Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

3 bed detached villa, sleeps 6, peaceful location, yet close to village centre

This lovely detached 3 bedroomed villa, 'Yesil Vadi', is located in the village of Uzumlu, Turkey. It has a private pool, beautiful garden and spectacular mountain views. Take a 5 minute stroll to the centre of the village, with its restaurants and shops. A 15-20 minute drive takes you to the sea, marina and lively market town of Fethiye, the beach of Calis with its sunsets, or beyond to the world famous beach of Oludeniz.. The spacious living area is open-plan with well-equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge. There is also a separate TV room and a shower room. A marble staircase leads to the first floor, which has 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom, all with air conditioning, a family bathroom and an en-suite bathroom. 2 Of the bedrooms open out onto a large balcony, with spectacular views. There are great views from all windows. Outside, relax on the shady covered terrace, with dining furniture, overlooking the garden and the valley. Plenty of room to soak up the sun by the private pool. End a relaxing day with a BBQ at sunset. Yesil Vadi has wifi.

Uzumlu : Uzumlu village square is a five minute stroll away from the villa. There you will find restaurants, shops, bakery and an internet cafe - and people who are always friendly and helpful. This is also where you can get a dolmus (minibus) to Fethiye. Uzumlu market is on Fridays for local grown produce and various other interesting things. In Uzumlu, villagers still follow traditional ways and you can watch the local women weaving as you pass their houses. Children will love seeing goats and chickens as they wander around the village. Uzumlu means 'with grapes' and you can try the local wine. There are regular dolmus (minibuses) to Fethiye and from there to other places. If you require, we can arrange car hire or transfers to or from Dalaman airport.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia area: There is a fish market at Fethiye, where you can choose your own fish, fresh from the sea, and the restaurant of your choice will cook it for you. There are numerous boat trips, including the 12 island trip, snorkelling and scuba diving. From Fethiye you can get a day trip to the Greek island of Rhodes. Fethiye has a great market on Tuesdays.

Calis beach is a lively resort with a long promenade lined with restaurants, shops and bars.

At Oludeniz you can watch the paragliders as they descend from Babadag mountain to land on the beach, or hire a paddle boat or canoe. From Oludeniz you can get a boat trip to Butterfly Valley.

There are other beaches near Fethiye to explore, such as Katranci or Gunluklu.

Other places to visit: Kayakoy is an ancient village, abandoned by its Greek inhabitants in 1923, known as a ghost town with 2,000 ruined stone houses. Horse riding is nearby. It is possible to hike to the ancient Roman city of Kadyanda from Uzumlu, which has been partially excavated to reveal Roman baths, tombs, a stadium, theatre and water cisterns. Hikers interested in the 2000 year old Lycian Way can pick up this route near Fethiye. Gocek (30 mins drive) is an upmarket marina town in beautiful surroundings. At Saklikent Gorge, you can walk on platforms above the river, or sit at a restaurant and dangle your feet into the cool water. At Dalyan you can take a boat trip through the reeds to the famous Iztuzu beach, where loggerhead turtles nest and if you're lucky a loggerhead turtle will come up to your boat..

About Janet Hatherley

I am a teacher and I live with my husband in London. We have two grown up children. We still, as a family, like to escape city life for the peace and quiet of Uzumlu.

Janet Hatherley purchased this villa in 2010

Why Janet Hatherley chose Üzümlü

I spent a couple of years in Turkey teaching when I was young and over the last 30 years have always been drawn back. A few years ago, when looking on the Home and Away rental site, my daughter stumbled across the village of Uzumlu. To cut a long story short we all had our best holiday to date. We laughed it off when a waiter at a local restaurant said, “You’ll see, this time next year you’ll have your own house.” But it stuck in our minds and by the end of our two week holiday we’d discovered the perfect bit of land.

What makes this villa unique

The only traffic past our villa is the occasional goat or sheep. It is the most peaceful spot, with the sound of birds. While lazing in the swimming pool you can see panoramic views of mountains and trees all around.

In my experience of staying in other places in rural areas, you often can’t walk to a good selection of shops and restaurants and are reliant on a car. On the five minute walk to the village, the friendly locals will always give you a smile.

But don’t get me wrong, if it’s adventure, bustling markets, boat trips, beautiful beaches or ancient ruins you’re after, you’re only a short drive or minibus ride away. Every member of the family will be kept happy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at Janet’s villa from 17/6 – 1/7/16 we were a party pf 2 x couples. The villa is amazing beautiful views, spacious, bright and spotlessly clean. Only a few minutes walk from the villa to the village. If anyone is looking for a quiet relaxing holiday with all amenities within a spectacular villa then this is the place for you. I would highly recommend this villa. This is my second time to Uzumlu and once again was not disappointed.

Lovely villa in lovely village

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth visit to Yesil Vadi in Uzumlu. We love it and each time we visit, it immediately feels like home. As we are now so familiar with the villa and the village, we can immediately relax and enjoy our time there.

The villa has absolutely everything you could possibly need – and everything is very good quality.

Its great having the washing machine – means we can travel light (I still always take too much). The villa is bright and spacious both inside and out. And always spotless when we arrive. The provisions provided on arrival are very welcome too.

Senay comes every day to water the garden and tend to the pool. She is lovely to chat to and always makes sure everything is OK. There is plenty of space around the pool for sunbathing and the pool itself is very refreshing! It’s lovely once you’re in!

The village of Uzumlu itself is very pretty – it is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the villa. There is a central square with a mosque, a few local shops, barber, cafes and a couple of bars. The fresh bread from the baker is absolutely delicious. The cafes and restaurants serve great food – all very reasonably priced too. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming.

There is plenty to do in the area – lovely walks (the walk to Cadianda is quite hard, but definitely worth it), lots of historic sites, beaches nearby and larger towns to visit. There really is something for everyone.

We have already decided to go back again next year – highly recommended.

Perfect villa for relaxing holiday !

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing and chilled out holiday at this wonderful villa in an ideal location a short distance from the village of Uzumlu.

Everything you could possibly need for the perfect holiday is in the villa.

We stayed local for the first week and got out and about the second week after hiring a jeep which was great fun.

Locals are friendly and the few bar/restaurants are very welcoming too.

We would highly recommend this villa to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday in an idyllic setting.

Another perfect stay at Yesil Vadi

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to Uzumlu staying at the lovely Yesil Vadi and as soon as we arrive we feel so relaxed, it is very peaceful here and we are lucky to be able to watch the world go by in such wonderful surroundings.

The village has everything we need for a self catering holiday and our favourite places to eat this time were Lup Lup, Selale and the Winehouse.

We really enjoyed our lunches at Lup Lup overlooking the village square and then taking our time strolling back in the late afternoon sun and having a refreshing swim in the villa pool.

Many thanks to our neighbours Senay and Gursel for looking after us and the villa, we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Thank you Janet for all your help throughout our booking from start to finish, and we would really recommend Yesil Vadi to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday.

Lovely relaxing holiday in beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth visit to Yesil Vadi - it almost feels like it's our own home (if only)! We've also stayed at two other villas in Uzumlu - this one is by far the nicest.

The villa is always spotlessly clean on arrival with a much appreciated welcome pack. It has everything you need - both inside and out. The location is great - gorgeous scenery and only 10 minutes walk to the village. Loads of interesting places to explore in the area too - we've discovered somewhere new each time we've been.

The village itself is quite traditional with a few bars/restaurants/cafes, grocery shops, brilliant bakers, barber etc. A few new places opened this year including a lovely coffee and cake cafe.

We love seeing the Turkish people going about their daily business - the men plying backgammon a

A perfect villa in a beautiful village

  • 5 of 5

Our holiday was fantastic and the villa was a major factor in this. I would like to thank Janet for thinking of everything to help make the stay in her villa stress free. The villa is delightful and is extremely well equipped with everything from beach towels, a good selection of DVDs and books. Copies of directions to supermarkets and beaches etc were provided as well as details of places to visit. Who needs the internet with this kind of attention to detail? Of course my teenage daughters felt they couldn't cope without a daily fix of WiFi. The village was safe and friendly and the girls were happy to walk the short distance to a local bar on their own where they could happily sit with their phones catching up with their friends. The gardens and the pool were discreetly maintained by a couple living nearby. (I can't remember theirs names). When we had trouble with our hire car G tunred up, took the car away and put the battery on charge. When this failed to sort the problem he got on the phone to the hire car company for us to explain the problem. He then arranged to meet the mechanic in the village to bring him to the villa. I don't know if this was all in a days work but it seems to me that he went beyond the call of duty. He then took off on his moped without giving us a chance to thank him properly.

I would highly recommend this villa . I cannot find a bad word to say about it. Perfect.

Uzumlu is a pretty, unspoilt village with cobbled streets, Ottoman stone cottages and a lovely main square with a weekly market. Yesil Vadi (Green Valley) Villa is in a peaceful setting yet only a short stroll from the main square with its shops and restaurants. The valley is known for its mushrooms, cherry trees, pine trees and grapevines (uzum means grape, uzumlu, place of the grape). Uzumlu Mushroom Festival in April celebrates the local morel mushroom, with lots to eat, music and folk dancing. The mountains and foothills around the village are great for walking, with ancient Lycian and Roman remains at Cadianda. The village is only 15 - 20 minutes from the beach at Calis and the lively town of Fethiye. Oludeniz, which has been called the most beautiful beach in the Mediterranean, is 35 minutes away. The start of the 2000 year old, 509 km Lycian Way is close to Fethiye. Louis de Berniers was inspired by the abandoned Greek village near Fethiye to write 'Birds without Wings'. Daniel Craig emerged from the water at Calis beach in summer 2012, for the latest James Bond film. There are many organised outdoor activities such as paragliding and rafting and the famous Saklikent Gorge is close by. Uzumlu is less than an hour from Dalaman airport. Airport transfers and car hire can be arranged.
