About Andrew Paxton

Margaret & I met while students in Edinburgh more than 30 years ago. We have always said we will return here one day after living and working in the South of England, Belgium and most recently in Virginia, USA. We want others to share our place and fall in love with Scotland and Edinburgh.

Andrew Paxton purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Andrew Paxton chose Edinburgh

We loved the central location in the West End of the city, easy walking distance to everything Edinburgh has to offer and access to the wonderful public transport. The finish of the listed building and apartment is beautiful - completed late 2012.

What makes this apartment unique

We aim to provide the best Scottish Hospitality Edinburgh can offer. We want it to be a home from home (although we know it is much smaller than American standards) with everything you need to make your stay very comfortable. Check our many reviews to see what we provide and what other guests thought!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic week in Edinburgh at this lovely apartment. Every comfort, fresh clean and modern. Great location for EdFest! Close enough to walk to all major venues, yet quiet at night (bedrooms at back which helps). Thanks Margaret and Karen for making us so welcome and well-informed! Can't wait to return

Great location, very clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The location was fantastic, very convenient. The flat was spotless. The mattress was extra-firm, but comfortable. The flat was quiet--the bedrooms are located away from the street. The management is very organized--there's a notebook containing information about the area, information about the building, and even instruction manuals for the appliances. We used the DVD player in the flat to watch one of the movies available to guests (the 1961 movie set in Edinburgh, Greyfriars Bobby) and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Owner's Response: A central location is so important for a city break. The review has highlighted everything we try to do right for our guests. Beds are always a personal preference, but pleased that it was comfortable. The bedrooms are located on the courtyard/garden side which is why they are so quiet. In Edinburgh many bedrooms are on the street side.

Beautiful apartment in central location.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 5 nights in March. Apartment is clean, modern and spacious and with 2 bathrooms for 4 people, the space never felt cramped.

Location is right next to the Western end of Princes Street, with a large number of bars, restaurants and shops all around. Transport links are also excellent, with the city trams running right past the apartment from the airport. Despite this, there was minimial noise when inside the property.

Andrew's communication was excellent throughout and I would recommend his rental property to anyone staying in Edinburgh.

Beautiful apartment, equipped with love

  • 5 of 5

Our impression on the apartment ( a family of 4)? in 1 word: Wow. in 2 words: Wow, superb!. Beautiful apartment, in the center but quite. God is in the small details? this apartment is equipped with every single details needed, in order to enjoy the stay, incl. a wonderful file, with tons of suggestions about what to do around (thank u!), box games for the children, a blanket for picnic, binoculars?.Near door to the building, there is a Supermarket. I wish every apartment for tourist rental, would be like this one.

Fabulous flat for a family of 4 over the Christmas/Hogmanay Celebration

  • 5 of 5

This is a great flat--wonderful location, quiet and well-designed for a family of 4 or two couples. Our family (parents and 2 grown children) stayed for 10 days and the flat was perfect--it never felt too small. It was within walking distance of all of the sites in Edinburgh(shy of the airport roundtrip, we walked absolutely everywhere in Edinburgh) and a stone's throw from 2 small groceries (and within walking distance of a larger Marks and Spencer and a Waitrose).; the flat was immaculate and well-equipped for eating in(large refrigerator, ample dishware and full size dishwasher); and the double glazing of the front windows insured a very quiet and enjoyable stay indoors. Having butter, jam, milk and a few other bits in the refrigerator was an added bonus. We did utilize the washer throughout our stay and made good use of the drying rack provided, and it worked brilliantly (for those who are unused to a combined washer/dryer). The property manager met us upon arrival and familiarized us with the amenities and was available, if needed. We have travelled a lot throughout the world and have high standards of comfort, cleanliness and convenience and this flat ticked all of those boxes. In addition, restaurants and pubs were great! This flat is a jewel and would happily return when in Edinburgh.

Owner's Response: Important in any city center rental is location, quietness, comfort, cleanliness and access to tourist sites and services. We are pleased that we met all these requirements for Marcia's family. It is great to be described as "a jewel" and we would love it if you would stay with us again when you return to Edinburgh.

We all enjoyed our stay at Shandwick Place.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was very roomy with updated kitchen and bathrooms. We appreciated being met by Karen and the information she provided. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious bread, shortbread and other amenities left for us. The location is close to everything and we would love to stay here again. The city of Edinburgh and Scotland were wonderful places to experience.

Owner's Response: The personal meet at the apartment is to handover the keys and to show how things work. It is also a good opportunity for guests to ask any questions about the apartment or Edinburgh. The welcome basket is a few items we provide to our guests to let them have a hot drink and something to eat on arrival.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend and really enjoyed our trip. Karen greeted us and was very friendly. The apartment was nice and up a short flight of stairs, but even with a stroller this wasn't an issue for us. Cleanliness was pretty good and there was a tiny bit of noise from the apartment above which I drowned out with white noise but didn't bother anyone else (I sleep very lightly). I never heard any noise from the street at all. The fridge also came stocked with a couple of staples which was very nice. The location of the apartment is wonderful. It's right next to the tram/bus stops and there's a grocery store literally beneath the apartment (no noise from this - only great convenience!). The cherry on top for me was the closeness of the Starbucks (a 1 minute walk from the apartment)! We walked to Edinburgh castle from the apartment and used public transport a couple of times - no cab was needed. Would definitely return for another stay!

Owner's Response: Location is so important for a city break. Despite being in a very central location, the guest confirmed that street noise is not a problem. There are several coffee shops nearby, not just Starbucks. Another guest indicating they would return - the best possible recommendation.
