About Rob Hartmann
I'm been on and off the island my whole life. I spent every holiday and summer in St. Croix growing up. My parents retired there and I named this condo in honor of my Mom. I call it Roberta's Rest. Looking at old maps I discovered there is an Estate Hartmann on the South Shore. So I guess we were meant to be part of St. Croix!
Rob Hartmann purchased this Condo in 1968
Why Rob Hartmann chose Estate La Grande Princess
My parents were the first owners in the Cruzan Princesse Condominium. Before it was built, my Dad said to the developer "I will buy this unit out front if the building sticks out further than all the rest so I can have a 180 degree, unobstructed view of the ocean." The developer complied and so we have the best unit in the condo. My Dad was a Navy Captain and he loved the feeling he got in the condo of being on a ship! He could look out at the ocean from almost anyplace in the apartment. There are still some Nautical touches to be found.
What makes this Condo unique
You can't get any closer to the ocean and the view is spectacular. You can see boats sailing out to Buck Island every day and when you have a full moon, it is breathtaking! See the photos! St. Croix is part of United States Virgin Islands so all U.S. laws and currency apply! Your U.S. Driver's License is all you need to travel here and to drive a car. (FYI, you have to be 23 on the island in order to rent a car!).

Overall disappointing stay. No A/C. Wifi was very spotty. Lots of construction on the property. I was uncomfortable with workers being in and out of the condo while I was gone during the day. The owner however was very nice and the condo itself was exactly like the pictures. The washers and dryers are coin operated and are downstairs. They really are showing their age.
Not only does the condo look exactly like its photos, as this guest admits, but the description clearly states: "Enjoy the Trade Winds and ceiling fans in every room. No Air Conditioning." So no false advertising here! Located only 12 feet from the water, the trade winds blow almost continuously, and certainly during the last two weeks in October during this stay. Remember: this is a Tropical Paradise! Also, I checked with the manager who says he entered the condo twice to shut windows as the unit was being painted on the outside. In each case, no one was home to disturb. As someone on the island to help with construction, I'm sorry this guest didn't understand that we are still making renovations AND improvements following two deadly Cat5 hurricanes the previous year. In the friendly spirit of St. Croix, I wish him well on his next visit to American Paradise!
A Beautiful stay at Roberta's Rest
The photos and description of condo and surroundings are spot on. The owner , Rob, and manger are helpful and responsive to questions. It is a great vacation area if you love the Caribbean waters, tropical breezes, colorful flowers and birds, Crucian cuisine(try the callaloo), and Cruzan Rum!
Great location right on the ocean!
This is a lovely, clean, and well-located condo in St. Croix. We especially enjoyed the balcony overlooking the ocean where we spent a lot of time. The interior is comfortable and the kitchen is very well-stocked thus making meal prep a breeze. The beach is quite nice and accessible. The complex exterior is very attractive with a convenient swimming pool for the residents. We would definitely stay here again.

Sail to Buck Island National Park. Contact Captain Heinz Punzenberger at 340.718.3161 to book your trip. Have a great day! Take lunch with you. They store it in a cool place on the boat. Pringles are good as they are salty and stay fresh in their special container. Drinks available on board. Also, take some bread to feed the fishes (I take it in small plastic bags and release it slowly when under water).
Explore Downtown Christiansted & Fort. Christiansted is a beautiful Danish town and harbor. All the brick was carried over on ships for ballast and then used to build the town. Ships filled up with rum and molasses to go home. Must visit the Governor's Palace if open. The ballroom is spectacular! Remember, Alexander Hamilton lived on St. Croix and his mother is buried here. Visit Fort Christiansvaern where she was imprisoned for a while and make sure you see her cell and history. Shop and have lunch at Rum Runners on the Boardwalk. Visit Sonya’s on Company Street for beautiful jewelry including her famous “hook” bracelet. Across the street visit Jan Mitchell Glass Studio for beautiful glass creations. Great for gifts.
Estate Whim Museum & Great House. Located on Centerline Rd going toward Fredericksted. This is an opportunity to see how plantation owners lived on St. Croix. Includes a working windmill. There are ruins of over 150 windmills and steam chimneys all over the island!
Scuba Diving & Swimming at Davis Bay. One of the most beautiful bays in the Caribbean. Beaches are very popular with the young crowd, especially on the weekend. Dive "Off the Wall" of the Puerto Rican trench and see Black Coral. There are shops there to rent diving equipment if you're certified and several restaurants and bars. Sadly, the Marriott Carambola Beach Resort & Spa 340.778.3800 is closed following the hurricanes.
