'Junior One Bedroom' with peaceful view in great location
About Randi Bakken
Although we have lived here for over 3 years, coming home still feels like being on vacation! We look forward to sharing our cottage with you.
Randi Bakken purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Randi Bakken chose Novato
After living in suburban neighborhoods our whole lives, we never realized how amazing an undisturbed view into nature really is. One look out the window had us convinced we couldn't be anywhere else!
What makes this Cottage unique
The Boathouse has a definite away-from-it-all, country feel - but is still just a few minutes from downtown Novato, Safeway, Target, and Costco.

On the Edge of Urban & Rural
Staying at the boat house (which is not a “house boat”) was like being lucky enough to stay at a friend’s cabin. I appreciated the deck and homey evidence of kids living next door. The wetland view captivated with its large sky. The deck invited. Elevated Highway 37 near-by became part of the soundscape before and after commute hours. I relied heavily on the light sensors when I returned after dark. I would stay here again.
Cute little cottage. If you’re a Raceway fan, this is the place you’ll want to stay at since it’s so close. We had a full day to explore and went to Sausalito where we rented electric bikes and rode through the city, great way to see everything. The only thing to mention is the wifi, we could not connect the first 1.5 days while there until I discovered the cellphone in the kitchen to hotspot wifi. I’d suggest putting this down as a note/instructions for future guests. If we’re coming down for racing weekend, we would stay here again.
Great rental, exactly as expected
This was the perfect small place for our family of 4. We normally stay in a hotel or motel but decided to try a rental instead and we will definitely be back to this one. Our kids loved playing outside, the house had everything we needed and it is super close to some great restaurants in Novato! I appreciated the coffee all ready for me to make and the cold water in the fridge. The kitchen seemed to have everything you would need to prepare your own meals, next time I plan to bring more food to make at the house instead of eating out so much. I would absolutely reccomend this property!
Nice boat house
Very well equipped. The cars on the bridge are quite loud. The way to the house is VERY steep, so not convenient with a lot of luggage.
Unique area with the water and marsh.
This boathouse was the perfect place to stay in the area. It is close to everything. We were there to watch our son race at the raceway, but saw so much more during our stay. It is close to everything! We loved coming back to the boathouse after each excursion. Randi and Jim were very helpful with information(like taking the ferry into the city- it was our best day!) The views were wonderful every morning and cocktails on the deck were great in the evening. We wanted for nothing during our stay. We would definitely stay again!
Not our cup of tea.
Beautiful view of the marshland surrounding Black Point, but we were disappointed by the lack of thoughtful things, like fresh towels, fresh bars of soap, and so on. Being so close to the water gave a musty odor to the place. The pole in the middle of an obviously manufactured home blocked viewing the TV from the bed.
We were so sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience in the Boathouse. As you can see from other reviews, offering a clean and well-stocked space is extremely important to us. We wish we had known of your concerns while you were here so we could remedy the situation and we will follow up with our cleaning team to better understand this anomaly. Please accept our cleaning fee refund as an apology for any shortcomings. Additionally, the Boathouse was originally a floating ark that was pulled on shore about 100 years ago. It has been rebuild at least once since then, but still retains much of its original inner structure. The layout may seem that of a manufactured home, but we can assure you, it is a unique piece of Bay Area history.

Halfway between San Francisco and wine country - it's the ideal location for a getaway! Take the ferry from Larkspur to San Francisco. Napa is 24 miles and Sonoma 16 miles. Sonoma Raceway is just 6 miles down the road. Excellent kayaking and boting with the launch 1/4 mile down the road. Easy access to Point Reyes.
