

Away from it all
This place is so beautiful and so quiet... I had a wonderful time. The view of the ocean from the house and patio is incredible. The house is well equipped with all you need to cook some local seafood. Location is great as it is driving distance to lots of ocean destinations.
A few days in Downeast Heaven!
This Downeast chalet was one of the sweetest places I've stayed! The place it self is cozy and warm and the ocean is a few feet away. We saw eagles, cormorants, ducks, a loon and even a seal pop up from time to time! The sunrise and sunset were breathtaking, and the local lobster and seafood is amazing! Lots of great hikes in the area with stunning views, and the locals are lots of fun too. There's lots we didn't get to do, so we will be back soon! Thanks so much Kim!
Tranquil but remote.
The home was spotlessly clean. Very comfortable and well appointed. Great hearing the sounds of the lobster fishermen setting their traps. Be sure to pack a jacket as there was always a breeze coming off the water. If you have time take a ‘day’ trip to Campobello Island to FDR’s summer home. In addition to great seafood we found two awesome restaurants in Ellsworth. One is Thai and the other Indian. Yes there are things to see in the area but the solitude allows time to catch up on reading. Enjoy.
Beautiful House and Location
We stayed here for a week with two kids and loved the house. The house is a beautiful mid century modern cedar cottage that has been loving restored. It had everything we needed, and an especially well appointed kitchen for a vacation house. The site is private with a beautiful wooded yard looking over Dyer Bay, and steps down to the rocky shore where you can watch the sunset. The location is great if you want to visit Acadia, but not be overrun with tourists and traffic. Is a short drive from the less touristy Schoodic peninsula part of Acadia and an easy drive or ferry ride to bar Harbor and the rest of the park. Kim provided great day trip and food suggestions for the stay.
My husband and I had the perfect getaway at Kim's chalet on the ocean. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The house is stylish and modern with so many lovely, artistic touches. Such a treat to return to after a day spent spent hiking or kayaking. And the view is fabulous. We loved hanging out in front on the lawn, or down on the rocks to take in the ever-changing water view. The host provided us a great list of places to visit, and local tips that made our stay extra special. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Peaceful, great location, beautiful
We were looking for a coastal Maine retreat from city life, and this was our perfect getaway! It's a beautiful, modern chalet overlooking the ocean where lobsterman are pulling their daily catch. We spent a couple days exploring the bay and islands on our kayaks. We hiked in Schoodic (a part of Acadia National Park), and also Rogue Bluffs (stunning!). The rest of the time we spent mostly out in front of the cottage just enjoying the peaceful setting. We saw plenty of wildlife, schools of fish, and even a seal! When inside, we enjoyed perusing Kim's record collection and enjoying a warm fire on chilly nights (bring your own firewood!).
Nearby takeout and a seafood market fulfilled our seafood needs. The bed was super comfortable, making for a great night's sleep. And we loved waking up to that view!
Kim was a very responsive host and offered lots of tips on places to experience. We loved that we managed to enjoy a quintessential Maine vacation outside of the tourist mayhem. Thanks for making our stay so special!
Lots of hiking with gorgeous views, boating opportunities abound (bring your kayaks!), some of the biggest, freshest lobsters you've ever had. Wineries, lakes, picnic spots, and more! I give my guests my own personal map of the area with the inside scoop on places to see and things to do. I also provide a number of itineraries.
