About Andrew Paxton

Margaret & I met while students in Edinburgh more than 30 years ago. We have always said we will return here one day after living and working in the South of England, Belgium and most recently in Virginia, USA. We want others share to our place and fall in love with Scotland and Edinburgh.

Andrew Paxton purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Andrew Paxton chose Edinburgh

We loved the central location in the West End of the city, easy walking distance to everything Edinburgh has to offer and access to the wonderful public transport. The finish of the listed building and apartment is beautiful - completed late 2012.

What makes this apartment unique

We aim to provide the best Scottish Hospitality Edinburgh can offer. We want it to be a home from home (although we know it is much smaller than American standards) with everything you need to make your stay very comfortable. Check our reviews to see what we provide!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic week in Edinburgh at this lovely apartment. Every comfort, fresh clean and modern. Great location for EdFest! Close enough to walk to all major venues, yet quiet at night (bedrooms at back which helps). Thanks Margaret and Karen for making us so welcome and well-informed! Can't wait to return

Modern, well equipped, great location. Walking distance to all major attractions. Public transit, including transit to and from airport directly outside the front door.

Quiet. Spacious.

Everything that you would have expected is there for you. Great host. You will not be disappointed.

We would love to return.

Well appointed and well located!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is spacious, clean, well stocked and well located within walking distance of everything in this incredible city. While the street in front is busy, mostly during the day, the apartment is very quiet and peaceful. I would stay again without question. And I can barely wait to return!

Owner's Response: We appreciate the positive comments on the apartment and location. The apartment is located on Shandwick Place, which gives excellent public transport access (including direct access to/from the airport) and walking distance to the central sites. While the road is busy, the apartment has secondary double glazing to the living room at the front and the bedrooms are to the rear. Pleased the guests found the apartment to be very quiet and peaceful. For us, the most positive endorsement is when a guest says they would stay again - we achieved that here. We would love to have you back to stay when next in Edinburgh.

GREAT location to sites and pubs

  • 5 of 5

We ( 2 couples) stayed in the apt August 31st - September 3rd, 2016. My communications with the owner, Andrew, we returned promptly and his property manager, Karen, was delightful. The location could not have been better, the bus and tram from airport drop you off in front of the building. Karen, gave us some provisions to get us started. Everything else you might need can be found right next door at the market. There is also one across the street, Starbucks is just down the block.

The unit really is in easy walking distance to the castle and other sites, as well as MANY great pubs.

The unit had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable and the unit was clean. Nice that we each had our our full bathrooms.

I would highly recommend this unit for your stay in Edinburgh.

Owner's Response: Pleased we gave good service and that the location could not have been better. Having the tram and airport bus stop so close to the apartment makes it easy. Comfortable beds and a clean apartment is important for any stay. Always happy to be recommended.

Very nice apartment and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time in Edinburgh for the Military Tatoo and Fringe Festival. The apartment was great, very clean, spacious, centrally located and within walking distance of the major attractions. There are two grocery stores near the apartment and many pubs and restaurants nearby. The castle, gardens, and royal mile were all within a 15-20 minute walk. One note, there is a flight of stairs to the flat so be aware that you will need to take your luggage up the stairs.

We were met by Karen the property manager who explained everything, answered all our questions, and brought us some breakfast goodies. Andrew Paxton was very easy to work with, answered all our questions and gave us advice on transportation and things to do in the area.

The only issue we had was that the dryer did not work. We did our laundry the last day as we were on a 4 day tour and would need clean clothes. Unfortunately it was Sunday and Karen could not get anyone out to look at it so we ended up going to a laundromat. We were very fortunate that the woman running the laundromat took our plight to heart and even though she was over loaded with laundry to finish that day, she gave us a dryer to dry our clothes. We found that everyone in Scotland was exceptionally helpful and kind.

Owner's Response: This review highlights all the great things about the apartment so we were disappointed that the guest had a problem with the dryer. The dryer is combined with the washer as there is no space for two separate units. The dryer can only take small loads and takes a long time to dry. We alert all our guests to this. We will be replacing the combined washer/dryer with a new washer only as the combined units do not meet guest expectations.

Nothing but good things to say from the day I made reservations, pre arrival plans, to the day we arrived. The location was excellent and the flat was phenomenal. I would not hesitate to go back and highly recommend it to anyone.
