Three week stay in September
We have just returned from a three week holiday in this beautiful part of Italy. The accommodation is about 2-3 miles away from the centre of Lucca. We chose not to hire a car and managed well by using the bus into Lucca and trains to other parts of Tuscany (trains are cheap and reliable). There is a 15-20 minute walk to the bus stop but this did not bother us. There is a good local shop selling basic provisions at the bus stop and also a bar/cafe that we frequently used for a drink after the bus journey.
The accommodation is an upstairs apartment with two double/twin bedrooms. It was very clean and spacious with large rooms and a kitchen/dining/sitting area with lovely views over the rural countryside. Furnishings were in keeping with a typical rural Tuscan property. Kitchen and cooking facilities had everything we required and after a long day sightseeing cooked meals most evenings. The reason we did not give the property 5 stars was the designated outside area for sitting out, eating etc could have been more appealing and better presented but still had lovely views of the surrounding vineyards and trees which did provide shade when the weather was hot (don’t forget your mosquito repellent). However this did not deter us from a very enjoyable holiday in this tranquil location. Our hosts, Giulia and her daughter Lavinia (and her fiancé Andrea), were lovely people, spoke good english and were more than happy to help in any way they could. On arrival, Lavinia picked us up from the bus station and Giulia took us the train station when we left and they took us twice to the supermarket. Overall a very enjoyable holiday.
Great location, very peaceful
The house was large and very clean. The location is beautiful, you can go for long walks along the grapevines. Lucca is a beautiful city to visit. We were hoping to be on an active olive oil and wine farm.
But that must been a long time ago.
The house is furnished very simple, no luxury here. Matter of fact, it was hard to find enough silverware and dishes for our family of 5. Cooking is not easy in this house. It is better to go out to eat. Not much equipment.
The hosts are very nice.
Amazing Tuscany Experience
The Cypresses apartment was truly an authentic Tuscan experience. The home was a beautiful old farmhouse which was clean, spacious and comfortable. The property was quiet and secluded with breathtaking views in every direction. Just a short distance from Lucca city center, it was perfect for our stay. As artists, we found this to be a painter's paradise! Our hosts were amazing and exceeded our expectations. Giulia and her daughters were very kind and helpful on many occasions and made us feel very welcome. We had a most memorable experience at the Cypresses and highly recommend it to anyone who wants an authentic Tuscan experience! Can't wait to return!
A peaceful get away
Lovely and quiet place with a true Tuscan feeling. The ladies (and neighbors) were extremely helpful and nice to our family. My children enjoyed playing outside. The location was great for seeing the Tuscan sights such as Florence, Pisa, Lucca, volterra, the beach, Cinque Terre. It was nice to come back to a quiet place after a day in the city.
Kristine and her family are very polite, quiet and kind. Their children played in the garden and this gave us happiness. We hope to see them again and we suggest them as perfect guests They can speak a good English.
My husband and I spent a most enjoyable month this spring at "The Cypresses" outside of Lucca. The property is amazing, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees--so quiet and secluded, yet only a couple of km from the city. We loved getting to know Lucca and its surroundings from our "home base." Our hostesses were so very gracious -- they offered us helpful advice about many local restaurants and attractions "off the tourist path." We appreciated having a full kitchen (with a view!) and laundry facilities for our month-long stay. Another plus is the property's proximity to the Fondazione Campus in Monte San Quirico, which offers courses in language study -- we arranged for private Italian lessons during our visit. <http://laureaturismo.campuslucca.it/en/servizi/la-sede/>
I would recommend The Cypresses for anyone with a sense of adventure who wants to experience the real Tuscany. Una buono vacanza!
We want to say thank you to Donna and John for choosing our holiday home for their stay and also for the beautiful feedback they left for us.
We were really happy to accomodate them too.
They are very nice and polite. Donna and John have a great spirit of adventure and a sense of humor. They are sporty and love cycling. It was a pleasant surprise for us to know that they followed the Italian language course at the University near us. They love to explore places outside of the usual tourist itineraries to discover the true "genius loci "of the countries they visit.
Every owner will certainly feel comfortable with them.
We look forward to hosting them again.
very pleasant and affordable flat near Lucca
Spent two nights at this pleasant flat about ten minutes from downtown Lucca on the grounds of a very private estate. Two lovely young sisters greeted me upon arrival. Directions were good, rooms were large and apartment exceeded my expectations. Its not luxury, but for the price a GREAT deal. Attractive grounds (I went for a nice walk around the property one morning - very special area). Wifi was a little fussy. Nice gift of Olive oil from estate upon my arrival. I will return!
It'been a pleasure for us to host people like them, who know foodstuffs, good food, genuine things and they really know how to appreciate it. Michael was really lovely with us, kindly and accurately.
Thank you very much! We are waiting for you again!
